white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) They can also afford Max Scherezer, that doesn't make signing him financially prudent. Except they dont really need a Max Scherzer. They need relief pitching in the worst way and it seems they understand they have to put funds that way. How much do you want to bet that when they sign a relief pitcher it's going to be a hefty sum of money for over 2 years?

white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) You almost invariably overpay for the top guys in the reliever market, but there are always great values just after that first tier Sure and obviously getting more than one reliever is probably in the works. I think if they dont sign Miller it wont be for a lack of trying. I just dont think they'll try what they did last year again.

white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) The Sox are not an organization that can afford to pay for Andrew Miller types. I trust Hahn to act accordingly. Except they can afford it

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) That is my question. Suppose the idea that we have 40 million is right. Suppose we offer $25 million to Moncada, and win. That gives us $50 million in payments and penalties. Are people OK with forgetting about the free agent market to spend that kind of money on Moncada? Remember he can 't sign a major league deal, so I don't believe you can spread that money out like a normal dea. See that's a really good question and the answer for me is no

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 11:37 PM) He could decide to sign with the Cubs and sign after next year's signing period starts. I think the chance of that happening is near zero

Josh Johnson?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Speculation is he's down to the $3-5 million range plus incentives. I'd prefer to give that deal to Brett Anderson over Johnson and Floyd. Or Zito, haha. Hah I saw the Zito news the other day. Signing Brett Anderson would be nice but it wouldnt surprise me if Josh Johnson was one of the guys we were talking to. Would have been better if he wasnt coming off major surgery though.

Josh Johnson?
Heard Josh Johnson is talking to 5-6 teams. Nothing imminent, but the Padres remain his first choice. https://twitter.com/dennistlin/status/533762664841744384 Pretty obvious why the Padres would be his first choice. But he might be a nice buy low guy for us.

Guess the first offseason trade
Yeah it seems like finding a started is definitely on their list of things to do. I doubt they have Noesi pegged as the #3. Getting what we got from him this past season was reward enough. Let's not push it.

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) What's OFAC and how long does clearance usually take? Office of Foreign Assets Control It'll probably take 60-90 days

Jason Castro
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) I'm not saying he wouldn't be more valuable than Flowers, just that it's not worth trading anything particularly useful for that upgrade since it wouldn't be very big. Who were you thinking about? More than likely they'll want some of our infield prospects
-
Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
It's probably going to take a while before he gets cleared
-
Jason Castro
I want to know what high means as far as players wanted.

Yasmany Thomas Signs with AZ Dbacks
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Doesn't necessarily mean he would want to play for a losing team and in that ballpark.. You would think after seeing the success of Abreu he would want to come here or a hitter's friendly park.. But it is probably all about the money with him and his agent Dont get me wrong I agree with all of that...but the show some pretty serious interest..who knows how much they offered.

Yasmany Thomas Signs with AZ Dbacks
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Why would any hitter go to the Padres? If they do get him they must have offered him a lot more money and a starting position They met him with him I think 3 times. They seem pretty interested
-
Yasmany Thomas Signs with AZ Dbacks
I'll guess the Padres. But let us not forget...we didnt hear anything about Jose Abreu until he was close to signing. There was some speculation at first that we would be involved but nothing concrete. I dont think it will be us but it wouldnt be that surprising.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) Rather sign three LHRP's for that money and see what you can get to stick. You seriously want to try that again?

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
You know I would be pissed as a Tigers fan looking at that. Cool win now...but good lord the next 5-10 years are going to absolutely suck
-
Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
The Tigers owe Verlander,Martinez and Cabrera 78 million in 2018. They got about 2-3 years before all hell breaks loose.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
Good very good

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) i am being perfectly honest here. would that be a fair deal? i am very guilty of over valuing the sox players and prospects. Yes it's absolutely fair. Keep in mind I've conferred with many other outsiders(of both teams) on this issue. Alexei's value should be high.
-
Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
You just wait for the Mets to offer Wheeler straight up and you take it

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
I mean this seems like the Martinez catch all...so if someone want's to make another thread that's cool
