  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) I do get the feeling that the Sox are going to pull off some crazy trade along these lines that will have us saying... Wow didnt see that one coming! Someone we probably havent even mentioned yet. I really hope so but I think this deadline has the makings of a downer. There is really nothing out there connected to us. I think we stand pat and see how year one of the the "3-year plan" works out. Maybe something minor but I think it's going to be dull for us.
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) ARod for Danks/LaRoche. Get it done KW! The trade would also have to include their color guy, as I think his A rod home run tag line is one of the best in baseball when he says it. And a-Bomb for A-Rod
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) I actually think they would trade him. I would def be interested depending on the trade package, but more importantly how much money is he still owed? With KW it wouldn't suprise me, we all know Kenny gets his guy.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) My guess, KW trades for Alex Rodriguez. Lol. I honestly would be excited about that even if he's a scum bag. But the Yanks are in it and no way giving up A-rod.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) That was last night and so far nothing ever came from it. Sorry was doing some work didn't hear the whole segment so wasn't sure if it was last night or this am. Thanks for clarifying.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) By the way, I'm not saying I want it, I'm just wondering if the Jays ultimately made the grab for Tulo with the intend on moving him again (maybe they didn't...hell if I know). They obviously paid a steep enough price that they would have to feel comfortable either way (moving him or keeping him). I thought orginally when they made the trade that was their intentions but after including Reyes in the trade, as well as having a pressed announcing the trade I'm pretty sure they are keeping him. Which is fine with me, he's good and all but on the decline, and he def won't last on that turf.
  7. Looks like the Cubs are getting close to a deal, was watching Kap and Haugh earlier and they were talking about one of the Cubs Minor leaguers, one of their big international signings was pulled from a game and supposedly his teammates were seen giving hugs and tweeting goodbyes. If there's one thing I hate is being overshadowed by the media kissing the Cubs butts no matter what the trade will be, you watch, after its done they'll be the popular pick for WS
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) Oh s***, time to see who the Dodgers gave up. And one of their outfielders HAS to be on the move. Betting one of the prospects will be Kyle Farmer.
  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) That's not Puig this year. Just a .249/.323/.416 slash overall and an anemic .187/.257/.341 over his last 35 games. I don't think his numbers this year is an accurate window to how good he really is. It's clear he's being chased out and not very well liked in LA. A change of scenery is exactly what this guy needs. I think if he is traded whoever gets him gets a guy with a chip on his shoulder. I think he'll have an impact like Manny did when traded to the Dodgers. As far as Q for Puig, I was all for it a few days ago however losing Q impacts our chances of making a run more than adding Puig. I would love to add him just not sure if Q is something I would part with.
  10. I would love for us to add another bat before Friday, specifically either Puig or Cespedes. But the more I think about it the more I think we stand pat ride it out with the team assembled. If anything I can see a small move, something reminiscent of a Geoff Blum addition. But I truly don't think we're going to do much from now until Friday. It is eriely quiet
  11. Looks like the Dodgers were doing some showcasing last night, found this from Chris Cotillo: http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/7/29/9065...ors-kyle-farmer Pulled a player so they could move Kyle Farmer from catcher to third base. Although probably unrelated. I'm Still hoping Larry King has some insight and we do make a trade with the Dodgers, hopefuly including Puig.
  12. Tom Holliday wants to take care of all of his pitchers, but he understood this spring that he had a responsibility worth millions of dollars. Carlos Rodon, his junior left-handed pitcher at North Carolina State, was widely expected to be one of the very top picks in the June draft. Even now, with Thursday's draft fast approaching, Rodon remains under consideration by the Houston Astros, who own the top pick overall. Holliday, NC State's associate head coach and pitching coach, has a unique perspective. He has 35 years of college coaching experience. His brother Dave is a major league scout with the Atlanta Braves, and his son Matt is an All-Star outfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals. He wanted to give Rodon the best possible chance to become an All-Star himself. That meant helping him develop as a pitcher. It also meant keeping him healthy. Holliday came under some criticism this spring for allowing Rodon to throw more than 120 pitches in several starts. Rodon threw 134 pitches in one game against Duke, more pitches than any major league pitcher has thrown in a game so far this season. Holliday resents the criticism, and also that none of those who expressed it bothered to call him and ask about Rodon's usage. He points out that while professional pitchers normally pitch on four or five days' rest, Rodon almost always had a full week between starts. Bleacher Report did call Holliday, who outlined Rodon's schedule, which was set up to limit his other throwing and prepare him for heavier work in his once-a-week starts. Weekly Workout Schedule Friday: Game day. Rodon normally pitches the first game of each of NC State's weekend series. He made 14 starts this season, going 6-7 with a 2.01 ERA, with 31 walks and 117 strikeouts in 98.2 innings. Saturday: No throwing at all. Early morning cardio work, with a rubdown. Sunday: No throwing at all. Another early morning (8 a.m.) cardio session, and a late-afternoon two- or three-mile jog. Monday: Stretch, run and play catch on flat ground, from 30, 60 and 90 feet. "No spinners, no changeups, just catch—C-A-T-C-H—for 15 minutes, while I ask him how he feels," Holliday said. Tuesday: Stretch, catch and long toss, 25 throws from about 150 feet. Wednesday: A 25-pitch bullpen, throwing five of each of his pitches from the windup, then two from the stretch. "And then he's done," Holliday said. Thursday: Complete day off. Friday: Game day.
