QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) 3 years team control over Humber is good value for a team not planning on extending the QO, especially when the player is holding up deals with his 10-5 rights and the Dodgers are lowballing the Cubs. I'd offer that, or maybe expand it to include a lefty and/or a utility player. Dumpster > Humber might net us an extra 1-2 wins over the season, plus give us another, more dependable arm to pick from when (not if) we get to the playoffs. That said, it's been on the radio that Dumpster doesn't want to come here. That's pretty dumb if true, but whatever. Edit: I like Santiago, but I think his future is going to be as a starter and he's probably out of the picture here. I'd stick Humber + Santiago out there and see what Theo thinks as far as the framework for a Dempster deal, with maybe another piece coming back too. I'd even go so far as to offer something a little better for Soriano and a bunch of money back. Assuming we could get pretty much his entire contract eaten in the deal, I'd surrender one of our questionmarked young OFs in exchange for a 4th OF/secret weapon PH/extra DH when PK or Dunn needs the day off. He's an AL player anyway. Not sure that's very realistic though as the Cubs probably want a nicer prospect if they're going to be eating so much cash. Are we 100% sure that Dempster wouldn't be coming here. He could just be saying the 'politically correct' thing to say while being a northslider. And if Dempster isn't happy with northslider management, then maybe he would be more inclined to come here. Could always make a three team trade if that would work better. If the little bears are looking for something that we don't have right now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Be honest...does anyone really want Liriano signed to a multi year deal? I'd gamble on him for next year if the price was in the 7 figure range, but would anyone commit 3/$30 to a guy who has had an ERA above 5 three of the last 4 years? Maybe. Have to see what he does now with the White Sox and Cooper. This guy has talent. Still striking out over a batter an inning. I heard that is BABIP is high and his gets hitters to hit a nice amount of ground balls.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) i was listening to the score and they said hes going through a divorce , wonder if that has affected anything;where he wants to go Maybe. His daughter has an illness also if I remember. Maybe likes the doctors or medical care here. Cannot see why else he wouldn't jump on these deals to try to win a ring. Pretty much 24-25 hours until trading deadline.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) That's just not true. The only one they are desperate to trade is Dempster because they could actually get something for him, but the time is running short. They can wait until the winter to get rid of Garza, and Reed Johnson isn't going to net them anything of significance. I don't know. What do they gain by waiting? And these guys who have no future with the cuBS deserve a chance to be with a contending team. Also there is no reason why the White Sox and the Northsliders cannot be trade partners. Different divisions, different leagues. As for Dempster, he controls whether he gets traded. He can NO, NO, NO until the deadline ends. Thus, his trade value is going down as teams don't want to wait. Guess what? Pretty soon their won't be any suitors for Dempster unless KW gets involved. That way Dempster doesn't have to move away from Dempster Street.
-
He pretty much could steal somebody from the cuBS right now. They are desperate to sell and KW doesn't have to buy right now but could. How about Matt Garza if KW felt confident that he could back soon and his injury isn't serious? Definitely would be buying low on him. A Reed Johnson? A Marmol if Coop felt like he could fix him?
-
He used to be a cuBS fan favorite. But now Dempster is turning into a Dumpster. haha@ Lovin' it. If he wants to stay in Chicago maybe White Sox can get him for Rey Olmedo.
-
It would be nice to get Sweeney. However, we would have to give up something and Ventura barely plays his bench. And rosters expand in about a month. Going to be able to bring up a Johnson, Jackson, or Mitchell for some more OF depth. Jordan Dunks for about a month should provide enough backup OF coverage. Really need a guy who can backup 3B and SS right now. Of course Uribe would be great. And since Uribe could also backup 2nd, then Orlando Odawg could be replaced.
-
Heck, good for Juan. He deserves some more playoff games. He must have played for Dusty in his "We Trusty" cuBS era. Probably 20-06.

No way they trade Masterson to the White Sox. I wonder if they would trade them to the Reds. Do they have a big rivalry against the Reds in Ohio? Hope not. Rather see Masterson in the NL then with the Rangers.

Might be the best time to put Chris Sale on the 15 dl for arm fatigue. Then do the same for Peavy when Sale would come back. Then you keep a five man rotation through August and get plenty of rest for your two most important starters. After rosters expand there will be a lot of flexibility with 6 starters already and maybe throw in an Axelrod and/or Castro start. And September could be time to give Quintana some rest. Should be able now to devise some strategies to keep our starters fresh but not overused. I think that the White Sox have been doing a pretty good job at this so far. Especially for Chris Sale.

Don't see how we can trade Floyd right now. I think that he will be okay down the stretch. He did have some days off which probably should help him.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:43 AM) This. I will not get my hopes up that he can be anynear the Youkilis of what is now several seasons ago, I know first hand that age can be a b****. I just hope that he has somewhat of a resurgence and is not now permanently at the Morel / Hudson level. I would be happy if Youkilis could hit 230 - 240ish, take a few walks, and play somewhere around average defense. That's a significant improvement over what we've had over at 3rd base in a long time. Anything better than that would be gravy. Yakkity Yack. Youk can do it. Newbie Youk, New Youk.

That is what she said. and that is what her girlfriends said. New Youk, New York.
