  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) Let's hope not because his trade value will be next to nothing. Not that it hasn't taken a major hit since the deadline. To me it's inexcusable that he wasn't moved at the deadline and that Jackson was. When you have Viciedo in the wings as a replacement, it's darn near a firable offense. If this guy is projected to be the savior, this organization is going to be in free fall for a long time
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) The problem is we have to keep thinking about him for 3 more seasons cause until the contract runs out, there's always the chance he reverts to the old Dunn and some diehards will insist he's going to get it back. Hopefully our fans won't bite this winter when we hear all the glowing reports of Dunn getting in shape; Dunn hitting off a tee; Dunn improving. I would hope they won't buy season tickets until Dunn is removed from the roster. How can you pay thousands to watch that guy?? Just seeing him whiff and hit into DPs would have to ruin an otherwise enjoyable ballpark experience. I hate Rios as well, but at least Rios is still hitting over .200. Dunn is an F. Rios' grade is D to D-. Williams got what he deserved. He took it out on Edwin Jackson that he wasn't flipped last summer for Dunn - couldn't wait to get rid of him. After Kenny realized had been played yet again, he ends up signing Manny to that fiasco of a contract Had Dunn come last summer and turned out to be the colossal stiff he is, no way does Kenny sign him and all that money, He didn't want Jackson around to remind him of one of his many category 5 blunders and of course Rios is right there too.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) if the Twins were giving him away for nothing, sure why not. If the Twins were asking for something legitimate in return, there's no reason to do that sort of deal, you get a draft pick back but that's it. If the Sox had plenty of money to spend, Kubel would fit in as an OK DH option next year. Unfortunately, I think the Sox have spent their DH funds for the near future. The Sox owners have money, they just don't spend much of it and when they do it's put into hands of incompetent management. You can't be all-in and have as many glaring weaknesses the Sox did going into the season. If you're all in you're trying to get Granderson (which was doable during the off-season if the Sox had offered Danks), Beltre and Gonzalez. All they got for they're all-in trouble was a 48 million dollar stiff. And now the Sox are Dunn. Maybe someday the Sox will have ownership committed to producing an elite organization.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) So Cheat was wrong about Hahn 3-4 years ago, too? and I hope he's wrong about Reinsdorf's son taking over too. dealing with dear ol' dad for almost 30 years is enough just sell the team and ride into the sunset
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) The Sox could use a new GM too. If the Sox or the Cubs don't plan or spending 180 million or more a year on their major league roster, they can forget about Epstein. You job becomes a lot less challenging when you got money to spend. Imagine if the White Sox had some of Boston's players.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) I think my biggest issue is I kind of have a yearning to see the Sox go outside the organization for their next GM and manager. It doesn't feel like the way our organization operates is working, and Hahn has been here for a long time. Agree completely - but Reinsdorf won't allow it - he wouldn't be able to stomach the truth about the real present state of his baseball franchise.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) I've had the argument against Hahn for the contracts of Teahen and Dunn amongst others with my guy on 35th. My guy insists he that takes his marching orders from Kenny "The Genius" Williams, which are sign these guys at the best possible price within reason. He said the team on the field is not a reflection of Rick Hahn. As I've mentioned before, he refers to Hahn as being brilliant. If the team on the field is not a reflection of Hahn, what makes him think Reinsdorf going to allow him to do anymore than Kenny? I'm not getting this unless Kenny is just being set up to fail. They lucked out and won a world series - that was not in the plans. There was no mantra of all-in in 2005 - win or die trying or some such if I recall.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) Every great GM has started off as an unknown quantity, just with different backgrounds and levels of experience. Hahn may not have a scouting or player development background, but he's got 11 years experience in a major league front office. Furthermore, he's incredibly intelligent with graduate degrees from both Harvard Law and Kellogg. He's got the business background that's becoming more common with new GM hires, and let's be honest, those guys have been doing a tremendous job so far. On top of that, he's a tremendous negotiator, which is a great skill to have in the current baseball environment. Beyond his resume, he's been rated as a top two GM candidate by Baseball America two years in a row. Those rankings are based on feedback from executives around the league. Plus he's been asked to interview for several GM openings in the past few years. I can't recall which positions, maybe the Pirates and Mets, but I do know the guy has turned some interviews down. So not only do other organizations value him, he must think pretty highly of himself to pass on available opportunities when there are only 30 positions in total. There's obviously a lot of risk in hiring Hahn, but not any more than hiring any other rookie GM candidate. Surround him with the right baseball people and I think he could build a quality organization. Unfortunately for us, we might have to make a decision on him this off-season, since I have a feeling the Cubs will be calling and that's one of the few jobs he's probably holding out for. So if we do make the playoffs, JR may have to make a tough decision between Hahn and KW. It's never easy going with an unknown quantity at the GM position while trying to compete, but other organizations have done so recently and successfully. If Reinsdorf thinks as highly of Hahn as those around the league do, then he very well could knock KW out of the GM position in the off-season even if we make the playoffs this year. Reinsdorf is still going to be the owner. If he completely changes the way he runs the Sox to appease Hahn, I'll never set foot in the Cell again as long as that man is the owner. Don't know how his graduate degrees translate to winning on the field. He sounds like a bean counter to me. Instead of being the GM, let him go run GM.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) Hahn's supposed to be one of the best negotiators in all of baseball. Well since we never go after elite baseball players because of their representation, that's a moot point.
