  1. I feel strongly that, with extremely few exceptions, there should be a limit of two teams claiming any territory. I can see Racine/Kenosha counties in Wisconsin having Cubs/Sox/Brewers I can see most of Connecticut having Yankees/Mets/Red Sox I can see some parts of Southern California having Padres/Angels/Dodgers I can see some parts of Central California having A's/Giants/Angels/Dodgers Outside of those, I can't think of any other place that needs more than two teams. Maybe the folks in Iowa can weigh in on how many fans there are of teams other than the Cubs and Sox.
  2. The thread that won't die. Even saw snow down here this morning.
  3. I personally don't give a s*** about an athlete's politics, unless he is shoving them in my face all the time.
  4. How can you not like a guy who celebrates his big win at Waffle House?
  5. I know that wild trade scenarios are the lifeblood of message boards, but there is absolutely no chance the Sox are "buyers" at the trade deadline. They are going to be "sellers", and that's only if Dunn, Beckham, and DeAza/Viciedo are productive between now and the end of June. There have been a lot of good things so far this season, but Dunn having a .934 OPS may be the best of those good things.
  6. Yeah, but outside of Abreu and Dunn, does anybody believe any of them can actually finish a season above an 800 OPS? This team is going to have an inevitable offensive slump, and if the pitching doesn't get better it will lead to a pretty bad losing streak.
  7. Yeah, if the team is still .500 in June, then the leashes start getting shorter.
  8. http://deadspin.com/jeff-francoeurs-teamma...dium=socialflow Yeah, he's in the minors now, but he had a fairly lengthy MLB career and we all know who he is so read this and laugh.
  9. Happy for Alexei, but why the f*** does any pitcher ever throw him a first pitch strike? If I were managing a team, throwing Alexei a first pitch strike would carry a $1000 fine.
  10. ND Stadium to have FieldTurf installed in time for the 2014 season.
  11. Indians lineup: Cabrera 6, Swisher 3, Kipnis 4, Santana 5, Raburn DH, Brantley 8, Gomes 2, Aviles 7, Johnson 9; Carrasco 1
  12. Sox lineup: Eaton 8, Semien 4, Gillaspie 5, Abreu 3, Dunn DH, Viciedo 9, DeAza 7, Ramirez 6, Flowers 2; Sale 1
  13. I like Bubba, but then, as a lefty myself, I am partial to lefties.
  14. Well, Phil is seeing lots of sand and trees today, and seems to be ticketed for a Friday night flight home.
  15. And that's fine, but it's ridiculous that places are part of the territory for 4, 5, and even 6 teams.
  16. Sox lineup: Eaton 8, Semien 4, Gillaspie 5, Abreu 3, Dunn DH, Viciedo 9, DeAza 7, Ramirez 6, Nieto 2; Danks 1
  17. Not to try and sound insensitive, but another negative for the Sox is that AGarcia gets a year of pre-arb service time without playing.
  18. I'm watching a parade of balls into the water at #12.
  19. CBS has announced that Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman in 2015.

  21. I've posted this before a while back, but it's worth another shot: I've worked for the Federal government nearly my entire career (almost 15 years). I really want to get out of government work and also want to move farther north. My wife's family is in Indianapolis, mine is in South Bend/Elkhart, and we've both lived in Chicago before (and love going to Sox games). Our target area to live in is essentially a triangle bounded by I-80/90, US 31, and I-65. So essentially Hammond, South Bend, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Lafayette, or anywhere near any of those places. Would consider downtown Chicago or south suburbs if it's commutable from Lake/Porter counties. At this time I'm not really willing to consider moving outside of that target area. Biggest obstacle is that government experience, especially at the mid-career level, doesn't count for much outside of government. I have experience managing call centers, but that is by no means the limit of my search. I have a lot of general management/administrative experience with a high level of analytical ability, but no real industry-specific experience. I am a quick learner and am looking to make a long-term (15-20 years) commitment to the right company, if that at all makes up for the lack of experience. There is a certain base income level that I need to have in order to continue supporting the family, but location, benefits, job security, and how much I like the company are all equally if not more important than salary. If you have any connections that have anything that even remotely sounds like a fit, I'd be very interested in hearing about it. If you are on LinkedIn and willing to connect with me, I'd appreciate that as well.
  22. The blackout rules have been in place for a long time, well before MLBEI and mlb.tv became popular. They desperately need to be revised. There is no reason to have any location be in a blackout area for more than one AL team and one NL team.* Iowa is blacked out for six teams. So is Las Vegas. And, in case you aren't familiar with the blackout rules, every team has a home (blackout) territory. Within that territory, you can only watch the games on the local channel that provides the game (CSN, WGN, WCIU). Games are blacked out on MLBEI and mlb.tv. Outside of that territory, you can only watch the games on MLBEI or mlb.tv, and the games will be blacked out on the local channel if you happen to get it. WGN is a grandfathered exception. You can get WGN games no matter where you live. One change that has helped a bit is that FOX no longer has an exclusive window every single Saturday. Some of the Saturdays are on their cable channel FS1 and they don't get exclusivity on those Saturdays. *EDIT: I had forgotten that HOU and TEX are now both AL teams. I would have an exception to allow their territories to overlap within the state of Texas.