  13. And the Cubs taking Reetz with the next pick: The Pick: C Jakson Reetz Baseball America rank: 62 MLB.com rank: 40 Yes, the Chicago Cubs need pitching. And yes, they already drafted a potential catching prospect in Kyle Schwarber with the No. 4 pick in the draft. However, there's a good chance that Schwarber winds up at first base or in the outfield, and this is an organization that really has nothing behind Welington Castillo at the catcher position. Jakson Reetz made a name for himself by winning MVP honors at the Perfect Game All-America Classic, and unlike Schwarber there is no question about whether or not he'll be a catcher over the long term. He brings good athleticism to the position and has all the tools to turn into a plus defensive catcher, and he should also develop into a solid hitter due to a compact, line-drive swing that could generate some power.
  14. FWIW: Bleacher reports 2nd round mock has us taking, Micheal Cederoth from San Diego State. Previous Selections 3. LHP Carlos Rodon, North Carolina State 44. RHP Spencer Adams, White County HS (Ga.) The Pick: RHP Michael Cederoth, San Diego State Baseball America rank: 45 MLB.com rank: 59 The run on college arms continues with Michael Cederoth, but the big 6'6" right-hander has worked as a reliever this spring, where he has thrived thanks to one of college baseball's best fastballs. He regularly works in the mid-90s but can dial it up to the triple digits, and while his secondary stuff is still developing, his slider is a potential out pitch. The White Sox need quality arms wherever they can get them, and after saving 20 games with a 2.28 ERA and 9.6 K/9 at San Diego State, Cederoth would be a welcome addition to their organization.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) Great, Eaton's upset the veterans again Just my observation, no idea What actually went down in the dugout.
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) What did someone just say to Alexei in the dugout? Looks like De Aza had to separate him from someone Saw that as well. Was in a commercial from 24 flipped saw his HR. I thought the way he reacted to Eaton was weired when he crossed home. Then he got into the dugout showed Alexi taking a step forward from the back of the dugout and De AZa holding him back saying something to calm him down.
  17. I'll admit I'm very naive as to this years draft. Usually I am doing a bit a research on drafts, but for whatever reason this one snuck up a bit on me. As far as the articles I have read this draft is as deep as it has been a while, ( good timing for a historically bad season last year) however before this season there was a clear consensus that the top four picks would be pitchers. Those pitchers have changed due to injury, and positive and negative starts of seasons. But from what I have read the top four players were Hoffman (who was injured), Rondon, Kolek, and Aiken. Jackson the catcher you asked about has always been the fifth and first Position player and I always asked the samething. If its a pitcher and everyday player why not take the player who has an impact everyday. As a catcher, he has an impact on every ball pitched. I'm not sure what the scouting report or the people who follow young prospects take is, but the more I read on Aiken the more I like him. As far as injury prone I definitely feel like Kolek is more of an injury worry. Most scouts say the physical side is there but mentally he struggles and they worry about his ability to repeat mechanics day in. Aiken however is a fluid easy going motion. If you look at the video attached in page one in my post and compare it to the same sites scouting report of Koleks, you may see what i am taking about. fWiw Jackson is catching in both videos. Need to read up on that kid.
