QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) HOw many times are there threads about "hot chicks" or a "hot chick contest" or someone says "damn. I'd do her"? A LOT. I make a comment about Palin and "OMG! HOW SEXIST!" I'd say we'd definitely cut down on those. Remember this is soxtalk.com not sextalk.com.

Free Willy. I was bout 6 or 7 though.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) Saw a crazy stat about Ben in the last Steelers game. Since 2006, several teams were tied with giving up 66 sacks for the second most in the league. Number one was Ben with 116 I believe over that time. He moves around a lot and holds the ball much longer than any other QB in the league. Your offensive line hasn't been very good though this season IIRC though, so that may have something to do with it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Dunn, you should get as Shipps and wear his cool glasses. Oh wait, you didn't want his cool glasses and left them at Scalises place. Ungrateful Aussies. I actually need a new pair of glasses, so if you could get him to ship those over, that would be sweeeeeeet.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) I heard some stud on here interviewed him. That's probably what got him out of our organization.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) He also really doesn't have a position on the field. Being in the AL helps, but still decreases his value. On top of it, he did this all in High A. I'm very curious to see what he does at AA next year. Carter is a good prospect. You were going to have to give up something of value to get a player like Quentin. It was a fantastic trade, and I give Kenny a ton of credit. Long - term I think he's definitely a DH. I too have no problems with the deal at all. I'd like to target Hermida from Florida, as I think we need to get the core group of guys in our lineup to a younger age.
-
He still strikes out a ton though IIRC. But yeah, he could definitely end up being a 30HR guy at least at the major league level. Oakland's system is looking good to say the least.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) Scalise. How would you pull that one off shipps?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) By the way, are you going out in manhattan? I havent been to the LES in several weeks but I think someone told me Tonic is having a Halloween thing. I usually love that place so i'd imagine that would be quite interesting I would imagine so., although I heard something about a decent thing happening in Brooklyn also. Next time you're out boozing in Manhattan, let me know.

How good is Josh Bard behind the plate defensively FWIW? Had a couple of decent offensive season in San Diego before this year.

QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) Going from one to the other then back would be even more unrealistic, IMO. Well maybe he gets undermimed by his #2 or something, but it would be an interesting storyline. I'd just like to see him branch out from the agency a bit, although the storyline with Jeffrey Tambor on the weekend was hilarious to say the least.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) You should go in the Borat bikini. I'd rather dress up in a fat suit and look like Asmajaeed, or whatever his name was.

Yes I know I'm ridicously early, but hell I never celebrate Halloween down under, and I'm trying to figure out what a good costume to wear would be for this year. Any ideas?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) The Sox don't have the pieces to reasonably make a deal for someone like Lincecum. The names you mentioned would have absolutely no value to the Giants in such a trade; they'd be interested in them just because they could use talent in their system, but the most you'd get is probably someone like Fred Lewis or Randy Winn, and even that's pretty damn unlikely. On top of that, McCulloch has literally no value unless some team wants to take a chance on him - a 4.65 ERA in a pitcher's park at AA...yeah no. It's interesting to think of a Cain/Lincecum and Zito type deal, but I wouldn't put any real thought into it. It'd be interesting to see what they would offer for Konerko or Dye though. If you could get Cain for either, it'd be hard to turn down.

Gotta say, last night's epsiode was definitely the best of the season so far, and probably one of all time for mine. So much in comedy and plot development (with Ari). The bit with E and the model, brilliant.

Wedding's are great fun also. I was at one back down in Melbourne last weekend, and there were couple of good looking bridesmaids. Congrats Steve on the news.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) Vazquez has a ton of value. Teams know they can get 30 starts, 200 + innings and K's, and a 4.25 ERA in the AL from him. While he's not a big game pitcher, he can help a team get the playoffs with his ability to eat innings and keep a team in the game. If Javy could net the sox a SP who could be in the 2009 rotation plus another solid contributor in the bullpen or a young position player, I could see him being moved. But it would have to be a good return. Here's my line of thinking on this scenario. I am a backer of Vazquez, who's not exactly flavor of the month round these parts after his finish to the season. Milwaukee is going to lose both Sheets and C.C most likely. Now they could try to sign a FA SP such as Garland, but if I was KW, I'd offer them Vazquez to see what I could get in return. Rickie Weeks for CF for instance (possible B.J Upton type impact?). The Mets are another team that may lose Perez and will need a replacement. So we have options there.

Any major changes anyone who can watch the games can see in terms of style / strategy with Quenneville as coach instead of Savvy?
-
Either way, I think Florida is definitely a good team to target in terms of either a starting pitcher of Hermida this off-season. Problem is, every other team probably thinks that as well.

Bit quiet ATM, so I'll start up another off-season thread. The Sox are probably going to have around $15-20M to spend this off-season if they want, maybe more, depending if JR will increase the payroll again. We've got OC, KG, JU, and JC coming off the books which alone is around $20M in salary at least. I can't remember what the deal will be with JC's contract RE insurance. Also, KW may try to keep bringing in a younger core as he has done in the past few off-seasons, bringing in guys like Floyd, Danks and Quentin etc. I can definitely see one of JD or PK being offered around in trades, and I think the Giants would certainly have an interest in PK. If we were looking for a potential OF replacement, a guy I saw got mentioned as possible trade bait was Jeremy Hermida. Here are his numbers on the past 2 seasons; 2007 - .296/.369/.501 2008 - .249/.323/.406 I think they maybe looking for a young third baseman, so maybe Josh Fields would fit the bill. I'd definitely offer Fields + other pieces for Hermida if you traded Dye, because I think if he could get back to where he was in 2007, he'd have a massive impact on the Southside as Quentin did this season. Second base wise, I saw that the A's are probably going to lock up Ellis to a 2 year deal today. Hudson's the main one on the market, and I would offer an inflated short - term deal, to try and sign him, but wouldn't go anything more than 2 years with an option for a 3rd. I know rockraines has mentioned J.J Hardy though a few times. He's posted OPS's of .786 and .821 over the past 2 seasons, so he could definitely be a trade option also. The Brewers would want some starting arms though to replace Sheets and C.C though I guess.

Kelly Pavlik falls to Bernard Hopkins
DBAHO replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
My roommate went to Atlantic City to watch the fight last night. Pavlik is pretty much the main hope for American Boxing, so last night was devastating in that regard. Doubt Calzaghe will fight him now. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) About as strange a game as you'll ever see. It is an important win for the Bears, but wow it's amazing how bad the NFC North is. I (among others) was clearly wrong about Kyle Orton though, he looks great. Oh, and HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS? Of all the hyped teams coming into an NFL season in recent memory, they are starting to look like they might be one of the biggest flops. Blown out at St. Louis? Even without Romo, that's pathetic. The Chargers lose again as well, speaking of flops (although they are only a game and a half out in a division with two horrible teams, so they aren't dead yet). Norv Turner's seat has to be getting pretty warm these days. Yep, absoultely disgraceful performance today, no ifs or buts about it. My guess is Romo will be back in next week, after Johnson's performance. Oh and our defense, is just awful ATM. Wade Phillips and Brian Stewart are both definitely on the hot-seat.
-
He'll go to the Yankees or Angels IMHO. And I'd probably stay away from him either way. He'll want a 5-6 year deal at least, which JR never gives out to a starting pitcher, and he's thrown a lot of innings in the past few years.

So long as Gavin keeps the ERA down, I could care less how many runners steal bases against him.
