  1. A storm like this packing 50+ mph winds isn't going to be in any one place long enough to dump 8-9 inches of rain, but 3+ inches isn't out of the question.
  2. Unfortunately the stuff isn't supposed to get that far East until evening so I highly doubt they call it early. I fear that this thing is going to hit with force right around game time. What they should have done is decided last night to move the game up to 2pm this afternoon and give all the fans who couldn't go a chance to exchange tickets for a future game.
  3. Going to a bar a couple hundred miles either north or south of you would be a good plan.
  4. There is a high risk of severe storms, meaning that if you are in the pink area, you are almost certainly going to see 40+ mph winds and lots of lightning. Chances of hail and tornadoes are also decent. Tornado chances are highest for places that are wherever the line of storms happens to be during the hottest parts of the day, which appears to be far northwestern IL and the eastern 2/3 of Iowa.
  5. That kind of rational thought will not fly here, pal.
  6. Tornado risk just got updated. Stay the f*** away from the Quad Cities area today.
  7. Yes, I think Paulie is getting off a bit lightly this year because of his past, but there is also the fact that Paulie's contract is up this year and the Sox are on the hook for $15M for Dunn for next year, so when looking at trying to make this team into a contender in 2014 and beyond, Dunn is the bigger obstacle.
  8. I rather enjoyed the constant digs at the Mariners, who were "playing next door in front of 3,000 fans"
  9. Today's tornado risk from the Storm Prediction Center
  10. It's a playoff game, so if Kane gets a field goal, the other team still gets one possession.
  11. Comcast began sticking the NBC name on their cable tv properties when they bought NBC in 2010. This is why what was previously OLN and Versus became known as NBC Sports. It was a bit lucky for the NHL that their existing OTA and cable rights holders ended up under the same ownership so they've been able to heavily cross-promote. IndyCar, which is a lot like the NHL in terms of struggling for viewers and people having trouble finding where they can watch the races on TV, had long-term deals with ABC for the OTA rights and Versus for the cable rights and now that Versus is NBCSN they suffer from not having much cross-promotion between the networks. The day ABC/ESPN won the NBA rights from NBC was the end of hockey on ESPN. The same network is never going to have the rights to both the NHL and NBA. Yes, NBCSN is currently on a lower-tier in most cable/satellite packages and is grouped with SPEED and GOLF on the channel guide instead of with ESPN and TNT, but it's in the NHL's best interest in the long term to do what it can to create a higher demand for NBCSN and get it in the same ballpark as ESPN. Also, I think the universe of people who don't watch enough regular season games to justify having a cable package but are seriously inconvenienced by having two Cup Finals games on cable is very, very small, though it appears that one or two of them are here.
  12. Well, Keppinger has been hitting "better" than Gillaspie lately, and with Dickey pitching I don't think platoon splits mean very much like they do for other RHP.
  13. The Super Bowl most definitely attracts viewers who do not otherwise watch sports on cable. The World Series still gets a handful, but not nearly as many as they used to. I don't know a single person who is watching the NBA or NHL finals but isn't interested enough in sports to get channels like CSN or NBCSN. You could stick a couple of the NBA Finals games on ESPN and it probably wouldn't matter a whole lot.
  14. Well, if you only have rabbit ears then you can't watch the vast majority of Sox/Bulls/Hawks regular season or playoff games unless you stream them illegally online, and if you're doing that I don't see the point in complaining about having to do it two more times.
  15. Just wondering what you do have? You need CSN to see the bulk of Sox/Bulls/Hawks regular season games, and NBCSN is included in the same package as CSN for at least some providers.
  16. 1. Alejandro De Aza CF 2. Alexei Ramirez SS 3. Alex Rios RF 4. Paul Konerko 1B 5. Adam Dunn DH 6. Dayan Viciedo LF 7. Jeff Keppinger 3B 8. Gordon Beckham 2B 9. Hector Gimenez C
  17. Beginning in the Fall of 2015, NBC can start moving ND home football games to NBCSN, so you can bet the demand for the channel will go through the roof then.
  18. There is enough space between the dugout and the foul line that she shouldn't miss much. If anything, maybe a bunt hugging the 1B line and maybe the lower 1/3 of the first baseman's legs.
  19. It has something to do with the Whiting refinery being unable to run at full capacity. It has affected gas prices in most of IL and IN and parts of MI and WI. Luckily I'm far enough south that I'm still paying $3.49 for gas, but it's $3.89 in Indy and $4.09 in South Bend.
  20. I don't think Peavy or Rios are getting traded because they are both signed for 2014 and it's not in the nature of the Sox to give up on next year. Crain, Thornton, and Lindstrom are the most likely to be out the door. Konerko also if he can start hitting enough to generate any kind of demand. Also DeAza is set to make about 4-6 times as much as Danks or Wise next year so he has to show that he's significantly better than them or ship him out as well. I wouldn't just dump Viciedo but I'd certainly listen if somebody likes him enough to offer a very good prospect in return. I don't think there's value in getting rid of Dunn unless somebody is paying at least 30-40% of what he's still owed, and I don't really see that happening.
  21. I don't know if I've ever been in that exact section, but anything that close to home is a very good spot.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0,4463660.story Story in the Tribune about two people who spent phony money on real items at Wrigley Field. As opposed to the Tribune company, which for 30 years spent real money on phony players at Wrigley Field.