  18. Unfortunately don't know much about any of these three liked Hoffman a ton before he was injured. Actually surprised the draft is only 3 weeks out. However did find this interesting comparison when reading a quick scouring report on Aiken. I think you guys may like it. "There's a ton to love about Aiken, he's a High School Lefty who 3 months ago was known most to scouts for having far advanced pitchability and control, with a middling fastball that showed promise. Then Aiken showed up in 2014 and his Fastball was no longer a middling offering in the high-80's, it was suddenly a beast he could throw low to mid 90's with an ability to rear back and unleash a 97mph Fastball on occasion. Well, now that's much more interesting and it's drawn comparisons to none other than Clayton Kershaw. Aiken is a near finished product for a High Schooler. He may add a few more pounds to a 6'4" 200 lb frame and maybe with it a mile or two on his Fastball, but mid-90's is plenty for a left hander." Clearly with a HS pitcher he's a work in progress as the rest of the scouting report touches on but a CK comparison gets me pretty giddy. http://www.thegoodphight.com/2014/4/15/560...brady-aiken-lhp
  19. HS-LHP- Brady Aiken, Cathedral Catholic HS (Calif.) Didn't know Hoffman was hurt, they have him slipping to 18 to the Nats. Here's the rest of the top 5 and a link if you want to see how the rest is mocked. 1. Astros: Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State A slow start left Rodon's status as the top pick in question, and one of the big high school pitchers below could still be Houston's choice, but here's saying the N.C. State lefty has done enough to reclaim the spot. 2. Marlins: Tyler Kolek, RHP, Shepherd HS (Texas) The Marlins love left-handed pitching, and there'd be nothing wrong with Brady Aiken here, but the size and pure stuff of Kolek is too hard to pass up. 3. White Sox: Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (Calif.) The White Sox might be in the best spot. They can just take whichever of the top three arms is available. 4. Cubs: Alex Jackson, C/OF, Rancho Bernardo HS (Calif.) This might be the first place where the injury to Hoffman is really felt. Jackson is considered by many to be the best all-around hitter in the class. 5. Twins: Nick Gordon, SS, Olympia HS (Fla.) Dee's brother and Flash's son will be able to stay at shortstop and has added strength, making him a better all-around prospect. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/2014051675655476/
  20. QUOTE (Real @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:42 AM) it just makes no sense why he would choose the sox play for a contender? No highest bidder? No huge fan base? No then you factor in s***ty weather, not west coast (if those rumors held any truth) to me it just doesn't seem likely, either the sox wanna say "Hey we tried!" or they're being trolled by Casey Close Argubaly the only real "contenders" out of the supposed "finalists" are the Dodgers. Every other team has major question marks even with the addition of Tanaka. That's why it's important to look at the future. Other than the Dodgers, I would put both the Chicago teams above the Yankees. They have a lot of age on that roster, and a lot of players coming back from injury. I think there is much more to his decision then the three factors you mentioned.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:26 AM) Hopefully the leaks start a flowing then. AZ knows something. Either Tanaka told them directly or that their bid fell way short. Hope this writer tells us the latest. IMO we are going to see a lot come out this am and afternoon. I think he makes his decision this evening or early am after midnight tonight. Not sure what to think about our chances, long no doubt. But I truly believe our FO believes we have a legitiment shot at this guy, thus until I see him sign elsewhere I like our chances.
  22. I verfied guy works for AZ MLB.com site: Baseball Source: #Dbacks no longer in running for Tanaka. Story soon on dbacks.com.
  23. [1/22/2014] Masahiro Tanaka News and Notes by Gen on Jan.22, 2014 @ 4:20 pm, under MLB Tags: Masahiro Tanaka, Rakuten Eagles Masahiro Tanaka updates from Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Tanaka used a Momoiro Clover Z themed glove manufactured Asics during workouts on Tuesday. The glove was white and silver with red, yellow, pink, green, and purple accents. [sanspo 1/22/2014] Tsuyoshi Shinjo wanted reporters to tell Tanaka that he should memorize the following two English words/phrases: "appreciate" and "good atmosphere." Shinjo apparently managed to get by with just those the two words/phrases when he first went to the United States in 2001. [sponichi 1/22/2014] US media coverage via Japanese sources: Jon Morosi tweets that Tanaka is "...expected to return to U.S. this week for physical with the team that signs him. Needs to be soon with Friday deadline." http://yakyubaka.com/
  24. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) Hahn is a f***ibg boss. I agree I really enjoy listening to him talk. It's kinda a breath of fresh air from the KW days. I also believe, Hahn thinks we have a legitiment shot at Tanaka.
  25. About Tanaka: said it is rare for a team to have a chance to lay out their future for an international or domestic FA. Told Tanaka their plan and said he had a chance to be a part of something, as the Sox think they are on the precipice of something special. Told him how the WS felt he fit into the future. Hahn said no matter the outcome, he really enjoyed the process. And he didnt want to say much out of respect for the process. IMO, I think Hahn told them he wouldn't talk about Tanaka on the show. They waited till the last few minutes to talk about it and were vague with good reason. Both Kap and Rodgers asked questions, when Rodgers did he started asking about a hypothetical Japense pitxher, and Hahn replied "the one I don't want to talk about".
