  1. Lots of talk about Sale vs the Jays lineup, but the Sox have a .573 OPS vs LHP this season. Just forget for a moment Buehrle's past ties to the Sox. He's the exact prototype of the pitcher the Sox are least capable of hitting.
  2. USA are now the current holders of the World Championship in all of the following women's sports: Soccer Hockey Basketball Gymnastics Indoor Volleyball
  3. A draw would be a subpar result playing at home against anybody in that group.
  4. For once in my life, I wish the Sox were an NL team. I'd love to see these two try to hit off each other.
  5. Today is the one day off between the end of the women's WC and the men's Gold Cup. I know you think my expectations are too high, but I'll be disappointed at anything less than six wins for the US.
  6. Not anything male English players are going to have to worry about anytime soon.
  7. That's what happens when your country drives on the wrong side of the road--you get confused and kick the ball into the wrong goal.
  8. Before the US got the gift PK, one of the German players should have gotten her second yellow, and Alex Morgan got hauled down in the box, so I don't feel at all bad about the US getting that break.
  9. If the governor can't get the legislature to vote to take down the flag, then all she really needs to do is publicly state that she'll pardon anybody who does this.
  10. I didn't get fired for being fat, but I got denied a promotion. My boss flat out told me that I didn't get a promotion because fat people are too lazy to succeed at the next level.
  11. I think there's a fine line here. A statue in a public building is interpreted by the general public as honoring the person, not as a figure in history who may have done really good or really bad things. Clearly these people need to remain a part of our public conscience within the context of the study of history, but putting a statue of them up in a public place goes beyond that. I do find it very ironic that Washington and Jefferson get free passes though. Somehow owning slaves in 1790 isn't as bad as owning slaves in 1860. A few years back I went to Charlottesville for a week for training, and one of the co-workers who went with me is black. He was not in a very good mood after the trip to and tour of Monticello, and I don't blame him.
  12. Single people adopt children now, and wills handle death-related matters.
  13. It's silly now because those things are already in existence. I'm not actually advocating eliminating the existence in marriage at the Federal level because it's pretty much impossible now, but it really never should have been a Federal thing to begin with. The tax stuff is easy to fix in other ways, and don't get me started on the massive abuses of the immigration and immunity protections for spouses that occur.
  14. That can of worms got blown wide open in January of 1973 and is probably never changing.
  15. I've been saying this for a long time. There should be no government recognition of marriage. People can enter into whatever legal contracts they want that provide any or all of the arrangements that come automatically with a marriage.
  16. All I will say is this: What people won today was the right to obtain a piece of paper. I don't begrudge them that right, but a marriage is a relationship that goes far beyond and is not defined by that piece of paper. I would encourage everybody who spent so much time and effort on both sides of this issue to refocus that time and effort into educating themselves about and working on economic and national security issues that will have a much bigger impact on everybody's well-being than a piece of paper.
  17. Just came down. Immediately legal in all 50 states. Haven't seen the breakdown on the vote yet. EDIT: It was 5-4, with the obvious 4 dissenting.
  18. Yeah, I have about a dozen friends who work at Humana HQ wetting themselves right about now.
  19. Quick, say stuff like this about the other players!
  20. There are 13 position players on the roster. 11 of them shouldn't be playing, but you can only have four of them not playing at any given time.
  21. Any Federal employee saw virtually no change in their coverage due to Obamacare (unless they voluntarily changed plans).
  22. Let me know if you want any other recommendations for Louisville.
