4/8/11 - Sox vs. Rays - 7:10 (WCIU)

For all you Danks-is-an-ace folks...sorry, he's nowhere near an ace. Outside of Jackson, these starters have no stamina. They routinely fall apart in the 6th inning which of course taxes the bullpen. -
4/7/11 - Sox vs. Rays - 1:10 (CSN)

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) Wouldn't we all ;-/ You would have if the clueless manager learned to just stay out of the way when his starters are pitching as well as Jackson. but as someone mentioned a few days ago he loves to inject strategy in order to put his imprint into every game. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) Pena has lost more games than any reliever Sox have had in years, he always gives up a run. This is exactly what I tried to point out last year. He comes into close games and either gets the loss or puts the game out of reach. It was absolutely amazing the run differential in sox losses that involved Pena were the runs he gave up. -

The Sox with Peavy healthy could actually have the best starters in the AL to go with the worst bullpen in the AL. None of them have shown me much. And Guillen will wear Matt out. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) A winnable game until NL 2.0 had to inject "strategy" into the game. Sums up the day perfectly Guillen's best managing comes when he remains a spectator. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Like we were in 2006 when we had an incredible 5 man rotation coming off of a dominant world series showing. but none of them are in the category of the pitchers mentioned there's a difference between one hit wonders and ace pitchers no one from that 2005-2006 staff will have to worry about preparing HOF acceptance speeches -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) One day our manager will realize that this is the AL and bunts before the 7th inning are something that should be avoided. And that the use of bad loogy's just because they favor their left paw is going involve runs scoring in bunches. A stubborn man whom hopefully is going to be someone else's problem. Here...Here....can we initiate that Florida trade again? He wants to be an NL manager, let him go. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) No, it doesn't. You would be already be looking to buy World Series tickets if the Sox had all three of them. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) If we're ripping D1, seriously look at the actual numbers. 6 IP, 6 h, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's. If Roy Halladay put up that line, you wouldn't be sitting there saying "He's not an ace!". But that's Halladay's historical norm. When Danks does that for as long as Roy, he's an ace. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) He is a f***ing LOOGY that is it. Guillen is trying to make him something he is not. This is Randy Williams all over again. Every year sox management has to show the world how smart they are by claiming these frogs with the intent of transforming them into princes. Frankly, this game was over when Alexei bunted into that triple play. Alexei never has been nor will he ever be a good bunter - his heart is clearly not in it yet Guillen continues to force the issue. And watch for the return of the Sunday or the opportunity to sweep but I'll take 2 out of 3 mentality lineup. He'll use today as justification. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) 1 year $10M is all in. The bullpen, rotation and line-up would each be top 5 in all of baseball in my mid. Sale would be a LOOGY/spot starter for when Peavy is on the DL. There is no way he can not be in the pen for the season as of right now. I fear a heavy reliance on Tony Pena coming up. I fear Tony Pena being on this team period.

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) I think it's "LOOGY" with 2 O's. And doesn't Ozzie was 12 pitchers, not 11? I would think Anthony Carter may be added to your pen as well. LR - Pena MR - Infante MR - Carter LOOGY - Ohman SU - Crain SU- Santos CL - Thornton Yuck, what an awful bullpen. The Sox will have to score a ton of runs. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Before I google it, anyone have what JR and crew paid for the Sox and what Forbes estimate is now? Also, not to be macabre, but JR is 74 and his group could always turn and sell at some point and make a ridiculous profit, so I don't see him sitting around, seems like he's going for it. OK, group bought it for 18m in 1981 and Forbes had it valued at 466m in April of this year. Interesting that gate receipts for '09 were 68m and player expense were 112m. So adding broadcast revenue and all the other revenue sources the Sox and other teams use that they are doing OK financially, especially considering the equity the group has in the team http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/33/baseba...Sox_334758.html Please note I looked at this very quickly and by no means a finance expert, so those out there please add, interested to hear opinions... this combined with the deadspin leaked docs and it makes sense to me that the Sox can add payroll and not be completely screwed Interesting info. My only point was the owners could at anytime they choose add payroll. It's no more complicated or simple than that. They are restricted only by their willingness to do so. We shouldn't have to be masters of finance in our discussions on how to improve the team. We only need owners on the same page.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Because having a team in debt would be bad. And it's different for the Sox then compared to the Yankees or Red Sox, because the Cubs happen to also play in this city and absorb most of the city's fanbase. And if they were in the red, which being at a $180M payroll certainly would have them in red, then we'd basically mortgage our future and have to become what the Cubs are; a poor team due to big contracts with high ticket prices to pay those off. Nice sentiment but not surprisingly, you didn't my answer my question. How do you know the current owners of the Chicago American League Ballclub can't afford a 180 million dollar payroll? And further, if they couldn't afford it and takes what it took to put your favorite team in an elite class, why would want them as owners?

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) Nothing that KW said today indicates to me that they are planning to trade anyone. It sounds like KW wants to sign PK, sign AJ and sign a bullpen guy and see what happens. You can't keep trading to fill one hole by opening new ones. With the sorry state of that farm system, they have to be major players in FA. They cannot afford to further alienate the fan base. There is a battle for the baseball dollar in this city and with the present management disarray on Clark and Addison, Reinsdorf has once again been giving an opportunity to run this city and create a new loyal generation of Sox fans. It's all on him.
-
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) Yeah and the organization would be $50 million in the red. And you base that on what exactly? Further, I could give rat's ass how much they would be in the hole (if that were true, which I doubt). If they can't afford to run a major league team in this city, they have no business owning one. Do you think the fans in New York, Boston and LA care about that? Why should we?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) With both Konerko and Dunn, the Sox payroll would be at around $110 million, no? We'd have to trade somebody making a ton of money and it's not going to be Jake Peavy. Please stop with this restricted payroll/budget nonsense. No other fanbase is more consumed about money than those of the Chicago White Sox. The Sox owners are not poor. There is no salary cap in baseball. Chicago is no worse than the third largest baseball market in the known universe. Count the Cubs and Chicago is second only to New York and that's because of population, not interest. We could have a 180 million dollar payroll if they so ordered. The naivety is astounding. Reinsdorf and his management has been conditioning its fanbase for close to 30 years.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) What the hell is a "purely NL hitter"? I'll take my chances on Albert if he choose to leave St. Louis.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Hopefully Jerry is mad about missing on Lebron and wants to do some spending. Sign Konerko and then entice Crawford to come join this potent line-up and play 81 games in a hitter's paradise. Dunn on the field at cell looked like he wanted the season to start now.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Why not dump Pierre, save the $5 million he would cost this year, and put that money in the bullpen? Rios could lead off. Vizquel and Ramirez platoon in the 2 hole. Quentin bats 3rd and plays LF Dunn hits clean up as the DH Paulie 5th Teahen 6th, in RF Beckham 7th Morel hits 8th when Vizquel sits Castro and any good defensive catcher share the 9th spot That's my order, unless they could dump Teahen and his salary, which could also go into the bullpen. there's no way the Sox go for broke and then keep teahen for nothing other than spelling starters after a blowout.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) It's not my favorite signing of all time...I have an irrational hatred for Adam Dunn. But given what our options were, I suppose I understand the move...I just fear what the next shoe to drop will be... Hello we play 81 games in a bandbox.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) KW says they have room for both Dunn and Konerko, and that would be the ideal fit. - Cowley Attention my Sox brothers and sisters.....There is no salary cap in baseball.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) Adam Dunn can run a little, he's a far better athlete than any of the slow moving players we've had in town over the years. Oh the Minnesota games will be big fun next year.
