  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) The saving grace is that next years draft is supposed to be one of the weakest in memory. Good or bad has never had an impact for the Sox most of the time. The agent has a lot to do with it.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) Absolutely, as Cooper's magic has definitely come to an end. Danks/Floyd never improved from 2008. He doesn't seem to make an impact towards the end of the season. He might be more valuable in the farm system.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Anibal Sanchez has performed quite well recently for DET without any involvement from the Guillen clan on his behalf. Considering some of their starters not named Verlander have improved this season, would you take their coach over Cooper?
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) If PK was dealt/retired, we'd have quite a bit of money to spend next year. You assume a GM will take the salary.
  5. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) This sucks man.... On the bright side we were supposed to lose over 90 and battled. Changes have to be made, bullpen is ok gained some important experience, plus the emergence of Quintana gives hope 4 next season. Thanks guys for the cool season even If we choked the last 2 weeks. :gosox Didn't meet expectations:sucking at baseball met expectations:sucking at baseball down the stretch It's the same White Sox.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Be healthy soon, Dunnski Also, channel those .240 BA's of old But I prefer the 40 dingers over the .240 BA For some other team.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) I agree, Dunn is definitely the problem I would like to see Konerko's post ASB for his career. Of course everyone will make excuses for him saying he's hurt. He's hurt allright. He's hurt this clubs post season chances.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Oh look, Adam Dunn doesn't make the playoffs again This is a non factor when Kenny gets free agents unless they are waaaaaayy past their prime.
  9. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Baseball makes me sad right now. I feel like a pre 2012 Cub fan.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) He's 4-5 years away from being an everyday CFer (a pressing need for us) and this season was an anomaly or outlier statistically...in terms of his general offensive trends. I would be hugely hugely disappointed if we swapped Rios for Hunter. If it's Rios, Hunter and another CFer, fine. But then you're talking one of the more expensive outfields in the AL, and two of those guys in their early to mid 30's when our biggest area of depth is OF (Thompson, Mitchell, Walker and Hawkins) going forward. If that means DHing/1B with Viciedo, and Konerko's gone, or Dunn's gone, well, do what you have to do. If they're going to find a band-aid or stopgap solution, 3B and catcher are the places to look before OF is considered. He misplayed a ball playing RF that created an inside the park homerun against the A's. That would be another Kenny guy, choking with pressure against anybody, everybody, not facing the Whiter Sox.
  11. MB is the only active pitcher in baseball with 12 consecutive years of at least 10 wins (13), 30 starts (31) and 200 innings (202 2/3).
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) tired arm is a concern for sure, but the Sox have done a good job of keeping him and others as rested as possible. We need to make the playoffs first so we need our best on the mound for the remaining games I do worry about the future of Sale. It would be sad if somehow his career tanks because of this season.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) The Nationals are making a dumb decision and are letting Scott Boras run their team. There is no guarantee that Strasburg stays injury-free and they also could have rested him during the season to limit his innings. And how do you know your team will even make the playoffs again? The Tigers were such large favorites and look where they are at. Funny stuff happens in baseball, go for it while you have a chance. So do the Sox.
  14. There was something that I didn't hear Stone mention before and it was, "remain in baseball in some capacity". That could be in scouting, administration, ect. At one time he was content in being an announcer.
  15. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) I look at it this way. How many times does a team blow a 3 game lead with 11 left to play, find themselves down 2 games with 4 left to play, then come back and win/tie for division. It doesnt happen like that. Usually, once you blow it, you blow it. Historically, I would be shocked if you found more than 1 or 2 examples over 100+ years of baseball of the above mentioned situation. I also think the same way in games themselves. How many times does a baseball team comeback and win in the 9th after blowing a big lead in the 8th or Top of the 9th. How many times does an NFL team come back and win it on the last drive of the game late in 4th Quarter after surrendering the go ahead score on the previous drive by their opponent. How many times does an NBA team blow a 10+ point lead late in the 4th, go to OT, then come out and blow the game open again and win after blowing in regulation. Sure they happen, but more on the 1 out of 100 scale, so like I said, typically, once you blow it, you blow it. The Sox ran out of gas and had to rely on flawed rookie pitchers in season riding situations in ordered to stave off Detroit down the stretch. Just wasn't going to happen. It happens. I think the casual fan could see this coming since they are not as emotionally involved and history says post ASB choke.
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) @DanHayesCSN Robin Ventura said wants to return if #WhiteSox will have him. A.J. Pierzynski acknowledged Sunday could be his last home game at The Cell. Credible since the Sox don't have away games at the Cell. Is Ventura on the hot seat after 1 year of 3 on a contract? This is why tweets are the stupidest thing a journalist can do.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 07:54 PM) You don't participate in any discussion that you didn't start. When you join a site with the idea of increasing your own audience, I guess it breaches some sort of netiquette. Try this.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Jt doesn't say that in Marty s post. The beer vendor just laid out a scenerio to Marty. It might be Willie the crack dealer who fronts as a street musician.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) You sound like John Henry of the Red Sox ownership group here. Believe it or not, even if you were the richest season ticket holder in the White Sox demographics bank, it wouldn't make you any more or less qualified to analyze the team. Having or spending money doesn't need to be added as a qualifier to make your statements more valid or insightful. In fact, the opposite usually occurs when posters preface statements or comments by bragging about themselves...which has the effect, intentional or unintentional, of putting a lot of lot of people in attack mode. Did you really expect that people would genuflect in your direction as a result? You should know this board better by now. NO and HELL NO. There was nothing rational in his "inside info". None, Nicht, Zilch, Nada. It matches the thoughts too much of the OP which are often criticized. There is another site where mods do have inside info.
  20. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) ozzie's act hurt ticket sales. not to mention the 25 man roster. two big reason to say "adios!" Mental midget breakdowns since the 21st century has hurt ticket sales plus a zillion other things. Let's also not ignore the current manager is thinking about quitting. Why is this in the news?
  21. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:15 AM) You're not alone. I don't dislike AJ. He had a great year, but this team needs more OBP. Rios' contract is too big too move IMO, so he'll stay. Alexei clearly isn't going anywhere and I doubt the front office is going to pull the plug on Viciedo (and they shouldn't). That leaves Beckham and AJ as the last two OBP black holes in the lineup, and I don't think Beckham will be moved considering his defense is excellent and his bat has improved in September (the latter point is sample size bias and I personally wouldn't be opposed to moving him for the right player). That leaves AJ who's probably going to ask for, and this is me guessing here, around $10 million a year. I think that money could be better spent. AJ's play has been beyond terrible. I think he is throwing games.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I'd think people would want to say stuff in response to loudmouths like me. I don't know much but I like to spout my opinions and vent my frustrations. For the life of me, I can't figure out how the Sox just completely went in the tank. It's a completely different team than the first half. Mental midgets. This is 21 century White Sox baseball.
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) This scenario has less chance of happening than one of Ozzie's kids making a major league roster. Off season stupidity has started early. Look at the source. It doesn't make sense and very few of Marty's post ever make sense. He has no inside info.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) That's why he has his trip to Spain in the offseason, usually scheduled the first day after the end of the regular season since he doesn't actually expect his teams to qualify...but those for them to fight for 2nd place playoff 1% pool shares. I'd rather have Jerry Manuel or Jeff Torborg at the front of another youth movement than this nonsense. That's bad.
