  1. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) I guess its easy to destroy them though....either that or Walker is just a master at doing so. I really think he has pitchers of KW with a goat or something....I can't figure out how he keeps his job otherwise. that's hilarious and probably true
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Where does that figure come from? $20 million? You said they hadn't been under 1.6 million since 1999, but there's no way they draw over 1.85 million this year if they don't at least get back to .500. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people defending these multi-millionaires and billionaries who hid in the backround and use to Sox as a way to make some easy chump change. Reinsdorf insulted Sox fans with that "All In" b.s. When I first heard that I'm saying to myself.....and? He's in no worse than the third largest market in the known universe and he is so compelled to say this year (I guess as opposed to the other almost 30 years since he and his cabal railroaded DeBartolo out of ownership) that he's going all out. That's my minimum expectation every year. And don't look now, but he and that awful management team are failing miserably. To relieve the Chicago sports scene of Reinsdorf you have to buy the Sox and the Bulls. The last time I heard, he's lookling for about 1 billion dollars. Imagine paying almost nothing for both of those teams and realizing that kind of the profit. And the one athlete most responsible for Reinsdorf still being relevant wasn't even given a piece of the ownership.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) That's about the only way I will go to a game. New ownership is the only way I'll ever go back which means I'll never see my team in person again. Why didn't DeBartolo sue MLB to let him in? Steinbrenner was afraid of his money so he colluded with Reinsdorf because he knew Jerry wasn't going to compete with him. Then soon after Reinsdorf gets in, Steinbrenner refers to Reinsdorf and Einhorm as the Abbot and Costello of baseball.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) I hope we see Ozzie and fired in the same sentence more. We go winless on this road trip, and I'm confident we'll see a new manager next Friday in Chicago. What manager of any quality would want to be bothered with this organization? All Reinsdorf will do is promote another lacky from within. The last time he went outside the organization it produced Thomas, Ventura, Alvarez and McDowell. He won't do that again.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) I was told today the Chairman is pissed, and heads will roll this year. No idea what that means. It means the Marlin trade for Guillen may be back on.....
  6. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) there are no real words to describe how pathetic this team/organization has become.... it sure isn't....Reinsdorf would have been long gone had it not been for the Bulls
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) so I suppose hawk thinks the Davis joins the ranks of the elite pitching we've been facing? Dr. Guillen's Chicago White Sox - for whatever ails ya - teams love for us to come to town... We fix everyone else's problems except our own.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) I probably should take a break from this board til we start winning. This team is really really bad right now. Losing all these home games is a terrible thing. Even when you get off to a rotten start, you should win series at home when you are a team that is "all in." The Royals should have our record; we should have their record. I bet after today's game comes Oz's "we suck" rant. He's got to rant before we get swept Sunday. The Bulls are biggest thing going on in this city. If any team in this city is "all in" - it's them. How ironic Reinsdorf treats the Bulls like distant relatives but they not the Sox have kept his rear end in this city.
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) jesse crain has been an average pitcher throughout his career. hes had a year or two where hes been slightly better than average, and a year or two where hes been slightly worse. He is what he is...a 7th inning guy. Nothing more All I know is Santos looked like a closer last night. but you know he'll get overused
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) I guess, but it sure would have been nice and maybe even set a tone for the season to have Mark and Danks simply finish the ninth. There's something to be said about nice, clean baseball victories in April. But no, their arms would fall off so you can't let a guy finish a game. Some organization has to have the guts to change the culture. Let pitchers finish what they start.
