Sale switching Sox?
I wonder if other teams' fanbases say the same things when we propose trades...
-
Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlan
Beachy is a converted position player, so the arm troubles were predictable. Medlen has had two TJSs. I would proceed with extreme caution.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) My question is: Is Semien really that valuable? Keep seeing he could be the "center piece" to a deal and I'm sitting over here wondering if I missed something or what... Also just to clarify, Montas is the guy the Sox just got for... Dunn? Isn't he projected more as a late inning guy and not a starter? Montas was a part of the Peavy trade in 2013.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) This has happened before. I remember the window being 72 hours. This team has 72 hours to reach an extension withthe player before the trade is approved. I can't remember the players but I remember the scenarios discussed in the media. Johan Santana's Mets trade was a similar 72-hour negotiation window before the trade was final.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Well no...the Sun Times article says there is talk and it could be at the serious stage. It sounded like, at least from the article, that the SunTimes had actually tried to substantiate the rumors with their own "league sources" - which could very well be one of the posters that breaks stuff on Soxtalk....

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Perhaps not a big 5 writer does not break it through twitter, but I have not seen a case where a best friend is the first to break news by accidentally tweeting at the minor league prospect involved rather than anybody saying "Samardizajsjsa to w. sox done deal." Yea it usually/typically someone that works in the legal dept for the team(s) that leaks to a friend who leaks to twitter as "Team Source tells me Grienke to the Brewers" where then Jon Heyman "breaks" the story.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
I wouldn't make any assumptions about Beane's asking price(s) for his players. He traded the half of the A's top prospects for Holliday - then less than a year later, traded him away for nothing.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
I wonder if KW's remarks are foreshadowing the Sox making some major moves, some of which might irk the fans similar to the Carlos Lee trade.

Dodgers aggressively pursuing Alexei
The Dodgers are NOT trading Corey Seager. This would be like the White Sox trading Tim Anderson for 2 years of Alexei Ramirez if he weren't already on the team. The Dodgers want a stopgap player until Seager is ready for MLB, trading Seager for a stopgap veteran makes exactly ZERO sense.

Dodgers aggressively pursuing Alexei
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) That actually does make some sense, they seemed insistent on playing Saladino at SS a lot last year and he was doing ok there before injury. If they do move Alexei, they would need Tyler around as at least a guy to hold the position. His TJS was on the non-throwing elbow, correct?

Kenny Wiliams is excited
I kinda miss KW as GM... he always gave really good interviews.

White Sox claim Onelki Garcia: Outright Jared Mitchell
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) white sox. i wonder who got dropped? I doubt anyone else could tell you the answer without looking it up... The fact that we don't remember the player speaks volumes of that player.

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) I'd love to add JZ, but his price would be huge. single season rental too Wish they could sign him to an extension as a part of the trade.

White Sox DFA Ronald Belisario
My favorite Belisario moment was when he was still with the Dodgers. Comes in to start the 8th inning, 3 run lead... walks the first two guys on 8 pitches... hits the 3rd guy in the back. Mattingly brings in Paco Rodriguez who promptly serves up a go-ahead grand slam... Dumpster diving for bullpen assets rarely works out, Putnam being the lone exception the last few seasons.

2015's Leyson Septimo. Hooray!

White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million
I'm a little late to the thread here, but all I gotta say is, "Nicely done."
-
Russell Martin signs with Toronto, 5 years, $82.5 mill
Dioner Navarro has put up some legit numbers the last 3 seasons.

White Sox seek leadership, maybe a veteran or two
I can't believe this thread made it more than five minutes before "Konerko and Dunn are both available."
-
Sox sign Melky Cabrera
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Was really hoping to see a post by Rock or Bucket in this thread. They have both been disturbingly silent so far this offseason. Maybe they've been found out and subsequently silenced.

Kiley McDaniel / Fangraphs Top ChiSox Prospects
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) Deed is done. Complimented the piece (because it is pretty great), asked a prospect question, then put in a "P.S." at the end about the vids. You have a "radio name". You need a talk show. Someone give this man his own talk show.

Jason Castro
The other item of consideration is that there aren't many other upgrades at Catcher. There just arent a lot of guys available that are significant upgrades for the Sox. Castro is about as good as you're going to get considering the market and what is available. Grandal and Castro are the only two that would be traded by their teams. Grandal is less likely to be traded if if he is, will cost a whole lot more. If not Castro, then who else is going to provide an upgrade? If Hahn can work a deal with Houston that doesn't cost a top-10 prospect, then I think you HAVE to do it.

Jason Castro
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) If he walks 2.5% more, that's going to make up the gigantic gulf in his results between 2013 and 2014? If he draws 12 or 13 more walks he puts up and OPS closer to .830 than .650? You seem to be ignoring that his strikeout rate went up in 2014 to just shy of 30% and that his .294 BABIP shows that he really wasn't unlucky. Castro + Flowers >>>>> Flowers + Nieto

Seems like a super buy-low type deal to me. Do it.

2014 Award Nominees
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) Susan Slusser left Abreu off her top 10. So did Mike Berardino from St Paul, and Mark Whicker from LA. A writer from Houston left Victor Martinez off his top 10. Susan Slusser, Mike Berardino and Mark Whicker are clearly f***ing mindless idiots.
