  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) Report: Hornets to officially announce name change to Pelicans on Thursday I get it that the Pelican is the state bird and all, but to me that name is awful. I think Rougarou, Swamp Dogs and Bullsharks all would be better names. Rougarou would have been my choice.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) Beckham would literally have to have 0 walks and 0 doubles/triples to accomplish that OPS with the average/HRs. Actually, a .413 average over the course of a 600 at-bat season with 35 HRs would equal a slugging % of .646. So his OPS would be 1.059. Not necessarily. He could have a s*** ton of sacrifices to get the OBP down.
  3. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-don...54445--nba.html Sounds like Scal got a little tired of people doubting his skills so he sent a one on one challenge. Beat 4 guys (who had at least some skill) by a combined scored of 44-6 and then played 3 average joes 3 on 1 and dominated them too.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Would have been funnier if it was Boozer then proceeded to try and rip award away, resulting in it falling to ground and breaking with boozer tapping his chest and saying "my bad". And of course as it was falling to the floor, Boozer would yell "grab it Jo!"
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) I don't see that being the case, I think B-R is wrong here. Let's do the math, and then people can tell me if I am missing something... COMMITTED 2013: Dunn: $15M Peavy: $14.5M Danks: $14.25M (Passan was wrong here too, from what I can tell) PK14: $13.5M Rios: $12.5M Floyd: $9.5M Alexei: $7M Thornton: $5.5M Crain: $4.5M Keppinger: $3.5M Beckham: $2.975M De Aza: $2.075M Wise: $0.7M Sale: $0.5M A Sanchez: $0.5M Flowers: $0.5M Jones: $0.5M Reed: $0.5M Axelrod OR Santiago: $0.5M Veal: $0.5M Gimenez: $0.5M Quintana: $0.5M Viciedo: $0.5M That totals to $109.45M. So he's actuall off $10M, not $20M. I exaggerated apparently. Of course after he wrote that, the Sox acquired Lindstrom, so it goes up a few million. But that doesn't matter to what he wrote. PK not making 13.5 this year. I believe 6 with 1 million per for the next 7 years.
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) MLB Network is very high on the Royals. John Smoltz picked them to win the division. Kind of. They were asked to make bold, out there predictions and Smoltz said the Royals would win the division. Does he really think that they will? Probably not.
  7. QUOTE (Bubba Philips @ Jan 20, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) and Matt, unlike Myers doesn't look like he could be a member of the duck dynasty cast Who cares what he looks like as long as he can get hitters out.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 08:40 AM) Is $300 million enough to bring that stadium up to code? (Serious Q?) I've never been to Wrigley, but if it's in as bad of shape as people say it is, then that $300 million is gonna go FAST.
  9. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/50521959/ns/sports-baseball/ Renovations include more restroom facilities, expanded concourse, and the replacement of decaying steel and concrete.
  10. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 12:38 AM) Sooo if Deng misses time who's the 2nd SF? Rip is listed as 6'7" so does he move over temporarily? Vlad Rad can supposedly play SF will we see a little bit of him? The 6'6" Cook? Gotta be Butler with Cook getting some minutes off the bench. Rip has the height but doesn't have the strength to play the small forward position.
  11. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) I never watched Archer, but I'm an H. Jon Benjamin fan. Is it a serial, or can you just jump in? It has some continuity to it but its not really necessary to watch the previous seasons to enjoy it. The episodes can be watched individually just fine.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) You know what is weird, I live in sleepy hollow in a heavily wooded area, and I very rarely have outages. And when I do, if I switch to the non-hd channels, they usually are unaffected. The only time I get any problems is at the very beginning or very end of a storm, depending on which way it is going. This has always worked for me as well. New episode of Archer tonight. Any other Archer fans here?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales White Sox's lefty Chris Sale will be featured on MLB Network’s “Top 10 Right Now: Starting Pitchers" Friday at 8 p.m. (CT). Pretty impressive for a 2nd year starter to make that list.
