QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) you don't honestly know how the players will respond to someone...anyone... with a fresh attitude instead of playing for the guy they know checked out quite a while back. no one knows that's the problem...has Martinez demonstrated even as as coach that he posesses the qualities that are needed to succeed as manager? can we name even one player that attributed their success through Martinez's intervention. sitting next to the manager on the bench just doesn't do it for me - but i'm not doing the hiring with that said...anything is better than what just left here

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I think signing Dave Martinez would be an awesome thing for our team. Look at what Tampa has done the past 3 out 4 seasons, they have put together one hell of an organization down there. Martinez and Madden obviously know how to get the best out of their young talent. If the Sox want to go younger and all signs indicate thats the direction we are headed, Martinez is the guy. I'll be curious to see how he handles Rios and Dunn next year. Obviously Ozzie's approach didn't work. Perhaps Martinez can light a fire under them? I doubt it. The players on the Rays are far superior to what's here in Chicago. Those players don't have those type of motivational issues. So who knows how Martinez who has never managed would fare in this challenging environment. He has no track record. I for one am sick and tired of managers and GMs who come here to cut their teeth.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) I want a manager who successfully redefines how the game should be played today, not following the crowd. Reinsdorf won"t pay for such a manager.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:30 AM) As I just posted in another thread, I don't buy the whole Ozzie quit because he wanted more money claim.. I think that it was already discussed that they wouldn't be extending him past what they already had done, and even furthermore I think it went a little more into the you're probably going to be fired territory.. If the reports are true, which I tend to believe based on how quickly the compensation came up, they had already been in talks with the Marlins about this before Mondays events even happened.. I honestly believe that instead of being fired Ozzie preferred to make it look like he got out of here on his terms.. Instead of just being fired, or let go, he chose to ask to be released and then went on his little rant that he doesn't care about anything but money.. I don't remember ever getting that kind of vibe from Ozzie before, and like its already obvious to see he wasn't going to be returning anyway if you piece together everything we know about the situation.. This way, instead of being fired it makes it look like he was the one who wanted out and not the White Sox who were ready to move on from the Ozzie era.. Also, the fact that it just kind of happened out of nowhere with two games left in the season, I tend to believe that he was informed he wasn't going to be back next year and instead tried to spin it that he no longer wanted to be here anymore.. I think that he DID want to return here, but obviously the feelings weren't mutual.. Ozzie is definitely the kind of person who would take it personally especially with his relationship with KW and knowing that he was being brought back and Ozzie was the one getting let go.. I feel sorry for the handful of Marlins fans down there. Imagine hearing your incoming manager doesn't care about championship rings - all he's about is money. On the job three days and Guillen is already a public relations nightmare in Florida. Buyers remorse is probably starting to creep in. You might see Oz on Fox by the All Star break.

White Sox Sign Sergio Santos to 3 year deal

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) The Sox are gonna be as aggressive as hell in the next few weeks building a new culture within the team ASAP. This includes Manager and staff and then player moves when possible. If this building is at the hands of current ownership with its current GM, don't expect much -
White Sox Sign Sergio Santos to 3 year deal

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) No question who the closer will be looks like Sale to the rotation. Santos does not have a closer's mentality. He blows back-breaking games I would like to see him and Sale in the rotation and the sox just go after someone experienced at closing -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Not to mention, I doubt there has ever been a biggest White Sox fan on this planet. Never been a bigger brown noser that's for sure. The only thing I find entertaining about the Hawkeroo is when Stone gives him those Grand Canyon size moments of pause when he says something off the wall which by the way he's been doing with increased frequency.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I agree completely. Hawk is awesome in his own way. Aren't we all?
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Steve Stone, who has another three years left on his contract (IIRC), has had the rather unique opportunity of partnering with not one but two legendary Chicago broadcasters late in their respective broadcasting careers in Hawk, and then of course, the one and only, Harry Caray.e Harry should have never been forced to leave...going to the Cubs changed the baseball landscape in this city. One in the line of many epic blunders by current ownership

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Exactly. I'm pretty damn tired of him, though. Rooney and Stone - a match made in heaven
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) I never said anything about Boston refusing to pay anything. The chairman could take lessons on how to be all-in from the yankees, red sox and rays

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) I'm still mystified how this organizational mess is 100 percent Kenny's fault but he gets 0 percent of the credit for the World Series in 05. Williams lucked out with a bunch of marginally-talented players all having career years in 2005. That team wasn't expected to win in 2005 and hasn't come close since.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) His very presence put them on the map, lol? We'll test that theory soon enough when he has to compete in the NL East with another flawed roster. The main thing he has going for him is the excitement of a new beginning and a new stadium...but it only took a year for that effect to wear off in Minnesota or Washington (although the Twins' attendance is still excellent, the excitement is long gone). Another thing that happened is there was a vacuum that Ozzie stepped into with Ordonez, Lee and Valentin all leaving and Frank Thomas no longer the dominant force (due to injuries and time) that he once was...it was the right time and right place for Ozzie to become the manager, there's no doubt about that. But the last 3 years, the ONLY map we were on was the one of increasingly negative perception and publicity. KW has his share of the blame, but he hasn't intentionally created it to the extent Ozzie has...sure, we can talk forever about Dunn and Rios backfiring, and if the team doesn't pull out it during this next phase of Sox baseball, it won't be another manager, it will be KW leaving finally. Kenny needs to go now. I absolutely loathe Guillen but this colossal failure of a season can't be put on his back alone.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) It has to be due to the fact Cora made more money than KW during his pro career, as well as the fact that Vanderbilt is considered to be a great school like Stanford. And I don't believe Kenny is degreed
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Boring so far. I wanna hear Kenny And right now he's not saying much of nothing....he should be gone too....this wasn't all on Ozzie...I'm sick of both of them but I"m more tired of Reinsdorf's ownership.
-
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) I don't get why they announce it today, and not on Thursday? Because that day belongs to Kenny's dismissal
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) I know it's a meaningless game, but what kind of organization lets someone resign and then still manage? An organization operated by Jerry Reinsdorf
-
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) As long as Kenny goes by Thrs.. if not this team is doomed. Absolutely agree...he has to go too
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) I've never seen a team fail to compete on a daily/weekly basis like this team. Worst season I can remember in a long long time. 1969 and 1970 weren't this bad - at least you knew those teams had no talent
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) Very true. On paper, this team is bad. Very bad. On paper? LOL
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) Rebuild with what? I don't trust the current GM with that assignment. He couldn't build a winner with 120 big ones...he surely won't be able to do it for half of that
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) You can cancel the post game officially You can cancel the Sox officially until they"re under new management
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Well, that was a terrible start. My hope is he's the 6th starter going into next year and starts off the season in AAA. He has to show he can still consistently get hitters out, as he struggled some in the minors this year and clearly had minimal success in the majors this year. 70% of that roster needs to start the season at triple A

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) I think we just have 2 guys, Quentin and Pierre, who stand very close to the plate Then we have Rios who's practically on his knees and Dunn who stands in another zip code -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Because he has a 3rd baseman. The Sox do love Morel. They aren't replacing him. They are going to give him a chance. They love him because he's cheap
