Santiago vs. Axelrod
Once he's reinstated from the DL, he would have to go back on the DL in order to come off the roster and pitch in more minor league games.

Official Recruiting Thread II
If the principal is taking any action to encourage recruits to attend his alma mater, then he's defined as a booster by the NCAA regardless of whether or not he has any official ties to any booster organizations. If the kid had already signed his LOI when the principal fired the coach, then it's not a violation unless the principal made threats to do so before signing day. He's still an asshole, but not one in violation of NCAA rules.

Tuesday's game is CSN/WCIU, so no WGN for either team.

Official Recruiting Thread II
Is this a 2013 signee or a 2014 commit? Because if the firing happened before signing day, that could be considered by the NCAA to be undue influence by an FSU booster. Of course, this isn't surprising coming from a school that would employ a jackass like Bobby Bowden for 40-whatever years.

Game Thread 5/22: BOS @ SOX
If you are pitching on normal (4 days) or extra (5+ days) rest, you generally pitch a 30-50 pitch bullpen session halfway between starts. It keeps you sharp yet doesn't wear you out. If you know in advance that you are pitching on short (<4 days) rest, you skip the bullpen session. Apparently, it was right after Santiago had his bullpen session yesterday that the Sox decided to scratch Sale and pitch Santiago on short rest. So the issue isn't so much that Santiago threw 80+ pitches 4 days ago, but that he also threw 40+ pitches yesterday.

OK, you don't go and DFA somebody you may actually need in the future just to give yourself just to increase your odds of winning tonight's game by 10% or whatever.

Santiago vs. Axelrod
Axelrod has been better than anybody could have hoped for so far this season. But Santiago has been even better than that. No way you can demote Santiago (either to the pen or to AAA) with the way he's been throwing. You also can't just go with a 6-man rotation for more than a couple weeks because it leaves you a man short in the bullpen. Ideally Axelrod goes to AAA to keep starting, but the bullpen is so thin right now I'm not sure the Sox can afford to do that.

McLouth walkoff HR in the 10th for BAL--and now it doesn't matter cuz MLBN won't bother showing the Sox now that the no-hitter is gone.

There's a limit to how many days you can be in the minors for rehab before you have to come off the DL.

I think this one has to be an EF-5. The one that hit near me in Henryville was an EF-4. It hit a school directly and did not kill a single person inside the building and only a few had minor injuries. This tornado completely leveled a school and killed at least 7. A steel-reinforced concrete school is about the safest place you can possibly be during a tornado and it still wasn't good enough in this case. There's nothing any amount of government money for the NWS or any other agency can do about it. It's a freak thing that may not happen again for 100 years. Now, I did see video of some mangled cars on an interstate. Those people are f***ing morons for driving right into the path of the tornado.- Game Thread 5/20: BOS @ SOX
