2014 MLB catch-all thread
Ron Washington resigns as manager of the Rangers for "personal reasons" not related to team performance. I wonder if this has to do with his cocaine issues stemming back a few years.... I hope he comes out of it 100%. He seems like a really likable person

Konerko's Farewell Tour
Greg is probably referring specifically to PK's numbers against Jimmy Gobble. Konerko was like 7/10 with 6 HR and a 2B.

Updated MLB Free Agent Power Rankings List (9/2)
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Caulfield is the king of making polls where you "choose one" and one of the options has multiple players. This is the Soxtalk equivalent to Hawk's "He's the best 2-strike, in the bottom half of an inning, bases empty, with an infield shift, inside fastball - hitter I've ever seen, Stone Pony..."

September Callups
Padres just DFA'd Troy Patton. Once a top prospect, he did pitch decently in his 7.2 IP this season. Maybe a loogy waiver claim? I wonder if he'll make it through the NL to the ChiSox thou.

Bassitt and Surkamp up, Carroll down
at least the Sox now have 2 lefties in the bullpen (to walk the ONE guy they were brought in to face)

De Aza Traded to Orioles
can someone queue up the bad slide gif?

Bassitt and Surkamp up, Carroll down
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) Wilkins, Sierra and Snodgress in the clubhouse, per Merkin Sierra would be in the clubhouse regardless. Fake DL stints likely mean the player stays with the team.

The Adam Dunn Appreciation Thread
I doubt Adam Dunn cares that you don't "appreciate" him.

Dunn traded to Athletics for Nolan Sanburn

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Punch their ticket to where? Charlotte? Both Rienzo and Carroll have had stretches of good performance in the past. It'd be nice to not have to rely on them in the rotation, but I'm sure they'll spend next season shuffling between Charlotte and Chicago in a bullpen and spot start role. Nonsense. They are both terrible. I find it hard to believe the Sox have any plans for them other than to make sure better pitchers take both spots on next year's roster.- Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers
If he pitches well, this probably punches the ticket for Rienzo and Carroll next season. That'd be something, to get that righthanded power arm balance for the rotation without the Sox diving into the deep end of the free agent market. If you'd like to congratulate him, do so here: https://twitter.com/C_Bass419- Evan Gattis
Sweet. So we'd have 33% of the lineup with no batting gloves. Now we need some pitchers that throw palmballs.- Konerko's Farewell Tour
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 08:25 AM) Plus he is really short, so it is much easier to get to PK's shoes. Now go get your shine box...- Post-Ozzie Departure Managerial Search
C'mon now. We all know RV is just keeping the seat warm for PK.- Can Nieto Possibly Be This Dumb?
He probably just thought Carroll was singing Frozen songs.- White Sox at Yankees
Gordon Beckham is emblematic of what was wrong with the Sox offense for the last 4 seasons. Tonight is a big deal. Will watch for sure.- Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) Does anyone believe a system that places this much power with the owners and almost nothing with the high school athlete is fair? Does anyone believe a system that places so much power to a "corporation" that works me 65 hours a week for a meager salary and shoddy "health insurance" while pocketing all the profits I produce for the "corporation" is fair? MLB and its owners are no different than any other Capitalism-empowered moneygrabbing machine.- Big July 2 free agent changes on the way
Two Words: INTERNATIONAL DRAFT. #problemsolved- Hahn- Deal could happen before Aug 31
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) He'll be back at some point next year but as a HUGE question mark. Is he worth a spot on the 40-man while he rehabs? Can they replace his top-10 reliever WAR via trade/FA?? At the minimum, I would think the Sox would non-tender him and then sign him to a higher-than-normal-salary minor league deal so he get's paid while rehabbing. But that is probably not realistic. Some team will give up the $$ on the hope he returns to the old 100mph Nate Jones. Players on the 60-day DL don't count against the 40-man. Derp.- Hahn- Deal could happen before Aug 31
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) If I were betting today, I'd say the only ones of those for sure that would be back are Flowers and Noesi. Nate Jones and Viciedo could go either way, although I would think long and hard about what the benefit of keeping either one is going to be moving forward. Why does everyone thing that Catcher is such a hole that needs to be filled? Tyler Flowers has been and will be just fine. He's a positive WAR player at a really tough position.- Hahn- Deal could happen before Aug 31
What about Trayce Thompson, any chance he sees MLB this September?- Is This a Playoff Team in 2015?
Fix the bullpen first... then: Add a starting pitcher (does Rodon count?) Add a leftie bat to replace Dunn (thank God!) Add a 2/3 WAR OF (not easy to do) Keep Eaton healthy for 162 (not likely) Yes, it can be done!- 8/19 Games
Didnt the Sox already say that if he gets called up he will start ~3 Sept games?- 8/19 Gamethread SOX vs. Orioles - 7:10pm CDT - CSN+
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) He should nominate everyone who he has outlasted as a critic. Jay Mariotti, Joe Cowley, etc. It is funny, they all took on Hawk, and he has outlasted them all.
