With the off day Monday, the Sox could have made a Danks/Sale rotation swap and avoided having Danks scheduled to take the mound 3 hours before the deadline.
A Dunn trade is also likely to involve cash, though Danks would involve cash over multiple seasons and might require more suits to work out the details.
Great, and when Gomes strikes out with RISP in the 9th inning of Game 5 in the ALDS with Oakland trailing 1-0, A's fans can just start repeating their motto: "They playoffs are a crapshoot."
AL DH OPS:
Sox: .856 (2nd)
Yankees: .678 (11th)
A's: .675 (12th)
Mariners: .545 (14th)
If Dunn is not on one of these teams by the end of the day, I will be shocked. I can't imagine it would take a lot to get him, since the Sox gain little by keeping him.
EDIT: Pittsburgh and Milwaukee are 13th and 14th in the NL in 1B OPS, so they really ought to be looking at Dunn as well. His defense isn't bad enough to overcome a 150 point improvement in OPS.
If both sides are agreed upon the return player(s), I have to believe that the trade ends up getting done. I don't mind the Sox holding out until tomorrow morning for another million bucks or so, but don't think they would walk away from the deal because of it.

Well, 40 more walks a year is the difference between being Vlad Guerrero and Frank Thomas. Not that I wouldn't be satisfied with Jose Abreu becoming another Vlad Guerrero, but that doesn't mean that we can't hope for him to become another Frank Thomas.
