QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) Which again means that if Q is not traded and the Sox plug a couple holes (CF and DH), they actually will have a somewhat respectable roster on opening day The White Sox roster in 2016 played downright horrific baseball for the last four and a half months of the season. That roster has since subtracted Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. So I'm not sure how it would work now where a simple "plug" in CF and DH would raise this now Sale-less and Eaton-less roster to anywhere remotely approaching "respectable".

Personally, it's just not in my DNA to ever turn on a White Sox game and somehow hope that they will lose. I don't care what the state of the team or organization is at that time I turn a game on. I want my team to win - always!

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) I don't want to see this team losing for years just to get a high draft choice. How many of those high draft choices turn out to be good? (Remember Jared Mitchell?) I've been told by numerous people that JR hates losing. It'll be curious to see how he reacts if this team keeps losing for years. I still think the team is going to be sold within 3 years. By that time this team won't have any big contracts on the books. It's a lot easier to sell a team if it doesn't have any big contracts to payout. Lol - probably the way he's learned to "react" and cope in 31 of his last 36 years as Lord of the Manor over there at 35th & Shields.

Interview with Nick Hostetler, Scouting Director
Thad Bosley replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Truly fantastic interview. So informative. I echo this sentiment. Very nice read! -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) When will they win in season? Check back next decade. At least we are fairly certain that will happen, given the kind of talent we are now accumulating. Under the approach of the past few seasons, to which you grabbed your pom poms and ran into the street to celebrate, god only knows when we would have stopped being "mired in mediocrity". Now we can at least see some light at the end of the tunnel. The same couldn't be said during the past several years.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Then why haven't they drawn more, and why would putting a better team out there make things better if the game didn't matter? The last time the Sox did a total rebuild was 1987 attendance 1987 1,208,060 1988 1,115,749 1989 1,045,951 Then they won 94 games and drew 2 million in 1990. Well, don't forget a key contributor to the low attendance figures in years '87-'89 was the infamous owner casting a pall over the ballpark with his threats to move the club to Florida and the blackmailing tactics he employed to secure his sweetheart lease deal from the state.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Thad Bosley replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:45 PM) I have said for months that if you went this direction you had to do it right, and build your position players. In the two biggest deals of the off season, they have probably came out even. It is a huge failure so far. Yes. Nothing spells failure more than when you acquire the #1 and #3 rated prospects in all of baseball. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) You've won me over. This really is the dumbest organization in baseball. Only the White Sox could lack position players, and then trade their best chips for pitching. We need to fire everyone up top and start over. Lol - your reaction to all of this is very surprising, given the efforts you've undergone in the past few years to put lipstick on the pigs that were the '13, '14, '15, and '16 seasons. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) Unless I live in Charlotte or Birmingham, nothing has changed. Why so glum, chum? The offseason isn't over yet. Heck, the winter meetings aren't over yet. It's quite possible, if not probable, that Hahn will convert Q into a similar haul but only of a positional player nature. Then we will have replenished both our pitching and our hitting deficits. Isn't that enough to turn your frown upside down? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) The irony here is that those are the exact sorts of players you will be watching this year. Maybe. But instead of watching such dread with no help in sight from the minor leagues, now we can enjoy the anticipation of this new and talented wave of young players arriving on the scene in the next year or so. We had no such hopes in these previous horrible years under the misguided direction the team went during that time. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Thad Bosley replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What I love about this trade is that when the dust settles, and we look up, and see that Sale and Q are no longer here, what we will see are the names Rodon, Fulmer, Giolito, Kopech, Lopez, Hansen, and Burdi. That is as promising a view on the pitching standpoint as any team in baseball, even after giving up the two elite guys. But we'll also see the future MVP in Moncada, whomever we get for Q (obviously presuming top positional prospects), Anderson, and Collins for positional players. How is THAT for your new core! No, this is encouraging, Ladies and Gentlemen. Very encouraging, indeed. Certainly more so than living through continued Rollins, Navarro, Jackson, and Latos signings. Good riddance to that nonsense! -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) It's just White Sox fan mentality. They have to find something wrong with their nice things. Sale is pretty flawless on the field, so when he calls that asshole KW an asshole, the guy is a total douchebag. The same thing happens with Eaton. There was some anonymous comment when he was traded here how it was addition by subtraction for AZ because he was cocky. Eaton addressed it right away, said he was surprised anyone felt like that, apologized if he offended anyone. Thought he got along with everyone OK, said he had to play with a chip on his shoulder and a cocky attitude to be successful. He is successful, and even though he has been here 3 years, no one plays harder, he now has attitude issues, you know from that report in AZ. He's a clubhouse cancer, no one can stand him even though they made him the player rep, and he's pretty certain to have a public meltdown if the Sox trade away most of their core but keep him. It's some of the goofiest stuff I have ever read. And I've read most of Caulfield's posts. Yeah, Dick, you're right. "White Sox fan mentality issues" - such a problem plaguing the organization. Would explain I guess how both Sale and Eaton have been practically been booed off the field every time they've stepped on it over the past few years, because our bad, 'ol fans have found some much "wrong with these nice things". I mean, what in the heck are you talking about! GMAFB already with this nonsense!

