Jim Thome's 2009 option.
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) If Kenny could find another Quentin then, hell yes, I'd be fine with Swisher in CF for another year. I'd like to see Kenny go after a solid-but-not-great defensive CF this winter. Willy Taveras has been mentioned here. If Kenny could give up Owens and maybe another prospect for somebody like that, it'd be worth a shot, IMO. Somebody who can play good defensive CF and get on base enough to lead off would obviously be ideal, but that's most likely a pipe dream. A guy I actually had in mind was Reggie Willits (who I would love as a 4th OF if you could find a better alternative BTW). But Taveras could be a possibility also. Although IIRC, he's not having the best season numbers wise in Colorado currently. But if we could get a Furcal to replace OC in the off-season, we wouldn't need a leadoff hitter then. Just a balanced hitter with a bit of speed who has a good OBP.

Euro 2008
Fabregas is beautiful to watch when in form like that. My question is, with Villa out, do Spain go 4-5-1 with Fabregas the 3rd CM, or do they stick with 4-4-2 and use David Guiza as the 2nd striker alongside Fernando Torres?

Yeah I'd rather Bouwmeester to Campbell to be honest. And that's becaue he's younger, and is probably a better "defensive" defenseman than Campbell. Plus you trade say Barker, Skille and Lang plus a pick for him (just for an example), you've got room to go get Marion Hossa, and maybe a Rosival or Liles as well to sure up both the O and D. If there was a way to get Bouwmeester without giving up Barker though (using picks and prospects), DT should look into that.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Where did you see this? Plus, like you said, I think Rose is a mix of Paul and Williams. He's more explosive then Williams, like Paul, but he's a bigger type PG, like Williams. It was rumored earlier on in the thread. It's only a rumor though.

Jim Thome's 2009 option.
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) As surprisingly effective as Swish has been in CF, the Sox need a natural CF for the long term. I wouldn't mind him platooning with another player there, but throwing him out there for 150+ games with BA at their disposal is pretty silly, IMO. Also, with Crede, Thome, Contreras, etc. coming off the books over the next 6-18 months, the Sox are going into rebuilding mode (or at least MAJOR retooling mode). They're better off addressing the CF situation sooner than later. Perhaps more importantly, Dye needs to be moved out of RF next year for defensive purposes (and to limit the stress on his 35-year-old body). That would pretty much move Quentin to RF and Swisher to LF, opening up CF. Swisher could still easily play CF though in that scenario, if you could find a OF to play a corner spot. Another Quentin type of trade by KW would be nice here. Who are the FA CF's out there in the off-season FWIW though? By I agree on getting the core younger and younger. If they can do that by shipping out Thome and Konerko and not sacrificing on talent, by all means, that's the path they should go down.

Well I mean in terms of size and length for a PG. In a different system (more fast paced offense), I think Williams could be more explosive, but he's used in a pretty controlled offense under Jerry Sloan. You could say he's a mix b/w CP3 and Deron actually. Either way, if Rose becomes as good as either of those 2, they've hit a home run here.

Richard and Getz in Futures Game
Yeah long - term I don't see Getz being more than an "Ozuna" type of sparkplug off the bench. Hope he can prove me wrong though, but I rate Richar in front at this stage.

Jim Thome's 2009 option.
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) Except with Thome gone, Cabrera almost a lock to leave, Uribe taking a hike, and all the starters locked in for next season, there is going to be more than 25 million coming off the books, at least in that scenario. Someone else will be brought in. Furcal should be KW's main target if he's looking for a SS. But the Richar - Ramirez option up the middle is still there. I'm not who the major FA CF is though. But Swisher could always stay there (he's been a pretty decent defensive CF), and you could just bring in a 1B/DH instead to replace Thome (but I doubt they'll do that). One of the main reasons we brought in Thome anyway was to have a major power hitting LHH, to have against those good RHP's. Unfortunately now, it's lefties which are the major problem.

Rose is basically comparable to Deron Williams, and if he turns out to be anything close to that, Bulls fans' should be very happy. I'm surprised McHale would have offer Jefferson for the #1 though. Would they have taken Beasley I wonder if they ended up with that choice? As for the Mayo trade, I like what Memphis did there. Conley and Mayo in the back-court is a good mix. Makes you think what are they going to do with Crittendon and Lowry though. My guess is the latter is definitely on his way out, maybe to Denver. I don't like Love as a prospect, and Minny have basically 2 PF's now down low, but Mike Miller will be a good fit at SG/SF.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) Have you gotten used to the time change yet? Considering I've been here over 2 months now........ yes. One of the weirder things though is the day games for baseball. I'm so used to getting up in the morning in Australia, and getting the final scores then.

Got up at 4 this morning to go see Coldplay at the Rockefeller Center. Queue was a wrapped around a whole block at 5:20AM when me and a buddy got there, but we managed to get in anyways. Great show even if they only played 6 songs.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Arthur added to Oden and Aldridge in the big man rotation, nice. Portland's my 2nd favourite team right now. And they're bringing in Fernandez from Spain to play SG, and he's got very good reports on him. Deepest team in the league IMHO.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) Deng for Redd is laughable. Deng is better than Redd by a longshot already and that is before you factor in age and everything else. Nocioni and Tyrus Thomas would probably be a fair deal though for both sides, although the Bulls aren't going to acquire Redd without a plan to clear out the log-jam of 2 guards they have (ie, Hughes/Gordon/Hinrich). Well considering that Skiles didn't get along with Thomas, can't see that happening. And Milwaulkee would have 5 SF's/PF's in Jefferson, Thomas, Villenueva, Nocioni and Alexander (if they draft him) under that scenario. They'd rather dump Redd for expiring contracts I think.
