  1. In State College, Joe Paterno was the king. If he wanted something done about it, something would have been done about it.
  2. Not just failing to report it to the police, but failing to take other steps to prevent this from continuing in the form of letting the guy remain involved with the program. Sometimes people take the right action for the wrong reason. That doesn't mean it's not still the right action. If you hate Hitler because he had a moustache, you're an idiot, but it's still a good thing that you hate Hitler. I believe it will make more people report child molesting cases, and it's really easy for you to go making that claim since we'll likely never see statistics telling us the percentage of child sex crimes that were reported because of awareness caused by the Sandusky-Paterno scandal.
  3. No matter how few hot women you think your school has, I guarantee you ND has fewer.
  4. If nothing else, the one good thing the firing of Paterno might do is to send a wake-up call to the rest of the country as to how important it is to take any kind of child-sex allegation very seriously and not to stick your head in the sand.
  5. 1) Sandusky's fate is in the legal system and no amount of media/public attention/scrutiny is going to affect that. Media/public attention/scrutiny most certainly plays a role in Paterno's fate. 2) Being in the legal system, Sandusky's fate will be determined at a snail's pace. Paterno's fate can be decided within a couple days. So yes, there are a couple good reasons why Paterno is the bigger story right now. It doesn't mean that what he did was worse.
  6. I guess the only thing I would say is that the players on the 2011 Penn State team bear no guilt in this, and taking two coaches away in the middle of a season damages their chances at a Big Ten championship and a chance to go to a BCS game, which is not fair to them. Plus, firing Paterno and McQueary right now is only symbolic and really doesn't help the victims any. A better option might be to strip Paterno of any honors he might have (honorary degrees, professor emeritus, name on buildings/streets, etc.), and make sure that McQueary never works in football again.
  7. If anybody ever tells you that's why they went to ND, you know they're lying.
  8. The problem is that there are different parts of the audience who want different things. You have the majority who are casual fans and only have 2 hours/week to invest and want to see all the action they can in those two hours. Then you have hardcore fans who want to see every hand, because you get to see actual poker being played rather than just a bunch of all-in/call coinflip hands that result in either a double-up or an elimination. ESPN is trying to do more to cater to both groups, though if you didn't read any of the poker content on their website and just had your DVR set to tape all the episodes on ESPN, you ended up with a mixture of the live and edited play and probably didn't understand why.
  9. To me, it's not just about the title shot. It's about whether or not I would enjoy living in a particular city, liking the manager/GM/coaches/staff, liking the players, stuff like that. My situation is on a much smaller scale, but I moved from Chicago to the East Coast for a 20% raise and then took a 10% pay cut to move back to Indiana because I hated living out there so much. Javy Vazquez has taken less money than he could get in his last couple deals to ensure that he stays in the Eastern half of the country with convenient travel to PR.
  10. Sunday beginning at 3:30 pm, ESPN2 aired the play from 9 players down to 3 on a 15-minute delay with hole cards shown at the completion of each hand. It ended around 1:30 a.m. Last night beginning at 9:00 pm, ESPN aired the play from 3 players down to a winner on the same 15-minute delay. This just ended a couple hours ago. At some point in the future (no date announced yet), they are going to air the traditional 2-hour edited episode that shows the entire final table from 9 players down to the winner. The German dude beat out the Czech dude for the title, with Americans finishing 3rd-5th.
  11. The grad student is now a full-time coach at PSU, and yes, he should resign. Not only did he not call the police, he didn't try to stop what was happening. If I see you raping a minor, you're going to have to knock me unconscious before you're going to be able to finish.
  12. Without looking at the schedule, I'm thinking that at least one of the teams in each of those matchups might already be scheduled for the maximum allowable primetime games.
  13. Not in any way trying to equate Brian Kelly's negligence resulting in a student death with what Sandusky did, but I kinda feel the same way. I want Notre Dame's players, students, and alumni to have a championship team, but I really don't want Kelly to personally have that kind of success.
  14. I think it would be a loss either way, but I'd almost rather catch the Packers in the divisional round after they've had a bye than the championship round. I haven't looked up the actual numbers, but it seems that #1 seeds lose more often in that round than the championship round.
  15. Both wildcards from the same division happened twice in 2007 and once in 2006. It can happen, especially when you have three strong teams in the same division as one really weak team. Dallas is the biggest threat, because the Bears don't play them and don't control the tiebreaker with them. Having already secured wins against Atlanta, Tampa, and Philly makes the scenario more likely, since those teams probably have to get to 11 wins to beat out the Bears, and honestly, I think the Bears and Lions can both win 11 games.
  16. No, there's no chance of that. The two wildcards never play each other in the first round. The third and fourth best division winners, which are going to be New Orleans and New York in some order, will host the two wild cards, which will be Detroit and Chicago. Green Bay and San Fran will have the byes.
  17. At least you live in the Central time zone. It sucks even worse for those of us on Eastern time.
  18. Now that the Bears have the tiebreaker edge over ATL, TB, and PHI, they really should be fine getting in at 10-6. I figure there will be five games where the Bears are favored (SD, KC, @DEN, SEA, @MIN) so they may not even have to beat Detroit to make it in, especially since the game at Oakland should be winnable as well.
  19. Little Bighorn in Montana is an interesting historical site. Four Corners is neat if you're going that far south. Arches National Park near Moab, Utah, is a good one too. Of course there's a lot to see/do in the Denver area if you don't mind making a city part of your trip.
  20. Not mine. I have males, females, animals, cars, and buildings.
  21. $50 on the Bears to cover +9 $45 on the Bears to win at 3:1 Glad I didn't chicken out on the second one.
  22. Conrad Murray found guilty of involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson.
  23. Wow, I forgot about video games. I had movies, TV, books, and musical theater, but no video games.
  24. That's not surprising. First of all, getting two safeties in a game is pretty rare, let alone two in a quarter. Secondly, you have to have an offense that is bad enough to not even manage a field goal after the other team has to kickoff to you from the 20 twice.
  25. Just did my list, and I'll be shocked if more than half of my entries are on anybody else's list.
