CSN worth $1 billion according to Forbes
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Sorry Greg but you aren't allowed to suggest that the owner spend more money. You jump at the chance to mention how expensive everything is at the baseball game nowadays but in the same token, you want the owner to spend more $$ on players. There is quite a disconnect here.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I swear if Kolek is on the board and we pass for a next tier college arm, I will flip out. I dont' know what happens to Kolek but he is an extremely rare talent and we would be lucky to have a shot at drafting him (or really any of the top 3 guys to be frank). All of this.

Attendance
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:15 AM) Lets face it, the Sox have been run like a small market team and it reflects in the attendance figures,. How sad that a team in the 3rd largest market in the country had the second smallest crowd yesterday. Its amzing that in the long history of the team that they have never made the post season 2 years in a row. Party of the reason is lousy ownership down through the years from cheap Charles Comiskey to moneyless Bill Veeck to the current regime. Another big part of it is "America's Team" being in the same city.

sox need to trade alexei once out of contention
QUOTE (VAfan @ May 11, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) I think the odds of the Sox trading Ramirez this season are almost nil. 1. The Sox may be out of the AL Central race at some point, given the Tigers pitching, but they aren't likely to be out of the wildcard race at any point where a trade could still logically be made. 2. You don't trade a guy who's playing above his contract, where the Sox have no one who could come close to replacing his production, offensively OR defensively. To trade Ramirez, in other words, is to CREATE A HOLE, when the object of moves is to FILL HOLES. 3. Trading the Cuban would send a very bad message. The Sox have several Cubans now, and with Jose Contreras and El Duque, had several other Cubans recently. This is a plus for the team. We got Abreu for a bargain. Would he have signed with the Sox without that Cuban connection? Would Viciedo have signed? This would not be a good baseball move. The Sox aren't so poor that they need to unload Ramirez's contract. And it would be very bad for fan enthusiasm. It's really a HORRIBLE idea. 1. Fair 2. No...if you're rebuilding and said player is on the wrong side of 30, you trade him. Plus, the Sox have a lot of middle IF prospects. 3. No it wouldn't. They all know what happens when they sign the deals. If they traded him because he's Cuban, then yes, it'd send a bad message. The Cuban Connection existed long before Alexei. All that being said, I'd like to hold onto him because I think he'll age well.

2014 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ May 11, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) he was never going to be a second round pick. he probably wasnt going to be a third round pick either. this draft was loaded. A team isnt going to waste a 2/3 rd pick on a small, slow, and weak player who is projected to be a "specialist". I didn't say I agreed with the second round projection, I always saw him as a 4th rounder. But I remember a lot of projections having him in the 3rd and sometimes sneaking into the 2nd.

2014 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 11, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Well him coming out wasn't why he plummeted though. Dude had a 25 inch vertical and ran a 4.9 forty at the combine. His workout was awful. Hopefully he works his ass off and makes the Rams. It's going to be an uphill climb though. Oh I know he fell because of that, but has a combine alone ever dropped a projected 2nd/3rd with a number of accolades to fall completely out of the draft? (That's actually a legitimate question, not just saying it for effect)

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Lillian @ May 11, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) Now that Hoffman and Feede are probably out of the question, who among the top collegiate RHP would you rate as having the highest ceiling and highest floor? I assume that your list would include Nola and Beede. If chosen, wouldn't they both be "under slot" for the Sox? Athough not Aces, are either of them potential top of the rotation guys? You asking about right handed players is odd. Nola and Beede would likely having the ceiling of a #2. The three possible aces are Aiken, Kolek, and Rodon.

2014 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Real talk here. Can Sam actually play football? I don't give a s*** that he's gay. Good for him. Can he play? Or is this another spectacle? Obvious Mizzou bias here, but yes. He's undersized but has some real damn broad shoulders and a Joakim Noah motor. He was a projected 2nd/3rd rounder when the season ended, plummeted when he came out. I mean, unanimous All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year mean nothing to the NFL...but he played really f***ing good last year. I forgot Kroenke owns the Rams. He lives in Columbia and has Mizzou ties, so it makes sense that they'd take the chance.

2014 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Yeah I hate the ego pick. But I also think team needed some run stuffers. A lot of quicker pass rushing tackles. I hope he performs. Would like a late round pick on Mizzous Ldamian Washington. Wouldn't mind Gaines or Washington. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Sam tonight. One of my friends got a Snapchat from him yesterday saying he was excited to get drafted, so there's that.

Mizzou fan in me: Shocked that Ealy has fallen this far. Saw some mocks say the Bears would take him and try to move him to DT. ESPN does not like the pick.
