I don't think Sanchez has the arm for anything other than 2B, so it's pretty likely Rollins (who is definitely winning the battle so far this spring) starts at SS and Saladino is the IF sub at all positions.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) How was Danks' velocity? That is the big question for me. If he can get that fast ball back into the low 90's he should be effective. His change up has become a solid pitch. Half of his change ups hang up high and get crushed though. If it's low and fading it's a great pitch, but Danks has shaky control and his lack of velocity makes it pretty easy to wait on that change and crush it when he hangs it

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) I'm not saying bruce is the answer is just really believe they might still be a big bat away still. That's what the trade deadline is for. If the Sox are really close to contention then they can grab a bat then.

You know they are going to 60 day DL LaRoche, use Eaton as the DH and keep Avi and Melky's s***ty gloves in the OF

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Can't argue with that. I just don't think he deserves the beat down, considering the other offensive (and defensive) luminaries on this team. Just because there were other underperformers on the team last season doesn't make his awful defense, complete lack of plate discipline or non-existent power acceptable. Everything negative said about Garcia is warranted and derived from his play. The only thing the guy does is hustle and if he doesn't put it together by the trade deadline I expect him to be replaced if we are even close to the playoff chase.

Quintana has just been on a losing team his entire career and doesn't throw 97mph so most people overlook him and would call him a "good #3 on a contending team". I feel like in the court of public opinion, your team's success has something to do with your perceived value as a pitcher. Guys that break that usually have what Hawk would call "Nintendo Stuff" like Sale or Kazmir back when the Rays sucked.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) And how do we know he was offered to the Sox? I would imagine that if they trade a quality player like Coghlan for Aaron freakin Brooks they must have tried many other places and not found much interest.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Agreed -- another great fit off the table. If there's reason to be upset, it's about the aggregate result of the offseason OF "hunt," not any individual player. If you're going to commit to another year of Avi in RF just say it. I've been behind every move they made this offseason, but Coghlan was a perfect platoon fit for RF. Cheap and pretty decent on defense too, I feel like they're just going to keep feeding BS to reporters about them "trying on outfielders" because they know everyone hates Avi and they don't want to admit to the fan base that they're gonna roll the dice with him for another year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 07:00 AM) The comment was tongue in cheek. The answer is their is no reason to vote for Donald Trump. The only reason I can think of to do it is to keep Sanders far, far away.
-
It's been said before, but the real frustration here is seeing Coghlan go to Oakland for peanuts, not Fowler signing elsewhere.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) I really like Petricka. I hope the Sox don't trade him for someone fairly average or below. He needs another above average pitch to be useful.
-
I'd trade Avi and Petrika for him if the Reds threw in a little $

Ian Desmond Signs 1 Year 8M Deal with Rangers
Knackattack replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd be okay with Avi in LF but at this point I'm more confident in LaRoche posting a positive WAR in 150 games than Awfulsail and his defense plodding around RF. -
I don't think the Sox being in on Desmond is the thread to be talking about attendance so...
-
Low Risk/High Reward is definitely a thing.. the probability of high reward is very small but the cost of the player is so low that it's worth the shot..

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Anyway possible to build a package around Johnson for Puig? No way. Johnson probably gets you Ethier and some cash but no way he is a centerpiece for Puig.

FWIW, I know what has been reported about Latos, but I actually went to Coconut Creek High with him and was on the same team and this guy was f***ing awesome to be around. Helped everyone, definitely busted your balls while doing it, but he just wanted to win. And this was highschool. Definitely a party guy and a little bit of a bro but not an asshole.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Desmond likely will be traded by the Rays. His $3.3 mill. salary for a 4th OFer is way to rich for their liking. The A's article said they could get Desmond for a B level prospect. It should take more than that. But the Sox would be better off with a healthy Desmond-give you a 3 WAR-for the cost [$3.3 mill. this year, maybe $4 mill. next) rather than Fowler for three years at $10 mill. per. The Sox need a good, versatile glove and who has a bat with upside. Get all the Desmonds and its a playoff caliber roster

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) What happened to Cabrera? You're going to leave Avi playing the field to DH Cabrera? Yes. Avi has a beast arm and maybe playing left would be a little better than right since the ball is getting pulled and going to one general area instead of slicing away in right which he just can not figure the f*** out. Cabrera sucks in left because he is old and slow, can't work on that.
-
Avi sucks really bad, Soler just sucked. Either of them could become really good but it's more likely for Soler since he only sucks and doesn't suck really bad.
-
I'd offer Putnam and LaRoche for Ethier and 0 money. You take a little hit salary-wise, but you put Avi in left and Ethier in right and the outfield D looks way better. Ethier sits against LHP and you find a righty DH/OF candidate for the bench.

Ventura: LaRoche will have to earn his spot in Spring Training
Knackattack replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) @JJStankevitz: Robin Ventura on Adam LaRoche: "He's gotta go into spring training and earn a job and earn the right to play." #WhiteSox #SoxFest2016 They'll sign Fowler, keep Avi in RF and move Melky to DH. Bet. -
Crazy to see Longoria not on this list. Says a lot about the young 3B in the league.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 05:43 AM) How could you not buy it? Just curious. I like the team enough to post on a message board regularly about the team but you are contemplating not paying the $$ to watch them play? I guess I take it for granted because I can watch whenever I want but if I lived out of state I feel like I'd buy it no matter what. I actually canceled my subscription for the first time in years last season when I saw LaRoche take a called third strike, drop his head and do that slow, uninterested walk back to the dugout. Could not believe that I was paying to watch him and Avi and I simply stopped doing it.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Would you trade Spencer Adams for Dexter Fowler at 3/$42M? Don't know if this has been mentioned, but I'd trade Keon Barnum or Josh Phegley for Fowler. Our comp picks have always been terrible, and Adams was a 2nd rounder that fell in our lap.