  10. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) On one hand, it appears that Hahn is well respected within and outside the White Sox organization. However, there is a long-standing view in management theory that real change only comes from changing the GM. Therefore, it really depends on what the Sox want to do. Hiring an internal candidate will only lead to incremental change, at best, not the radical change that some SoxTalkers desperately want. I think a Hahn-as-GM could work, if done properly. He'd have to have the ability to make some changes (e.g., the field manager and drafting) while continuing to do the things that the organization does correctly (e.g., the pre-Rios and Peavy financial decisions, a focus on good pitching). We really don't know his true philosophy for running an organization nor how much freedom he would have to implement changes, so even if he's the best-GM-in-the-world, he could be unable to implement his ideas. Those same opportunities should have been afforded to Kenny. I don't particularly care for Kenny but fair is fair. Reinsdorf has made some colossal blunders in his ownership - on both the South and West side - and forcing Guillen down Kenny's throat is near the top of his less than stellar baseball decisions.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Survey SAYS: DINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!!!!! That's exactly what it is. That's the hallmark of Reinsdorf's tenure as owner
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) And E-3 Dunn should win the LVP Award - Least Valuable Player
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) Once again, we deserve to lose if we can't score a single measly run against Chad Freakin' Durbin. The Sox are dying a slow agonizing death for if they don"t win this one, it is truly ova
  14. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) Can't f$%king make my favorite team work! Talented baseball players for starters - you know the ones Reinsdorf bemoans about paying or even inquiring about because of their representatiion
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 11:21 PM) This team is the epitome of baseball stupid. There are no fundamentals at all with team and shows time and again. Ramirez did not favors in his at-bat as he did not even try to go to right the hanging curveaball on 3-1 should have ended the game yet he tried to hit to to the Dan Ryan The Chicago White Sox.......$120M of baseball stupid Is it beneath these hitters to hit the ball to the opposite field? If Thome was still here, this game would have been ova
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Leadoff triple doesn't score due to moron ball. Dear Hobbit. The run on 3rd is the only run that counts. With the lead-off triple it becomes more interesting to venture a guess as to how they WON'T score
  17. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) Ummm..We did win a World Series with Ozzie. I'm not saying he hasn't lost his luster or that I'm sick of the feuding between OG and KW, but like I said, we did win a WS. Bob You got career years out of a bunch of marginal to mediocre players and haven't come close to that team since.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) I would rather the Sox simply fire Williams before letting Hahn go, and I tend to like Williams. I believe Hahn has a very bright future as a GM and the White Sox need to do everything in their power to retain him. I also have no problem with LaRussa for 2-3 years if it means Duncan comes over. He is really about the only pitching coach in the entire game that I think is absolutely better than Cooper. And I don't get this fascination with Hahn..what the heck has he ever done? Is sounds like the same foolishness with Paxson. Neither of these guys are qualified to run a sports organization.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) So they will make Hahn the GM and force a manager on him. That is brilliant, and BS. Find a new "guy". Yours is full of s***. Hahn will be forced on LaRussa. Hahn will eventually leave for another organization
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Take this for what it is worth. Spoke with my guy on 35th today. This is the only scenario he knows that has been discussed. 1.) Guillen/Cooper out (presumably will go to Florida) 2.) Williams moved up or moved out. 3.) Hahn new GM. 4.) La Russa/Duncan hired. La Russa/Duncan hire would mean no rebuild. I can't see LaRussa answering to a neophyte. Hahn would get the job but he would be doing LaRussa bidding, not the other way around. Then LaRussa eventually becomes president or Executive VP
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) I've been saying that for a long time. I'm glad others feel the same way. You can't give the job to Hahn without giving Kenny (as much I dislike him) the opportunity to work with his own hand-pick manager. Reinsdorf is to blame for all of this crap. If Cito is the guy Kenny wanted, Jerry should have signed-off.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) I don't care if we make the playoffs or not, there has to be changes at the end of the year. Ozzie and KW can simply not co-exist long-term. There is just too much bad blood and philosophical differences between the two. At least one of them has to go. IMO, Ozzie has warn out his welcome here with his constant drama and has done a below average job managing the team the last few years. If he stays, he'd have an even stronger stranglehold on the organization and that's really scary. If do we get rid of KW, then the new GM should be able to pick his own guy. I'm actually starting to like the idea of Hahn as GM. He's incredibly intelligent and it seems like the game is starting to value that more than previous baseball experience. Guys like Friedman and Epstein are proof of that. He seems like a pretty popular name around the league and my guess is if we don't offer him the job, he'll be the next GM of the Cubs. I think you got to make a long-term decision on KW this offseason and if he's the not the guy, offer Hahn the job and maybe KW a John Paxson type position, although I'm not sure he'll go for that. Regardless, do not force a manger on our GM. If KW, Hahn or whomever wants Larussa, then so be it, but I don't want any more power struggles and lack of accountability. LaRussa will not come back here to answer to Kenny or neophyte Hahn. He comes back wielding Pat Riley type powers or not at all.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:14 PM) I don't care if he is with the Twins... Congrats to the big man! If it wasn't for that sillly manager we have, he would have hit it with us. Kenny could have gotten someone else with that money he paid Dunne - like Adrian Beltre to play 3rd
  24. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Or not DING DING DING
  25. A ridiculous waste of the closer here with a 5-run lead.. What further proof do you Ozziepologists need this manager is grossly incompetent?
