  1. Notre Dame QBs have won 5 Super Bowls, Vanderbilt QBs have won zero. Clearly Clausen is the way to go.
  2. If Carolina and Atlanta tie, Carolina wins the division at 6-8-2
  3. Ok, fine. Boston wants Chris Sale? Sale for Tom Brady.
  4. I would but I don't have a passport.
  5. Speaking of Christmas Vacation, last Saturday I was watching College Gameday live from the Army-Navy game and one of the signs that somebody got on camera was, "Is Rusty still in the Navy?" I laughed really hard for that one. Well done.
  6. I always figured that living in North Dakota proved how white you really are.
  7. I know the Bears are bad, but are they so bad that they've been demoted to college football?
  8. There are three numbers in play: 1) What he can get on the open market 2) What he would take to stay with the Sox 3) What the Sox would offer to keep him I think it's safe to say that 1 >> 3. The question is how close 2 is to 3. It's pretty easy to argue that if you're already financially set for life and you really love living in Chicago, you can turn down $10M to stay there. It's also pretty easy to argue that $10M is a s***load of money no matter how much you make and worth moving for.
  9. Anybody who is or has been a hiring manager: If you regularly do thorough or semi-thorough internet research on job applicants, I am looking for somebody to do one on me so I can get feedback on what things are out there on me that might be red flags to potential employers. If you are willing to do this, please PM me and let me know exactly what personal info of mine that you need.
  10. Which is about the same as what I think of Andy Wilkins.
  11. Wife brag: as of this very moment, my wife is now a college graduate! She has completed an associate's degree in respiratory therapy. Just judging from everybody's posts, I suspect that nearly all of us who have college degrees were fortunate enough to be able to obtain them before acquiring the responsibilities of a spouse and/or children (myself included). My wife started this process when our children were 3 and 2. I don't think I have the discipline required to be able to get a degree under those circumstances.
  12. If you take an action that causes the resulting headline to make people think it is a story from The Onion, you may want to reconsider your action.
  13. I went to espn.com and looked up individual hitting stats for 2014, then played with the minimum PA requirement until it returned 30 lines.
  14. Also they may not have been all that confident in getting Kottaras signed back when they had to decide whether or not to claim Brantly.
  15. I'm guessing all catchers. I just looked up the 30 catchers who got the most PA as catchers in 2014, and Flowers was 21st in OPS at .693. The median for those 30 players was .718.
  16. Kottaras is the newest Sox signing.
  17. Well, not literally now as in December 18, but they can option him to Charlotte in March.
  18. Abreu + LaRoche should be enough to cover 162 games at 1B. If one of them needs a day off the other can play 1B and then you can have anybody DH. Beyond that, Gillaspie has played a little bit of 1B, and whatever backup infielder the Sox have, whether that be Saladino, Sanchez, LGarcia or somebody else not already in the organization, should be able to handle 1B as well.
  19. Nothing makes someone 40 feel old quite like someone who is 24 talking about the younger generation.
  20. Well, they weren't the last time the Cubs won the World Series #1908jokes
  21. Bucket is a pretty good source of information so unless he comes on here and tells us that there was even the slightest negotiation with Boston over Sale, I'm not buying it.
  22. I think this is backwards thinking. A team fails to meet expectations because its best players aren't meeting their potential, not because their worst players aren't meeting their potential. If Sale, Samardzija, Q, Abreu, Alexei, Eaton, Melky, Robertson and Duke collectively meet their expectations, this team will succeed even if Gillaspie doesn't meet his.
  23. Given the expectation that the 3 starting outfielders will pretty much be everyday starters, Danks makes much more sense for the role of 4th OF than Viciedo, especially given the salary difference. Now, if you have a crystal ball and know in advance that Melky or Avi are going to require significant DL time, then I'd rather have Viciedo out there starting 15+ games. Of course, if Eaton is the one who ends up with the DL time, you're much better off having Danks than Viciedo.
