2018-2019 Official NBA thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
That he does. He does one thing well and that's corner 3's. He's so limited offensively I couldn't believe he actual put the ball on the floor for a change. -

I am surprised at how much better he's has played the last month or so. He's not forcing a lot of bad shots or settling for 3's like he was doing before. Taking the ball to the hoop, taking good shots, making better passes and evening making plays for Robin in crunch time last night showed a lot of maturity in his game. -
You dont have to over explain players putting up big numbers on bad teams, we all know what that means, just as people are completely aware Lavine and Lauri aren't #1 options on a playoff team. Though I see a lot of growth and maturity in Lavine's game during the season as a scorer, he could potentially be a hell of a #2 option. You're trashing on WCJ and his production which is way off base. Despite being the 3rd or 4th option on the team and getting lost in the shuffle which is typical for a 19 year old big, especially one who had a coaching change 20 games into his career. He still had a good rookie season by many standards. It's not hard to see him turning out to be a more athletic version of Al Horford - an efficient scorer with 3 pt range, a good passer and better rebounder and shot blocker. Drafting 7th where the star potential players are gone, getting a strong asset to add to your core isn't the worst move. Sexton OTOH basically had free reign as an "accumulator" most of the year and he didn't look the part of being NBA ready. How much of the "potential" you saw was due to him being a primary scorer/handler on one of the worst offense? The one thing you're completely off is Sexton's potential. Even coming out of the draft he was a Eric Bledsoe comp, hardly a star by any means even if he turned out to be better than Bledsoe. He'd be a bad fit next to Lavine offense and defense wise, the risk and reward is not enough to forgo a quality prototypical modern day center like WCJ who's a great fit next to Lavine and Lauri. I do not want to derail the thread any further and since this is PHT talk, I will leave it as this.

You haven't been here long enough to judge on how people on this board perceive the Bulls and their management. Believe me, I have been very critical of how the team was run under GarPax regime in the past and even now. But your assessment of "WCJ" and how he fits in the modern NBA game is beyond ludicrous even the critical Bulls fans would disagree. I wouldn't go into debate on which advanced stat is a better measurement of player's impact, but whatever ESPN gives you do not do a good job of factoring the non-qualified players. To say WCJ is one of the worst centers in the NBA is a fallacy in itself. If you want to look at production across positions in the NBA, center is far from being the weakest position currently. Anyhow, if you want to look at a stat that looks at all statistical population, take a look at VORP ranking over here: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2019_advanced.html Guess who checked in at 148 of all NBA players, and who is at the very bottom, 511 out 511 NBA players who suited up this season?

This post is full of fallacies, false information, and a bunch of opinionated statements. Sorry pal, you may say you analyze basketball for a living, but no one is buying what you're selling.

I do not disagree that Lauri and Lavine aren't #1 option on PO team, I think everyone could see that. But Sexton has been garbage thus far and your reasoning that he'd been a better pick than WCJ because he isn't a modern day big is asinine. Sure a scorer in the mold of Sexton has potential to be an all star, but he'd been a terrible fit next to Lavine regardless, and Sexton has shown jackshit thus far to prove anyone wrong.

An athletic rim protector who could switch to cover smaller players and with range out to the 3 point line does not fit in today's NBA? Wow this guy is drunk. In fact, look at Ray Ray drunk.

2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox believe their window is starting next year then a 2nd round pick is small price to pay for a mid rotation veteran with how much uncertainty we have in our rotation. With the price that comp picks have been traded for, we could always acquire one later if we have the need to. -

Nope. He’s around the same velocity he’s been his whole career, never topped 90 MPH average. Groundball pitcher isn’t a bad idea at GRF to limit homeruns. If he could be had for #3 starter money on a 3 year deal, I wouldn’t mind going for it. -
Should the White Sox experiment with the "opener"?
thxfrthmmrs replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes, but Cooper has already shot down the idea. Because while other organization are trying to gain any advantage possible through advanced statistics, this organization still wants to focus on the fundamentals, like bunting, for example -
There is no hope for the Chicago White Sox (the thread?)
thxfrthmmrs replied to KiwiSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You could absolutely fault them for not signing either Harper or Machado, and I get that fans have every right to be upset for them not willing to spending reasonable amount for a big time free agent, I feel the same about this whole process. But the rest of your posts are just doom and gloom hot takes, if not overreactions. Time will tell what we have with the rest of this farm. If you do not have any hope of what we have in the farm and plus a top 3 pick coming up, then why bother even following this team or wasting time on a forum that won't change the team's outlook. -
KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap

You keep harping on this point but I do not think that that’s a criteria at all for Harper. It’s all about the money. -

Between boycotting games, social media criticisms, and if any fan wanna take out billboards like Bulls fans did to trash the FO, I think the message would be a lot more loud and clear and would actually impact their bottom line. The difference with the Bulls is many of their fans are Cubs fans who would buy season tickets and go to games even if the product is horrible, but Sox they do not have that type of luxury. -

Unfortunately JR is one of the most out of touch owners in sports. He never reacted to recent fan ciriticisms to either of his two organizations. I wish they could or would do anything to win back the trust of the fan base, but I would highly doubt it. -

It’s sad to think that 2 weeks ago it seemed like a 3 team race for Machado and Harper and by process of elimination we all thought Padres would get shut out. But when the dust is all settled it turns out it’s the Sox who are left holding their dick in their hands. That’s just the reality for Sox fans, we never get good things. -

We paid Alonso, Jay, Nova and McCann almost the same money as Bryce Harper. Don’t call us cheap, call us shit brains. -
Starting out this offseason if you would have told me the Sox would end up spending roughly the same money on Yonder Alonso, Jon Jay, Ivan Nova, and Jame McCann in 2019 as Bryce Harper, but end up not getting either of the two whales, I would have kicked you in the groin so hard.
-
We don't know the structure of the deal. It could be a front loaded deal with the last 3 years paying him like $5 mil each, which would still achieve the same luxury tax effect. Basically whatever Harper gives them from age 37-39 is gravy.
-
Crazy.. right?
-
Times have changed. Harper has a much stronger national media and social media following and is on the cover of The Show and face of numerous endorsements . He connects to the next generation more so than most players in MLB and is the type of player that puts fans, especially young fans, in seats. Your excuse is just because Sox never had a player that drew fans (I mean Moncada call up drew fans even when he is nowhere close to the star Harper is) so we should adopt a strategy that is proven to draw fans. That seems silly.
-
You are not factoring in the extra revenue will generate with Harper over 13 years. It’s the cost of James fucking McCann
-
When was the last time you saw young stars like Harper and Machado hit the open market? What did they sign for? Adjust it to 2019 money?
-
People keep posting this do not know the difference between NBA cap structure and MLB payroll. Regardless if the Bulls traded for OPJ then money would be spent somewhere, there are salary floors in NBA that need to be met. The floor is 90% of the cap, which the Bulls likely won't be have exceed by a huge margin.
