QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) President Obama will have over 300 electoral votes.. He definitely has a legit chance. If he can carry Florida again (which is currently leaning Romney) and win Ohio, he'll get there.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) If Romney wins states like that, he is getting 300 electoral college votes. Give it up, Romney has no prayer of getting to 300.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) According to Drudge this morning, Obama and Romney are each at 49% in Wisconsin. RCP shows Obama up 2.7%. Wisconsin has gone Democrat the last 5 elections and many in the state are weary about voting for Republicans after the whole Scott Walker disaster.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) I think Obama will win with ohio. But of the options, he'll only get OH and IA. Just scraping by 270. I am not even sure he wins popular vote. Obama will win WI and MI pretty easily.

I have Obama winning it and taking OH, PA, IA, WI, NH and MI of the above choices. The popular vote will be very, very close, but Obama will win. Like many have said, whoever wins Ohio is taking this election.

Adam Dunn - Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Winner
lasttriptotulsa replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) At least Sox players can win the awards from an irrelevant source that isn't official. (Dunn in '12, Beckham's ROY award in 2009) Maybe it's not "official", but The Sporting News has been issuing this award about 40 years longer than MLB has so it's definitely relevant. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Let me put it this way... I didn't see a single person say they didn't want LeBron, Wade, and/or Bosh on the Bulls during the free agent frenzy of a few years ago. No one said anything like that until AFTER they went to Miami. I didn't say it on here, but I wanted no part of Lebron James and was hoping he wasn't choosing the Bulls. I don't know care how good he is, I can't stand that jackwagon. I wanted Wade and/or Bosh at the time, but my hatred for them is now growing too.

Young Core will help Sox compete in '13
lasttriptotulsa replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agree on Sale. If he has a similar season again next year, maybe then look into signing him to maybe a 4 year deal. That would buy out his arbitration years and 1 year of free agency. If he really is as good as it appears, they do not want to go to arbitration with him because it will be costly. -
QUOTE (forrestg @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Jake is not a #1,2, but perhaps at the low end of a # 3 starter. I think Jake didn't prove enough to me toward the end of the season to give him any more than the 2 year 22m.. We have paid him premium money for no season that he was worth his keep. I would say 22million - the buyout. I like Jake but he did complete the season although not with great success. How many #3s can you think of that throw 200+ innings with a 3.37 ERA and a 1.096 WHIP? The way he pitched this year he is at worst a #2 starter, would be the ace of many staffs. Sure he may not be the same pitcher he was 5 years ago, but something that surprised me is that his WHIP in a Sox uniform is lower than it was in a Padres uniform. He may not have the same velocity, but the dude definitely knows how to pitch.

Some of these are not correct. You said Sale was the youngest Sox lefty to win 17 games. Not true. Chris Sale won his 17th game at age 23 years 168 days - Mark Buehrle won his 17th at age 23 years 152 days. Buehrle was younger. You said Sale's 17 wins are most by a 23 yr old since Alex Fernandez's 18. Not true. Buehrle won 19 games in '02. No biggie, just a couple that caught my eye.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) What were the Pads thinking of when they gave him that deal? Blows my mind. His deal was pretty much right in line for what a Cy Young and Triple Crown winning pitcher should be making. It wasn't until he started get injured that it looked bad.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) He's basically a poor man's Adam Dunn. They are almost exactly the same age too. Johnson is a few months younger. A VERY poor man's Adam Dunn. Career .750 OPS as a 1st baseman/DH? Yuck.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) Johnson gives a good AB. For a lefty stick at the league minimum with power and the ability to take a walk, I'd like him back in whatever role. If you go nutty with the rebuilding stuff this offseason he's a fine stopgap, otherwise he's best as a bench bat who can fill in if necessary & force himself into greater playing time if he's good enough. There have been a lot of players around his age & experience level who have bounced around a while before having 2-3 good years as starters somewhere, and while unlikely, you can never say never. You really can't waste a bench spot on a guy who can only DH & play 1st. Especially in the AL.

