  1. While it's a terrible way to have to get there, I think this incident might do more to help race relations than any of the other stuff that has happened recently. For this reason: These murders were 100% indisputably [though some idiots are still trying to dispute it] racially motivated. The string of white-cop-shoots-black-guy incidents were all immediately portrayed as being racially motivated without any evidence or justification. In some cases, it was pretty clear that the shootings were justified, and in the cases where the shootings were of questionable justification or clearly not justified, there still isn't any evidence that there was racial motivation as opposed to bad judgment [that should still be prosecuted]. We reached this "crying wolf" point where people got tired of hearing the race card getting played every single time a white person killed a black person. It actually did more to hurt than help race relations because all it did was add fuel to the fire of the hate groups. Now we have the tragedy in Charleston that is looking like it is becoming something that starts uniting people rather than dividing them. Confederate flags are disappearing at a rapid pace. Conservative politicians are returning donations from fringe groups. Racism is a real problem, but so is race-baiting, and one cannot go away as long as the other is still around.
  2. Yes, you win the bonus points.
  3. Bonus points if you can identify what the picture below is from:
  4. Just saw a story come across that Wal-Mart is going to stop selling Confederate Battle Flags.
  5. It's pretty clear that the teams aren't used to playing on the faster turf surface and are having a hard time judging the right touch on longer passes.
  6. China is the lowest-ranked of the 9 remaining teams. It's almost better to lose Rapinoe now then have her carry that yellow card into the China game and risk having to miss the Germany game.
  7. That ERA is about 6.92 higher than it needs to be for him to win with this offense.
  8. My wife and I haven't been to Vegas since before our kids were born. Hoping to make it there next summer. Would love to play in a WSOP event. Wife would probably not be into visiting the Spearmint Rhino.
  9. That's the opposite half of the bracket from the US, and that half still has Japan, England and Canada so Brazil was hardly the favorite to get through to the final anyway.
  10. Not immediately job-related, but I did pass my PMP exam last week and am now certified.
  11. Apparently the entire team missed the Rays series.
  12. Profit is only a tiny portion of the measure of competency for a sports franchise. If your only motivation is profit, then owning a sports team is a terrible investment. Yes, you need to make a little bit of money, or at least not lose a bunch, but the primary measure of competency for an owner of a sports franchise is the performance of the team.
  13. So which of these is most likely the truth: A) Astros are the only team Cardinals attempted to hack B) Cardinals attempted to hack several teams but were only successful with the Astros C) Cardinals successfully hacked several teams but Astros are the only one we know about right now
  14. I meant that one of the most incompetent owners in all of sports died, but yeah, that too.
  15. Something pretty significant happened to the franchise between then and 2010.
  16. I admit I don't watch a ton of soccer, but the most I've ever seen is 6.
  17. Halas, Jackson, Q. I'd probably get 10 or so down the list before I get to anybody from baseball. I'd probably put Bob Bradley ahead of any of the baseball guys.
  18. My mother-in-law does this all the time. She pretty much constantly has a shelter dog that she is fostering. She isn't in your area to help you out, but I thought I'd throw that out there to encourage anybody else considering it.
  19. In Louisville, an unarmed black man was shot and killed by a white police officer while being attacked with a flag pole. No fewer than three eyewitnesses swore up and down that the victim was not attacking the officer with the pole, was only holding it, and was at least ten feet away from the officer when shot. Surveillance video was released showing the victim within three feet of the cop, swinging at him with the pole in a blow that landed just as the cop was shooting him. Fortunately, the Louisville police have a pretty decent relationship with the black community, and the three race-baiting liars, who deserve to be locked up in prison, were not successful in starting the kind of rioting that occurred elsewhere.
  20. The offer the Sox would need to get to justify giving up the comp pick they would get >>>>>>> the offer any sane team would make to get Jeff for half a season.
  21. I've never even heard of such a thing as 9 minutes of stoppage time.
  22. And even if they don't win, they get a playoff against the winner for the spot by virtue of winning the 2013 Gold Cup. Should be academic though. US has no excuse not to win.
  23. The big problem with Copa always has been and always will be that the invited teams (Mexico) can't force clubs to release players. Don't know Brazil's excuse though.
  24. If Mike Brown was murdered, then every gun death in this country is a murder and there is no such thing as a self-defense justification, cop or otherwise.
