White Sox have flipped from sellers to buyers
lasttriptotulsa replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) So they can make a move to do that, but it can't be a long term move, and long term they need to figure out what the bleep they're going to do with their 3 DHs. Alex Gonzalez (currently with the Brewers) might be somewhat sensible there. Gonzalez tore his ACL. He won't be back for awhile. -
White Sox have flipped from sellers to buyers
lasttriptotulsa replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Interesting, but I think its still a little early to decide whether we are buyers or sellers. The trade deadline is two months away. A lot can happen in that time. -
QUOTE (pcullotta @ May 31, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) "Develop" into a career .254 hitter? To be fair, Crede really had developed into a solid ballplayer the latter half of '05 and through '06. After his initial back problems he was never the same. He even won the silver slugger in '06.

QUOTE (balfanman @ May 29, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) I believe I heard that Rizzo won't be called up until the end of July, that's when they get the extra year of arbitration out of him. I was thinking it was June, but not sure. I thought they had to have less the 85 days of service time or something like that in the year for it to not count towards arbitration. Thinking back to '09 we called up Beckham in early June for the same reason. I could be wrong tho.

Is this team perhaps the most fun one you've watched?
lasttriptotulsa replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This team has been fun so far, but I'll wait a couple months before making an ultimate judgement. Aside from the 2005 team, my favorite to watch was the 2000 team. That offense was scary good. I think they hit something like .285 as a team. It was cool too cause guys like Maggs, Carlos Lee and Konerko were still pretty young and making their presence known, while the Big Hurt proved to the baseball world that he wasn't done just yet. -

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) WTF? Rosenbloom... EDIT: Whoops, I see Jake already said that. Still, WTF? That's just lazy. Looks like Rosenbloom caught it. The text in the linked article and the text posted here don't match. That line was taken out of the article. -
For sure the Cubs. That team is just bad. I'm assuming a Rizzo call up in June which could help them, but they are definately rebuilding. Dempster will probably and should be traded to a contender.

Magglio Ordonez to announce retirement
lasttriptotulsa replied to cabiness42's topic in The Diamond Club
I always felt Maggs had a shot at the Hall until injuries really took hold the latter half of his career. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 24, 2012 -> 06:39 AM) Never had more than one beer at a Sox game if I was driving. There's this handy thing called the 'L' that takes people home without having to drive. I'm in favor of having two 'levels' of DUI. As it stands now (in every state I know of) someone who is .09 and someone who is .18 are both committing the exact same crime, but I think we'd all agree that the person who is .18 is much more likely to cause an injury/death and to some extent is making a much more irresponsible decision by driving. I live in WI where we have the most leniant drunk driving laws in the country and even we have a graduated system. Between .08-.12 is just and OWI. .12 plus is an OWI and and seperate ticket for driving over .12. Each around $800. Once you get to .17 its automatically required to have a blow device in your car when you get your license back. I got an OWI about 4 years ago and it really didn't cost all that much. $800 for the OWI. $200 alcohol assessment, $200 class and about $30/month insurance increase for 3 years. WI is also the only state in the country where a 1st drunk driving is not a crime. Its only a misdemeanor. They take you in and do mugshots, etc., but never even put you in a cell. All you have to do is call someone to pick you up. As lenient as they are tho, one is enough for me. I think everyone makes mistakes, but there's no excuse for getting more than one.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Yeah, I don't think it hurt us too badly, since we just kept Dunn and Viciedo in the lineup...didn't really miss a beat. May have fired up the club a bit too... I think it fired up the club, especially Beckham. I loved the locker room interview with AJ where he said Beckham had to stick up for his dad or something like that and thats why he had the play at second and hit the homer.

Things are good, not great, but legitimately good

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 20, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Even if we did have a serious run to 28-22, recall that the 2002 team started with that record and yet still sputtered to 81 wins. The 2004 team started 29-21 and ended up with 83. Let's take a wait and see attitude until mid June before we go jumping on any bandwagons. That 2004 team also lost Frank Thomas and Magglio Ordonez to season ending injuries. -

Interleague play - DH - Viciedo/Dunn - Bud Selig

QUOTE (flavum @ May 17, 2012 -> 12:21 PM) One or three. Has to be odd. Depending on how many interleague they settle on, I hope everyone plays interleague for a week and half in June, and the rest is one at a time. Odd number on Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun. Could be any number on Mon/Thur when teams have off days. I think it would be a scheduling nightmare. -

QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) What? Did I miss something? Next year the Astros move to the AL. 15 teams in each league would mean one would have to be off everyday. Since no one is gonna have off days on Fri, Sat, Sun because of attendance and such the only solution is to have one or two interleague matchups everday. -

QUOTE (59th street @ May 17, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) I think that ship has sailed but given the huge hole at 3rd base I certainly understand why it continues to come up for discussion. I want his bat in the line up everyday so we can finally confirm what many of us suspect (and pray for), that he is truly a major league hitter/run producer. Moving him to his 4th (or 5th) position is not the way to maximize his development at this point of his career. I don't think a move for the few interleague, NL park games would hurt too much. If it was a choice between Morel's glove and Tank's bat I take the bat any day of the week. -

lasttriptotulsa replied to 59th street's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) You don't lose your best hitter, you put your dh in the field somewhere if he is your best hitter. Losing the dh usually means you lose something like your sixth best hitter. For years the Sox had the 1B/DH combo of Konerko and The Big Hurt. In NL park, one of them has to sit. Then after Frank left they had the combo of Konerko/Thome. Again one of them is sitting. Losing one of Konerko/Thome/Thomas kills your lineup. -

lasttriptotulsa replied to 59th street's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've always thought that the NL had an advantage in interleague too. AL team goes to NL park, loses one of their best hitters. NL team goes to AL park, loses their worst hitter and whomever they put as DH is better than a pitcher. I suppose we better get used to seeing interleague tho cause it ain't going away and there's gonna be interleague games everyday all year next year. -