  14. Not a real fan of the WBC and especially Sox pitchers pitching in it, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal for a 1-2 inning reliever.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) DirecTV Genie Review I thought this could be applicable given conversations around these here parts recently. Wish I could get Directv. I've got trees blocking the signal (so they say). Living in the area I do, there are no major cable providers so I'm stuck with Dish Network which sucks balls.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Man, when Montez was eating those boogers, I was laugh-retching. It was hilarious. I thought the best part was that Jet-Set didn't care that he just s*** his pants because he thought the roast was awesome.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) Workaholics is so f***ing hilarious. Last night's episode was awesome. Great to see B-Rad back.
  18. Another win for the Bulls. Really wish this team could finish out games. It sucks having 20 point leads and then just barely hanging on or losing at the end. I can't remember another team that has done that as much as this Bulls team.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Rose will have to play into that shape; Ricky Rubio is dealing with that right now. Rose won't feel right probably for a few months even after he returns, so expecting a 100% Rose before tip off of the 2013/14 season is expecting too much. Sure, Rose's work-ethic is unrivaled, which bodes well for a full recovery (and further development into an all-around beast), but there's just no way he'll hit the ground dominating. Agreed. If anyone expects Rose to be Rose right from the get go, they're kidding themselves. That being said, even if we get Rose at 80% that will be a huge boost to the Bulls. They are somehow only 3 games out of the #1 seed in the East. Not saying they're getting there, but I'm kinda impressed that they're that close without Rose.
  20. I would have to say Clinton first followed by George W. While never a fan of W's policies, he seems like he would be kind of a cool guy to hang with.
  21. Another real solid effort from Justified last night. I don't know about anybody else, but it seems that I rarely watch any shows anymore from Fox/CBS/NBC/ABC. The cable channels are the ones putting out the best programming. F/X and AMC in particular.
  22. Anybody that is choosing Konerko because of his defense needs to quit listening to Hawk because Konerko is an average at best 1b. He can scoop throws and has a solid glove but no range whatsoever. The difference between Konerko and Franks defense is nowhere near the difference between Frank and Konerkos bat. Franks career OPS+ is 156. Konerko onky had ine season his entire career that high. I love Konerko as much as anybody, but anybody that would take Konerko over Frank is dillusional or has a terrible memory because Frank is one of the top 20 offensive players to ever play. You don't give up that bat no matter how bad the defense is.
  23. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) Maybe for the regular season, but definitely not for the playoffs. As I recall, Frank was a big choker in the postseason. He never did much. In fact, I remember him not even getting a friggin' hit in all 3 games of the 2000 ALDS against the Mariners. Not even one bloop single - NADA. Needless to say, that helped the Mariners with A-Rod, Griffey Jr., and Edgar Martinez sweep the series. I'll take Konerko for the playoffs, thank you. That grand slam he hit in game 2 of the World Series was arguably the single greatest moment in the entire history of this franchise. Maybe even better than winning game 4 to end the series and jump around on the field as champions. Konerko was also hitless in that series.
  24. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) Nice synopsis! I'd say that the difference between the defensive requirements of RF and LF is based on distance to 3B, not 1B, though. Neither one is going to throw anyone out at 1B, they're theoretically equidistant from 2B and home plate, but you do need someone capable of gunning a runner out as they try and take 3rd base. From left field, it's pretty easy because you're right next to it, so you don't need someone with a strong arm. From right field, that's a pretty long distance, so you need someone with a strong arm to make runners think twice about taking third base. I think thats the point he was making. The throw from left to first would be the same distance as right to third. Because you are never making throws to first, the left fielder does not need an equally as strong arm as a right fielder because they typically have shorter throws.
  25. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) http://www.49ers.com/media-gallery/videos/...8f-7e8152d1e378 Can't wait to be at the game tomorrow.. GO 49ers!!! Hope you didn't pay too much for the ticket. I would hate to spend a bunch of money on a playoff ticket to watch my team lose.
