Sox versus Tigers Game thread July 17
mcgrad70 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) That bites; I thought we had this one. We did but Guillen decided to pitch to a guy who has historically beaten his teams with men on base. They are just some guys on every team that you just can't let beat you and after they got past the Pillsbury Dough Boy, I thought it was a no-brainer, even for Guillen, to walk Martinez. -
It's going to break my heart if and when E-Jax leaves. This guy could easily have 10 wins by now with better run support.
-
And if Guillen can just sit on his hands and resist the urge to insert strategy in the bottom of the 9th and just let Jackson finish what he started, it's a white sox winner.
-
What is it about Reinsdorf-run organizations that Bulls ends up Carols Boozer and the Sox not to be out-done by their west side counterparts end up with Adam Dunn?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 02:42 AM) I want changes as much as the next guy, but why not trade them Dunn and/or Rios? Rios needs a change of scenery again and Atlanta might bite if we paid a lot of the salary. CQ may finally be figuring it out this season. He's definitely improved his defense. Many people on this board wanted to DFA him last year for his bad defense or at least send him down. He's gotten pretty good. The Sox should be trying to do everything in their power to deal Rios/Dunn/Pierre, not CQ. Not for a pitcher. I feel strongly it'd be dumb to trade one of the only productive hitters in our lineup the first half for a pitcher. I mean why would we trade offense?? We gots no offense to speak of! Wouldn't some of you be pissed to see us trade CQ for a f***ing pitcher?? The idea is to add Dayan's bat to supplement our good hitters. That means dumping Juan for a prospect. We don't want to dump a good hitter to replace him with a good hitter (Dayan). To improve to where we might be a division contender, we need to add Dayan and drop Juan. Then you got Dayan, Rios (yuk) and CQ in the outfield! Potentially you ADD to the lineup this way. Excellent post...well done!

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) The only part of this post that is worth a damn is the minor league part. I never understood why they don't spend for top talent in the draft (ok well I do it's because JR and Bud Selig are close, so JR wouldn't think of going over slot so Bud can control player salaries in the draft when in the grand scheme of things it's not that much money /rant) but they have no problem throwing millions at Cubans and players from Japan (didn't they pay Iguchi without scouting him in person? I know it worked out but still). J4L apparently is forgetting the McCarthy for Danks fleecing. I think the "manager quit" crap is pure hyperbole, but I'm tiring of playing smallball crap. Plus, I'm not sure what makes JR "worthless" besides what I posted above. He spent the money. Didn't fans b**** for years about how he was cheap and whatnot. He put his dick out on the table to win NOW. What more do you want from him? Put us all out of our misery and sell. Most of these fans on these sites absolutely slay me in their defense of this man. The guy should have been spending AT LEAST 120 million a year in a metropolis this size. Heck, he ought to be spending that much on the minor league system alone. Give me a freaking break with St. Jerry of Reinsdorf already. The guy is and always has been a snake oil salesman and this year he's getting exactly what he deserves and I couldn't be more pleased.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Awesome. He's stealing money. Only choice is to release him. It's the only thing to do. And bat Dunn ninth. Imagine what Harry and Jimmy would have said.....

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) That's why they need to blow it up. Good teams don't have all these "trap games." You go out and beat the no name pitcher and your name pitcher mows them down. Rather than meekly drop 3 of 4 more to Minnie. The teams I watched growing up didn't have a quarter of the talent these guys have. But they played the way the Twins play and that's why they won.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Rios is tradeable in my opinion-might not get much in return but maybe somebody could use him He's already been traded to the only team foolish enough to take him
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) Have we caught Cleveland yet? I don't look at the standings. At some point that might change. I've been just watching our product day in and out. Haven't seen the need to look at the standings yet. Not til I'm convinced we have the team to win any division. The Sox can't beat Mount Carmel's baseball team.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Because I don't think he's maximizing his God-given ability. It's a waste, a shame, however you want to describe it. Dunn's just lost mentally. That's not about lack of effort...that's simply trying too hard and thinking too much. It just usually doesn't last for this long. If you want to compare, except for the first 2-3 months of 2010, Rios has been lost for almost 3 years at the plate. And his defense has deteriorated markedly this year. It's clear to everyone who follows the team closely. You can hear the laughter all the way from Toronto - this was an awful, awful acquisition.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Beckham turned out to be a major bust. The talent's in him, we all saw it but this organization just screws with its stars so badly, they never recover.
-
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) It's disturbing that this continues and, no batting stance changes, no choking up a little to make contact, no one seemingly aware of game situations. You cant call what our coaches do, as coaching. There is no instruction thats visible to me. If they are ignoring it, they shouldn't play. Which is exactly why you cannot replace Guillen with anyone currently in the organization. Unfortunately, the biggest ego in the organization belongs to the owner and he can't stand hearing the truth from the paying fans, the media or any astute baseball outsider. If he's not going to sell, he's got to change the paradigm because this one ain't working.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) Yeah! Screw facts and statistics! the facts are jeter's in first place and alexi ain't

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Congratuations Chicago White Sox. You knew coming into this series you had to start beating Central Division teams ... better yet at home. You almost got swept by Kansas City. You were owned by 3 KC starting pitchers, all of whom suck. You were outplayed by a team that is AWFUL on the road. You were outplayed by a team that has been so bad the past month it is laughable, again at home. Congratulations boys. Nice series. Get ready to get your asses swept by Minnesota and maybe just maybe we'll see some firings and changes to staff and player personnel both. Getting swept by the Twins going into the all-star game may be the last straw.
-
If this is Reinsdorf's version of "all in", I shutter to think what not being "all in" looks like..
-
This game has a high "pissability" factor. When the Sox finish their typical 5 or 6 games out of first, these are games that come to mind.
-
QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Loaded for Alexei. I'm not even kidding...I don't get excited in these situations anymore. I get scared. Like when I broke some artifact in my house when I was a kid, and I'd cower in my room until my mom came home and ripped me a new one. Alexei hits into a DP. Run scores, but so what? Pathetic. Maybe the Sox are just throwing games...no major league offense can be this bad for so loing
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) yup. and he's got some of the best stuff on the staff I guess Cooper's so-called magic powers extend only so far.
-
Terrible defense by Morel with the runner in front of him, No runs should have been scored.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) i guess..this team just sucks that's it in a nutshell....they can analyze and scrutinize all they want....at the end of this day, this is just a horrid, overpaid baseball team. this team will not win a division and even if they did so what? they're not getting to the series with this team. reinsdorf has a lot of fans buying into the notion that winning a division is a successful season

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) Laynce Nix doesn't look juiced or anything. 2 easy for Peavy. I assume we would just skip his next start . If Guillen can refrain from meddling in the 9th, the Sox will win this game -

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Dunn is overthinking everything right now. He looks lost at the plate. he can't find the plate since he stands 15 feet away from it -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) they are showcasing pierre's wide variety of skills. next up, the weak grounder to the pitcher Showcasing Pierre to whom? Unemployment? the only organization foolish enough to sign him is the one he's playing for
