You forgot: Ate contaminated beef from Mexico

That's not being arrogrant or being an asshole--it's using a poor recruiting strategy.

When you're down by 2 with under a minute left, on the 10-yard line, with a kicker who is 12-for-12 and you call a pass play, yes, you are a lousy coach.

Yes, Marion Barber is a complete moron for running out of bounds, but why are the Bears running plays in that situation anyway? Take a knee three times and by the time you get off a punt, Denver has about 20 seconds left with no timeouts. Seems like that's at least a 99.9% winning strategy and eliminated the possibility of a fumble or a clock stoppage. -
No, you're not mistaken. The West Virginia/Virginia split was allowed because Virginia had seceded from the union, so technically a US state was not being split. If for no other reason, no state-splitting will happen because the result would be bad for one party or the other and that party would never allow it to happen. I am, however, fully in favor of splitting Cook County into three parts: 1) Chicago city, 2) Suburbs north of Eisenhower, 3) Suburbs south of Eisenhower Then, with the Chicago city part, you just have a city government and no county government.

Or, if there's somebody you really don't like, you can sign them up to be Carlos Quentin for a day and get hammered by a 95 mph fastball.

Have a Rockford night/Peoria night/Champaign night/Indianapolis night/South Bend night, where you have packages that include round-trip bus ride plus ticket plus food.

Yes, twice. Couldn't have been nicer.

OK, so has anybody here actually met him, or is everybody just basing their opinions on hearsay?

If ND gets a couple decent recruits, they get rated as a top ten class because it sells magazines. Charlie was good at getting offensive skill players. He couldn't recruit offensive linemen or defensive players worth anything at all.
-
All of the old ND alums hated him because Charlie chose to spend a lot of time in the community, especially with disadvantaged kids, instead of schmoozing with a bunch of rich assholes who think they're entitled to everything in the world. Those people are why the rest of the country hates ND. If Kansas has any alums like that, they're probably drooling all over Bill Self and will leave Charlie alone.

He is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Unfortunately, I think he's too nice to be a college head coach because he's not cutthroat enough to succeed at recruiting, and if he couldn't succeed at recruiting at ND, I have a hard time seeing him do it well at Kansas. If he does find some way to get good players, especially on offense, he sure will coach them up to perform on the field. I think his calling in life is to be an NFL offensive coordinator, and I have no idea why he didn't just stick with that once things didn't work out at ND. I do like to remind my Michigan friends that Tom Brady has won zero Super Bowls without his ND offensive coordinator.

I hate Gottlieb because he accused me of being anti-Semitic -
1) How exactly does society benefit from two people being married instead of single? 2) With the divorce rate what it is, if there really is a societal benefit to being married, the tax breaks don't seem to be enough of an incentive.
-
Yes, I think DINKs should pay the same rate as single folks. Because children grow up to be adults who get jobs and contribute to the economy. I don't see how this shift in policy is going to create fewer households with two parents. Do you really think there are a bunch of couples with kids who stay together just for the tax breaks that come with being married??

No other team was in a position to trade Nestor Molina to the Sox.

Snapshot Poll: Your Vote for President

Other. I am writing in Mitch Daniels in both the primary and general election. First, as a message to the other GOP candidates that they suck, and secondly as a message to Mitch that I really want him to run in 2016. -
I don't see what that statement has to do with what I said.
-
I'm all for eliminating any and all tax/financial benefits that are attached to marriage and increase the tax/financial benefits that go to people with dependents. I don't care how long you have been with your man/woman, if you don't have kids together, you don't deserve a dime more in benefits than single people.

If there is an effect on their pay, it isn't enough to affect any decisions about adding them to the 40. The main consequences of adding a player to the 40 is that you start their option years. Somebody added to the 40 right now can only play in the minors through 2014. Also, once you're added to the 40 you can't be removed without being placed on waivers, at which point any team can claim him. Then the claiming team only has to keep him on their 40 and not in the majors. By leaving him open to the Rule V draft, the team taking him has to keep him on the majors roster the entire season to keep him.

Sox get $50K from the Twins, right? If only Mark had waited one more day, the Sox could have improved their offer.

None I can think of who have earned a billion in their careers based on salary/winnings from their sport, but when you throw in endorsements, certainly guys like Tiger, MJ and probably some Euro soccer players have earned a billion during their careers.

Let me guess: 1) Sometime in the past year, Keith Law talked about how overrated Doyle is. 2) Sometime in the next couple days, Keith Law will talk about how awesome Doyle is and how dumb the Sox were to leave him unprotected.

Me too. In addition to Dark Helmet, I had the Sheriff of Rottingham and Hedley Lamarr on my list.