Floyd adjustments came from Parent
lasttriptotulsa replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Floyd is a good middle of the rotation guy who has the stuff to be unhittable at times. With the price of pitching these days, he is absolutely worth the 9.5 million option the team has on him. If the team decides to part ways they could definitely trade and get something for him. I say 0% chance the team doesn't exercise his option and about a 50% on whether they keep or trade him after they exercise the option. -
I am eagerly awaiting Lillian's response to this thread.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) Glad Dunn sat out again this year or he would've had another "worst" record. Last year it was batting average and this year it was K's. He also qualified for 50% TTO: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2012/10/3...comes-milestone I really didn't care too much if he set the strikeout record. Not that big of a deal, but just as a side note Dunn did not set the lowest batting average last year. He didn't have the required PAs.

I knew this thread was gonna be here this morning. Dan Johnson is just fine as a pinch hitter/start twice a week kind of player, but he is not an everday player. There is no reason in the world to think that he finally found it in his early 30's. If he wants to prove me wrong, good for him, but I hope it isn't the Sox that give him that chance.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) I don't care about him returning as manager yet. Broadcaster is a different story. If Stoney can't stand Hawk, then bring in Ozzie. It sure seems like Loria is mad at his statements and will axe him. I read the latest story where Oz said he doesn't deserve to be fired. Why the hell would you want a guy in the booth who can barely speak english? As if our broadcasters don't get enough s*** from other fans and the media. Ozzie would be a disaster, not to mention the fact that I don't think his ego would ever let himself be a lowely broadcaster. Your man-crush on Ozzie is laughable. The guy was a mediocre at best player and a borderline bad manager who just happened to have the stars align and win a World Series despite his manageing.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 12:50 PM) this weekend, or tomorrow? that would suck for cleveland and baltimore to have the replacements and the rest fo the league get the regulars I would sure hope that the league would go with all regular refs or all replacement refs so as not to screw over the Browns and Ravens, but with the way the NFL is being run nowadays who knows. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 07:11 AM) Is that a rule change I missed? I know in college the defense can score 2 points on an opponent PAT, but I'm not aware of the defense being able to score on a PAT in the NFL. No, you are correct. That is a college thing. The only way the defense can score on a PAT in the NFL is by a fumble through the back of the endzone for a 1 pt "safety". It is a stupid rather unknown rule that has never once happened and never will. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) A defensive TD (for 2 points) on that extra point attempt would have won the game for GB Regardless, all the public b****ing they've been doing is classless, even if you will grant them the benefit of the doubt for LEAVING THE FIELD and coming back QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) What are you talking about? You cannot advance a blocked PAT or an interception or fumble recovery on a 2pt conversion in the NFL. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Lol bulls***, they left the field and just stood there for the final kick... the only reason the players went back out there is because someone in the Packers front office called down and told them to get their asses back on the field or there will be hell to pay. I will say the coach in his press conference handled it as well as you possibly can but the players were giant b****es. Oh, and yes the pass interference was blatant but more often than not the regular refs don't pull a flag out so deal with it lol. You expect them to try and block the PAT. What the hell purpose would that serve? So they only lose by one instead of two. The Seahawks left the f***ing field too and I don't see you guys calling them classless. The Green Bay Packers are one of the classiest orginizations in sports and that is a fact. To piss them off this bad, someone is doing something wrong and its pretty obvious who it is. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) The Packer players are being completely classless. I hope the Bears would not present themselves like this in a similar situation. Sherman handled himself well. The Seahawks aren't dealing with it well either. The Packers showed a tremendous amount of class by putting their pads back on and going back out for the PAT. The Seahawks showed less class after that game, than the Packers. Carroll acted like he won the f***ing Super Bowl. Many across the NFL are tweeting the same kinds of things as the Packers players so don't give me that bulls*** about them being classless. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Im aware but there were also like 4 guys besides him in the jump I'm sure one of them pushed Tate a bit b4 contact on the ball was made too.... its just a call that doesnt happen, jump ball to end the game anything goes. A little pushing and shoving is perfectly acceptable on that play, however that was not a little pushing and shoving. Shoving the guy who would have had the best play on the ball to the ground is a whole different story. It was as blatant of a PI as there has ever been. One like that needs to be called. End of story.