Your response to Sale getting traded to the Red Sox
Thad Bosley replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Glad to get Moncada and Kopech...but...but...but, for Chris Sale, at his age and with his contract, just thought we'd get a little bit more in return, especially since we didn't get anybody with MLB experience in the package. -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
Thad Bosley replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Boston wasn't offering Moncada. I thought they weren't offering players off the major league roster; hence, the wait until the offseason when those kinds of players could be available, but whatever. We have Moncada now, so hopefully a new and exciting era begins with him in the fold for years to come! -

Excited to have Moncada, but can't help but wonder why this trade couldn't have been made at the trade deadline this year? -
Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
Thad Bosley replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) That kinda seems like a thing. Now you wait for word from other interested clubs. They have us right where we want them! -
Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
Thad Bosley replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) We're talking about the White Sox. An organization whose last best home-grown position player has been Joe Crede. The organization is inept when it comes to developing hitters. Even Tim Anderson with how well he did last year has a massive issue with plate discipline that will more than likely cause him some headaches next year once teams figure out how to pitch to him. They need a can't miss position player. The fans know it and the front office knows it. I'm not saying Gioloto or Robles aren't great returns, but if the Shelby Miller's and Jeff Samardzija's of the world bring back Swanson and Russell, then it's not insane for the current asking price of Sale. We've never seen a pitcher of his caliber become available like this with his current contract. Exactly, and everyone knows it. It would be a public relations nightmare for the Sox to come back with a return on a trade for Chris Sale that paled in comparison to the returns for those two particular pitchers. So much so that I think it automatically disqualifies you from contention for obtaining the services of Mr. Sale is you continue to insist on this "untouchable" business. If Bregman, Turner, and any of the others are untouchable, then so is Chris Sale. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) I would think Sox fans would be happy with Rodon. He is pretty good. That's not my point. If the draft were held today again, I'd still take my chances with Rodon, and I think most baseball experts would as well. My point is that today, Sale is still obviously so much better than Rodon, which therefore makes it surprising that Turner would be considered untouchable in a trade for Sale. -
Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
Thad Bosley replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wonder if we misdrafted in 2014 when we selected Carlos Rodon over the now seemingly untouchable Trea Turner, who we are told cannot be included in a trade for perennial Cy Young finalist Chris Sale. Last I looked, Sale >>>> Rodon, at least at this point in time. -
Which prospect would you want the Sox to acquire and why?

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I'd go Benintendi, Bregman, Turner, Swanson, Urias +1 -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Clueless criticism of the Sox management does seem to be the only reason some post. Every move that is made (even to fill minor league needs) is met with snarky remarks. Thus week should be very interesting Lol - one could easily conclude that the unwavering support for a Sox management that has produced only one playoff appearance and one playoff win in the past 11 years is far more "clueless" than the criticism of that record has been.

For me, the notion of a potential Eaton trade probably only happens if the rumor of a Puig acquisition from the Dodgers comes to fruition. Or at least the likelihood of the trade greatly increases.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Theo getting ripped by Cubs fans? Not in this lifetime. Are you sure? Suppose the Cubbies go eleven years now and only manage to make it to the playoffs once, with only playoff win to show for it. What do you think the fans would say then?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) If Chris Sale led the Cubs to another title or 2, and the Sox didn't win one any time soon, do you really think Sox fans would be OK with that? They would be ripped in every way imaginable. Columnists who today think it would be dumb for the Sox to not consider trading with the Cubs, would absolutely forget they ever wrote that. Many, many fans would to. Helping the Cubs win doesn't help the White Sox at all. Probably true. Conversely, if Sale went to the Cubs and it didn't result in another title, but the elite talent acquired by the Sox led them to a title, then the Cubs fans wouldn't be ok with that either. They would rip Theo & Co. in every way imaginable. It cuts both ways.

Rumor: Obama will be part owner within 3 years
Thad Bosley replied to Carpe Diem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This one's a no-brainer. To go from complete irrelevance, which Jerry Reinsdorf and his ineffective management has collapsed the franchise into, to absolute relevance that an Obama ownership would surely provide, would arguably be the best thing to ever happen to our beleaguered ball club.
