  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) Especially Tanaka...that would have been as much a disaster if more more than Abreu contract has been a pleasant surprise. Yea and the day before the reports of his arm injury I had posted about how the Sox would be in first place with Tanaka splitting up Sale/Quintana in the rotation.
  2. A) He already turned down a massive contract extension to stay with his current team, a team that plays in what is likely the weakest division in the league and has a "decent chance to play for a pennant" every single season. B) He is a Scott Boras client. He will receive the max contract the free agent pitching market allows this off-season. His contact will either set the market at the beginning of the off-season or he will wait until late February to sign. C) Scherzer wants to sign with a team where he will be the "ace" and the opening day starter. Chris Sale owns this town. He's not going to sign here so he can play second fiddle. D) After the Danks contract blowing up in the Sox face (not like, OMG NUKE explosion... more like, mentos + diet pepsi) and Reinsdorf's persistent commentary about the dangers of free agent pitchers' contracts both would suggest that the Sox aren't signing any significant free agent pitchers any time soon.
  3. Conor is a doubles machine and should be hitting in an RBI spot... maybe 5th or 6th.
  4. De Aza really didnt play well in the platoon with Viciedo. He had a strong first week with 4 HR then tanked big time. Since returning to full time, he's been really good. He needs to play full time in order for him to be successful. Sox need to be thinking of that when/if they decide to tender/non-tender.
  5. Did Guerra go on the bereavement list because he's super tight with Leesman?
  6. Does Adam Lind know that there is a small animal living on his face?
  7. Imagine if Adam Dunn had OPS-ed 900 over the past 4 seasons as his contract indicated he would....
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) I just want them to call up Zaleski. He's busy with his Konerko-esk "victory tour" in AAA this season. He's gotta be like 35 by now.
  9. I moved and the Sox don't give two s***s 'bout me... so why should I give two s***s 'bout them! Seriously, I'd give ONE single s*** if they moved.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Freep Tigers ‏@freeptigers 4m Based on Ausmus press conf today, sounds like Verlander will return next Sat in Minn or have to go on DL. Too much deep fingerbanging can really mess with the ligaments and tendons in your forearm.
  11. Can't wait to watch him roll offspeed pitches back to the SS.... it'll be like the injury never happened!
  12. This article made for a good toilet read. Thanks for posting.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) My list of who I think will be called up in September Avisail Garcia (obviously) Carlos Sanchez Marcus Semien Andre Rienzo Erik Surkamp Taylor Thompson Josh Phegley Matt Davidson Andy Wilkins I wonder if Mitchell will get a look. Only reason I mention his name is aside from the very Mitchell-esk K numbers, he's been squaring it up pretty good recently, obviously, when he ISNT striking out.
  14. QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) I literally haven't said things like that since middle school, when I stopped, thought about it for a second, and realized how awful those things were to say. You clearly don't play Call of Duty online/multiplayer.
  15. Taylor Thompson probably gets another look, if not just for another warm body to absorb innings.
  16. OMG IT IS SOOOO SEXIST TO IMPLY A WOMAN PLAYING PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL AGAINST MEN IS A JOKE AND THAT SOMEHOW IT IS DEMEANING TO WOMEN EVERYWHERE INCLUDING ALL WOMEN AND EXCLUDING NO WOMEN. seriously people, get a f***ing grip.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Avi has options left, so he can just be optioned to AAA without ever rejoining the Sox, though he would still have to be placed back on the 40 at that point. That would be really dumb to waste an option on him when there are other players to send down.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Do something worthwhile with their lives, win nobel peace prize. You mean like be on vacation and play golf all the time?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) I believe it is 21, no? OOOOOHHH!! But srsly, they HAVE to reinstate him, its not like they are soooo impressed with his OF defense at AAA that they are calling him up. After 15/21 days, the team has to reinstate him, option him or return him to the DL, no? Yes?
  20. Garcia will have been on his rehab assignment for 15 days, which means that the Sox HAVE to reinstate him, correct?
  21. Lackey and Masterson have both been pitching like absolute horses*** for the Cardinals. Maybe they want Danks to complete the trifecta???
  22. AJ posting a nearly-800 OPS for the Cards.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Yeah, that was great. I remember sitting in the backseat of my Dad's company car after he and my mom picked me up at my apartment for a "family dinner" during the awkward post-college "don't give a s*** about sports, just girls" phase I went through... and my Dad had the game on the radio. I was dumbfounded at how bad Konerko's stats were... then, the bomb. Funny how you remember "your immediate environment" when things like this happened.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-163351353.html Yankees ban Kate Upton from wearing Tigers' gear at Yankees Stadium. That's just idiotic. Part of the fun of baseball is having rivalries. Taking things a BIT too seriously, there. They should worry more about how they're going to acquire Tulowitzki or Hanley Ramirez. They just want her showing up naked is all. Can't blame em.
  25. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Between Bassitt, Recchia, Dykstra, and Snodgress, Bassitt is the only one with a plus fastball, which tops out at 95 mph when he starts. If he continues to improve on his change and curve, he has a good chance of sticking as a starter. Even if he ends up in the bullpen, he can be an effective high leverage reliever, which you can't say for most of the other guys. That's why I'd put him over the others. The other thing to consider is that Bassett looks like a baseball player. He has "that" face. Baseball face.
