CSN worth $1 billion according to Forbes
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) In before Marty greg uses this to justify huge spending on Jimenez. Fixed. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) So Jerry gets all that income as well? There's no reason the Sox aren't huge spenders in this s*** division. Let's face it, there are some Jerry apologists on here. He got us a WS title so I like him for that and all the Bulls titles, but let's face it, he is not a "good" baseball owner. He's just not. I won't go into all the rea$ons but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Greg... QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) Did you just start following baseball this year? Saying that the Sox are not huge spenders in this division can only mean you haven't paid any attention to the last 10 seasons. ...seriously. Big spending doesn't automatically equal good spending.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:15 PM) http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=47746&a=1 You can track the Rodon start here, for those interested. Rodon picking it up now, 4 K's through first 8 outs. How is he 4-7? (Answer, like Chris Sale in 2013, despite the presence of Trea Turner). Tyler Kolek is the top power arm in the 2014 prep class. He's 6'5" or better, weighing in around 250. He's country strong. Literally. I'm not just saying that because he's a big guy, he lives and works on a cattle ranch. Looking at him, I don't know that he has spent a lot of time in the weight room. He's not a toned individual but he isn't fat. He could really take off with professional weight training and conditioning. He's a very good athlete that has even drawn interest from Texas A & M as a defensive end but he dropped football and basketball to concentrate on baseball. In a draft class filled with power arms, Kolek leads the pack. His fastball has hit triple digits in the past, occasionally touched 99 but sits in the 91-96 range. His 75-77 MPH curve ball isn't the most consistent pitch but it flashes plus. He throws a slider that is in the 80-83 range that has a sharper break. He has a low 80's change but hasn't had to use it at any point to dominate prep competition. Mechanically, he isn't perfect. He's big so there are a lot of moving parts but he maintains it well. He should be able to work out any minor issues he has easily in pro ball. His throws from a ¾ slot that gives him good downhill plane and makes his fastball heavy. Looking at him, it's easy to think of Jonathan Gray or Stephen Strasburg. Pitchers who have went to college and blossomed into arms that can throw 100 after being less polished in high school and adding velocity in college. Well, Kolek already has the elite velocity. He has very good command and solid pitchability. He can hit 100 and he can improve conditioning that may add more. The sky truly is the limit with Kolek. His velocity is new and it may regress in spring. I don't know but it will be fun to watch him progress and if I were a scouting director of one of the top 5 teams, I would watch him multiple times this spring. from minorleagueball.com ^ This reinforces the idea to me that it'd be insane for the White Sox to pass on one of the big three arms.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 7, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) The nightmare scenario for me is Rodon-Aiken going 1-2. I'd still be ok with Kolek and that fireball.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 7, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) How is this a nightmare scenario? Aiken is largely considered to be the best player in the draft class. Getting a player of his caliber at 3 would be fantastic. This. The nightmare scenario is taking someone other than Kolek/Aiken/Rodon

Gillaspie coming off of DL?
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Semien turns 24 in September. He's shown enough big-league skills to warrant being in the big leagues. I don't think my post is ridiculous either. Who would you rather have? Semien or DeAza? Semien or Kepp? Semien or Beckham. Yes I'd dump any one of those guys for a bag of balls to keep Semien. What do you guys think Beckham, Kepp and DeAza are worth?? Not much on the trade market, basically nothing. I mean, that goes without saying.

2014 Draft class
If you take a pitcher with TJ surgery over one of the big three pitchers, you're insane.
-
2014 Draft class
Yup, taking anyone but Kolek/Aiken/Rodon would be foolish beyond belief. No way Hoffman slides to the second round, but that'd be a good grab, even with injury.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 7, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) He can't be a placeholder unless he clears waivers. Even if you make him the last of the three to go, eventually he, Semien, and Danks all have to go down when Gillaspie, Eaton and Keppinger return. Unless you are going to send LGarcia down and make Beckham the backup shortstop. Of course, if they really like this guy I'm 100% behind cutting Keppinger loose. I'd be cool with that.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 6, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) The OS roster had him 74 OVR I think, I bumped that up to around 79-80 and upped his potential a bit. When I get it, I'll be making sure to bump him up like crazy.

QUOTE (danman31 @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:15 AM) Second Son won't last you as long. Even if you do both good and bad playthroughs it's 20 hours. It's great fun, but not earth shattering. A sports game will always last longer if that's what you're going for. Gonna get both eventually.
