Well, I would want to see their SLG before deciding between the two, although I will say that in building a team I'd rather have a few of each than all of one or the other.

You're good for that though if I ever end up in that situation, right? -

OK, yeah, now that I reread the story I realized that they didn't have the bettor's side of the story. -

OK, then eat $500 of your profit and fly to Vegas. Or find someone in Vegas to do it for you. Seems like every message board has at least one person who lives in Vegas. -

http://espn.go.com/espn/chalk/story/_/id/1...last-second-win This guy is an idiot. All he had to do Monday was find a way to come up with as much money as he could (up to $50K) and bet it on the Eagles and he has guaranteed profit. -
I wonder how many teams have had players lead the league in both ERA and OPS in the same season, and of those what is the largest number of games said team lost that season?

Batting average does still matter, it's just not as important as we thought it was. If you have an AVG above .290, the chances are you also have a pretty decent OBP and/or SLG. Yeah, the hypothetical guy who hits .300 but it's almost all singles and never walks wouldn't be terribly valuable, but that isn't many, if any of the .300 hitters out there. You also can't fill an entire team with TTO guys. Sometimes you have runners on base and need a guy who can just get a hit.

I heard a good point mentioned this morning. Adrian Peterson and Ray McDonald cases are different in how they relate to "due process". Adrian Peterson admitted to what he did. He is just denying that what he did was criminal. The NFL doesn't really need to wait for due process. Based on his admissions, they can judge that his actions warrant disciplinary action regardless of whether or not they are determined to be criminal. Ray McDonald is denying what he is accused of. His case really does need to have due process play out, unless some kind of video evidence surfaces beforehand.

From now on, when I go to bed at halftime, I'm just going to assume that the team that is behind by 14+ points is going to win. -

What is losing? Losing is a disease . . . as contagious as polio. Losing is a disease . . . as contagious as syphilis. Losing is a disease . . . as contagious as bubonic plague. Attacking one, but infecting all. -

BYU could be an interesting test case on how strong a non-power conference team's schedule strength needs to be to get into the playoff at 12-0. No games against Top 25 teams, but opponents with current Sagarin ratings of 40, 42, 47, 55, 70 and 76. Cincinnati plays Ohio State and Miami(FL). Don't know if that is enough juice to qualify them. Marshall definitely doesn't have the schedule to get in and neither does NIU. So BYU is the only outsider that might crash the party. Best thing for them (aside from going 12-0) is for Virginia, Texas and Cal to pull some big upsets in conference play. -

Rankings before the first of October are dumb anyway. Most teams haven't played anybody good yet so it's really hard to know how good anybody is. -
Please don't get sucked in by the 21 home runs. Viciedo has a .279 OBP, and that just can't be playing in the lineup every day unless you are a catcher. The Gillaspie/Viciedo platoon is tempting, but Viciedo doesn't really have big platoon splits, so that doesn't work well either. I'm not saying he should be non-tendered, but I hope the Sox plans don't include him playing much, if at all.

If there is a team out there that wants to overpay for Alexei, then the entire trio could stay, but yeah, it's hard to imagine all four of them still here next year given the other holes that need to be filled.

They wear "unique" uniforms for the Shamrock Series games. Most people hate them but the players seem to think they are cool. So far two very "meh" defensive games sandwiching the one outstanding one. With USC and Louisville both losing today, I don't see ND getting into the playoff with a loss, and I don't see this team winning at FSU. Only four starters (if you include the kicker) in their last year of eligibility though. -