  11. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) the following are the things that stupify me about todays game (i know i am being redundant with some of them, but this is irritating me that much) if you come out publicly and say Thornton is your closer, then thornton is your closer If not, and sale is your closer, then ok. But if sale is your closer and you bring him in winning by 3, then he is your f***ign closer and you leave him in there with a men on 1st and 2nd and 0 out up by 2. If you then decide that Sale isn't your closer because he gave up 3 straight hits, and Jesse crain is going to be your closer, and you allow crain to pitch with bases loaded an 0 outs, then you allow crain to pitch with bases loaded and 1 out. More than all that though, if you aren't smart enough as a manager to realize that 3-4 tough games for a reliever (2 of which your LF dropped easy fly balls that would have won the game), isn't nearly as indicative of a guys potential as pitcher as his stellar previous 3 years (and 200 innings) of work, then you aren't smart enough to be a manager in major league baseball this is exactly why I will rejoice the day Guillen is no longer managing this team
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) That's it. That's really all the Sox can do. By the way, in the old days today would have been a complete game easy win, as would Mark's the other day. It's simply absurd this pitch count crap. Eight innings of greatness, then you have to take the guy out lest you ruin his arm. Utter crap. Guillen sees himself as such a maverick, why not put an end to this pitch count crap and let the pitchers finish their games. And he needs to stop with this ridiculous use of 3 relievers to get the last 9 outs regardless of game conditions. This guy has no real feel for the game. Stop manipulating the flow of the game, Ozzie. They'll be times to use the pen - not every game.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) I want Rios gone if we're 6 or more games out of it by the trade deadline. The Sox best chance to rid themselves of Rios was during the off-season. He's overrated and way overpaid.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) KW needs to stop trading for a couple years. Then we're stuck with the slop we got. Perhaps we need someone else to do the trading
  15. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Nonsense. Ozzie is probably the worst in game manager in the league, especially at making decisions with his pitching staff. This one is on Oz He manages by his gut - he needs a gut replacement.
  16. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) Alright Kenny.. call in that favor from Kansas City (Mark Teahen).. and get us some Soria. Thank you -
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) I'm quoting this just because it needs to be said again. There is no way that Buehrle was taken out by ozzie. Mark had to tell him he was tired. He was tired giving up two hits - got it.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Matt Thornton has got to be mentally done with as a closer. It's a shame, but now you just hope he can salvage his season as a set-up man. That's what I'm worried about as well.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) AGAIN?!?! That is not Thornton's fault. Ozzie destroyed the natural rhythm of the game. What is three more damn outs. You leave Mark in there to win or lose his own games.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Thornton is blowing another one. Ozzie couldn't resist - his imprint has to be on every game. I can think of only two successful one-pitch closers - one's in the HOF (Hoyt Wilhelm) and the other is one his way (Mariano Rivera)
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Buerhle is the man tonite. Wonder if Ozzie let's him go for the 9th? I would kind of doubt it as Gavin had this kind of agame yesterday and was taken out after 8. No reason to extend the pitchers to far this early in ther year. As long as Ozzie can resist injecting strategy, the Sox will be fine with Mark pitching the 9th. Let the game be.
  22. A healthy Peavy results in possibly gavin floyd as the 5th starter - that's incredible. No one in the AL can match that - they're hard pressed to match the 4 starters we have now. Look at the scores around the league - Boston is getting torched by a truly lousy tampa bay team. No one has any decent set of starters - except us. I would just like to see the pen come around. I would like to see the pen issue get resolved internally because I love this lineup. I don't want Kenny screwing this up. If Peavy comes back and the pen gets straight this is a 100 win season and another trip to the series.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) I like Oz, but not letting Sergio open the ninth was big D dumb. Well I loathe him...he is the worst handler of a pitching staff I've seen in the decades I"ve watched this sport. No one on the planet can explalin to me why on earth you need 3 pitchers to get 9 outs. Every year we end up with an exhausted bullpen by mid-season.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) There is a significant portion of this site that knew what would happen. He will get another shot because of the defense but he doesn't deserve it. Way to kill my Chicago sports buzz. Expect it to be killed a lot more before the season's over. Danks is not an ace and Thorthon is not a closer. You just can't stand out there and throw fastballs. He's needs at least two more pitches.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) the "John Danks is not an ace" stuff was the first thing I saw when I opened this thread Well, he's not. Sorry to break it to you. The best starter on the Sox would be the Phillies 4th starter. As long as the current management is in charge, you won't see aces in a Sox uniform unless they outbid themselves for another use-to-be-ace who's arm was ready to fall off. Repeating...John Danks - an ace he is not!!
