I wish this douche would just sign already. Seriously what a jerk. Don't even want him anymore, 1/20 and still not on a team... jerk.

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) @MibeltRodriguez Updated: I been told that the #WhiteSox are the favorite to sign OF Yoenis Cespedes. He will get paid big money because he's patient. I'd like to believe this as I think Cespedes would be nice in RF next year, but the two statements contradict each other. If the Sox are the favorites... he isn't getting big money/years

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) The only problem with that theory is: 1) Desmond's probably going to be close to $15 million, and Latos $10-12 million, so you're already well over what you were willing to pay Cespedes/Upton 2) Latos difficult personality/chemistry issues 3) Blackmon has reached salary arbitration, so you're adding even more salary compared to what's going out So the real question is whether JR would possibly okay a 25% payroll increase coming off last season's debacle. Desmond less than a year ago turned down a $107 million contract extension, btw. Latos isn't going to get more than 6-8 mil after last season

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) I am leaning towards wanting this dude over any options but the Sox have no assets left however. Hahn can't trade the entire top half of the farm. Maybe EJ + Danish + Others? Getting Blackmon and signing say Desmond and a Latos type makes this a scary team.

Cespedes would be cool and the power bat would be nice, but I'm starting to lean more towards the sign Desmond and then go after Ajax camp..

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:11 PM) Rationalize all you want. The sox accelerated their rebuild, traded away 5 minor leaguers, and still *maybe* will be .500. They had two ways to go this offseason, they chose neither. The lack of strategy in this front office is depressingly average. They traded away 1 minor leaguer worth anything.. they are much better now than they were last year and it's not like Frazier and Lawrie are locks to leave once they can hit the FA market. We have gotten guys like Eaton, Sale & Q on deals so the 5 very forgettable minor leaguers they have traded off aren't going to haunt us IMO. Plus, there are a lot of free agents on the board and quite a bit of time before the season starts and guess what: if we tank and Frazier has 25 bombs by the all star break and Lawrie is hitting well and fielding 2b decently, we are going to be getting a helluva lot more back for those guys than we spent.
-
Cespedes before this year: Never hit 30 HR Was an overall negative defensive WAR player Was coming off seasons w/ OPS of 736 & 751 Had staggering OBP's of .294 & .301 (people say Frazier's OBP sucks??) And now people are freaking out that some other team is going to pay him 100+ million dollars to age and decline. If we are gonna get an outfielder, go for broke at Upton, or sign Jackson for defense in RF and sign Desmond on a 1-2yr deal to upgrade the offense at SS.
-
Should just DFA him.. bet no one else would try him in the majors this year... this guy was what, the 2nd worst player in baseball last season?
-
Wonder if they are going to try to lock him up longer term. Something like 5/25 would be cool.

Gonna guess 1/6.5m w/ 1m worth of incentives

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Knackattack replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) I'd rather Eaton play LF with Melky in RF. Reason is simple, with all of our lefty pitchers, seems likely that there would be more balls hit to LF. Seems legit. Melky throws well too, so the only thing Avi could do won't be lost. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Either way we cut it, anything is an upgrade over Avi in RF, IMO. I think Fowler is a bigger improvement than most give him credit for because his name is Upton/Cespedes & he costs a pick. I actually like Fowler and think he would be a smart pick up, and it leaves us room to get a RHP as well. Cespedes is nice and I think he would hit 30 HR here every year but he is a borderline .300OBP guy that I think we would all start to hate once his BABIP drops. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) I am warming up to the idea of signing Fowler despite not liking the idea of losing the comp pick. Essentially the Sox turn Samardzija into Fowler which would help both the offense and defense. According to fangraphs, Fowler played better defense than Eaton in 15' so CF D would be upgraded. Fowler in CF pushes Eaton to LF/RF which should be an upgrade over Melky/Avi. Fowler would provide some LH pop and OBP to a lineup that needs it. Looking at that way, Fowler actually sounds like a good idea. In 28.1 innings in RF, Eaton has 2 DRS and a 37.8 uzr/150, let's do it! -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Knackattack replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm thinking Fowler will get something like 3/36 or 4/44. He's only 29 so 4 years isn't the scariest thing in the world, but with the money Parra got and Heyward not breaking 200M, I think a lot of these guys are going to get less money than they originally expected. -
And then when the Sox are in contention and Anderson is struggling.. then maybe Alexei

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

Could be a lot of 2-0 1st innings with Eaton and Fowler in front of Abreu and Frazier. -
Wilmer Flores is a SS who hit 16 HR last year, is 24, arb eligible and trending upwards. You're not getting that for Avi Garcia + your garbage, the Mets open that conversation with some one like Spencer Adams.
-
I see Cespedes as a more likely fit in RF than Gordon and since signing an OF is all about getting Avisuck outta here... I'll go with Cespedes.

Boston fans probably extremely butthurt over the cost Yanks paid for Chapman compared to the price they paid for Kimbrel

Your Saladino 2016 Offensive Projections
Knackattack replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I remember seeing Saladino play 3-5 games at SS and making 2 or 3 incredible plays, displaying an above average arm for SS and I remember him being an absolute monster at 3b. I really think he will translate to a +7-10 DRS type guy at SS. Offensively... .230/.280/.350, but over a full year he will probably crack 10 homers and swipe 20+ bags; however, paired with his strong defense and a good line-up around him, he is definitely a viable starting SS. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) Regarding RF issues.... They'd have to try Cabrera in RF and hope for the best...unless they bring in two out of Span, Parra, Fowler, Jackson and forget the Big 3 (or make a trade for one OFer). Feels like the best we can possibly hope for is Big 3 now with an additional midseason acquisition if we're in contention. Melky would basically be the same thing as Avi in RF but we'd have an elite defensive LF with Gordon.. and having Frazier/Sally in the IF and Gordon/Eaton on that side of the OF would at least make 2/3 of the defense above average
-
Jesus, for that price I wouldn't have minded him coming in for LF and some one like Parra for right
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Why is that? LaRoche can't hit lefties and Avi can hit righties. You also have Melky and other guys and need to give them rest. Why wouldn't we carry 5 outfielders? Especially when you are going to have a super sub like Sanchez on the bench? Sanchez has the arm for like 1 position in the infield.. 2b.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Keep elite things elite! Then who plays right? The whole point of getting another outfielder is to get rid of Avi.
-
Just move Gordon to RF, bat him 4th behind Abreu and in front of Frazier (that's a lot of 3 run bombs), find some insurance guys for the pen/rotation to battle it out in ST and call it an offseason.
