  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) So the Community Shield is this Sunday. I take it it's pretty much a glorified 'friendly', yes? It'll still be fun to see it live, Man-U vs Chelsea. Yeah pretty much, although these 2 are firm rivals now for the obvious reasons, so it's always a fairly spiteful affair. Carlos Tevez's move to Man United has been confirmed now subject to Premier League approval, so he could take some part. I'm most looking forward to seeing Nani and Anderson for Man United, argubly the 2 best young creative attacking midfielders in the world.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) The irony is delicious that you would give Floyd shots but not poor Heath Phillips. And though it's true there's only been one successful knuckler over the past fifteen years, that's one more successful knuckler in baseball than successful Gavin Floyds. Probably because Heath Phillips doesn't have the stuff to be a sucessful major league pitcher, and if he did, some team would have traded for him, because controlling a good young SP for 6 years at the major league level is like finding some sort of gold right now.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) I'd take Pat Burrell in a second for Contreras. He'd be the 3rd best hitter on the Sox. The Sox are going to need OF's this off-season (even more if Jermaine Dye leaves). The Phillies have always been desperate for SP (and will be more so if Freddy Garcia leaves as a FA). And the Sox and Phillies have pulled a few trades before. So I could see something happening here. What's the deal with Burrell's contract again, I think it runs out next season (or at least that's what I'm hoping). Either way and I said this before, re-signing Jose Contreras to that 3 year deal could be the worse move in Kenny Williams tenure as a GM right now. It could really cripple this franchise if he can't get back to performing as he used to and we can't dump that salary.
  4. Thank god. Do whatever you can to get rid of Jose and that contract right now. I don't care if you have to take on Pat Burrell for instance (that's how much I want Jose off this team right now). As for Floyd, results to me don't really matter for him over the next 2 months. Let him take his lumps. If he starts to show a bit of that potential he has towards the end of it then it'll be worth it.
  5. Dye for Pena and Hansen, do you take that deal or the 2 draft picks?
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) the Ks are just really really promising from egbert, for a guy who doesn't have ace stuff to get that many Ks tells me alot about this guy....what is not to like right now? hes not giving up alot of walks, he has a ton of Ks, a great ERA, is still only 23....i guess i would like to see him at the next level...basically this guy is starting to seem to me like all the good things we saw in mccarthy, coupled with the fact that he keeps the ball in the park and on the ground, which was brandon's biggest weakness That's the thing, with his sinker, and the way KW has been drafting and trading for those type of pitchers, I really thibnk Egbert could be the next guy the Sox go with if they're looking for a starter. Of course it's probably best if the Sox move him up to Charlotte right now, get him in a similar envrionment as to what he'd be facing at the Cell and see how he handles himself there. He could end up being a poor man's Brandon Webb when it's all said and done hopefully.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:19 AM) How bout this KW, Craig Hansen and Michael Bowden for Dye... I think Boston would do it, and it would be good value in return for us. Trying to acquire Hansen is something that I've thought of as well. I just hope he hasn't turned into the 2nd version of Ryan Wagner permanently though. I think I read yesterday though that he was getting his slider back on track in the minors and performing the best that he has for a while. I think he's just a guy you have to take a chance on with his stuff and hope you can get him turned around, because he could be very valuable for us if that was the case e.g Jonathan Broxton with the Dodgers.
  8. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 05:49 AM) The Braves made an offer to the Sox for Garland. They would send us Renteria and a "top level pitching prospect"... The Sox rejected Hmm interesting. It really seems John Schuerholz wants to make a big move here at the deadline whether it's trading for Mark Teixeira or Jon Garland. It seems though, that they can't really take a big increase in payroll, hence why they're offering Renteria. I want to get people's thoughts though on if Atlanta offered Salty instead of Renteria plus that top level pitching spect, would you take that deal, or hope Bill Bavasi offers that major deal instead? What if we threw in Uribe to save salary, get Renteria, and get a weaker prospect? Probably won't happen, but I'm trying to come up with some different scenarios here.
  9. So what's the plan next with Eggy if he keeps pitching like this? Move him up to Charlotte, give him a shot in the Sox's pen, or could he be a guy who would possibly compete for a 5th starter's job next season if one of our starters was moved?
  10. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) Could this come together any better? Seattle is in desperate need of starting pitching, on the verge of losing their 7th in a row, the asst. GM is head over heels for Garland, KW is asking 3 top spects for Garland. It's the perfect storm. The trade Flash has been hoping for. Since Garland is not just a half-season rental, I'd be asking for Balentien, Clement, and Triunfel. I've been on the bandwagon of not trading Garland, but if you got a package like that for JG, then I would probably change my mind. Hell, include Jermaine Dye in that deal, and try to get another top notch prospect. However, if we were to trade Javier Vazquez or Jon Garland, we should still make every attempt to deal away Jose Contreras's contract. Imagine freeing up $30M in payroll this off-season when the contracts of Garland, Contreras, Dye and Iguchi are no longer with us, that would make us a mjor player in free agency, and the oppurtunity to rebound next season. And you we're dealing with the perfect GM to be trading with at the deadline in Bill Bavasi here. He could seriously buck the trend and majorly overpay here. I think he knows as a GM he needs to win now at all costs in order to make the playoffs.
  11. Kanny have got some hitters who have really performed well for them this season, they've often scored in pretty high numbers. Good to see Sisco building some momentum as a starter.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) Floyd reminds me so much of a young Jon Garland it isn't even funny. He needs a year of the Guillen treatment to get him mentally ready for the big leagues, because he has the best arm on the staff. That's an excellent comparison. We've all heard how "mentally fragile" Gavin Floyd can be on the mound. Ozzie needs to get into that head of his to turn that thought process around because he certainly has the arm to succeed.
  13. He found out that a White Sox pitching spect is not meant to have as good stuff as he does, so he decided to march out of Kanny and join one of the Minnesota Twins affilates........... No seriously, I hope nothing is wrong with him. Maybe they've just decided enough is enough for him this season, and they don't want him to log anymore innings?
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 08:11 AM) They can have Count for a bag of balls. Yep my thoughts too. Try to re-sign Garland, hang onto Javy (because he's thrived this season), but just do what you can to get Jose Contreras's contract off the books. We've got 3 excellent SP's, a good young developing SP, and we should build the rotation around that. If anyone's willing to take Jose's contract, make that deal.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) Poreda's long term future depends on health and the development of his off speed stuff. Really, he was a "safe" pick in the sense that even if his secondary stuff doesn't develop, he's still a 6'6 lefty with a mid 90's fastball and power sinker that gets a ton of grounders. But yeah, if he develops some secondary pitches, he'll be a starter, if not, relief pitcher. And then of course there is the injury factor, but I'm hoping that doesn't come into play too much. That's the key, and the Sox have a pretty good record of teaching those secondary pitches to their SP spects over the past couple of seasons, hence why I think they made the selection with Poreda here.
  16. Josh Fields has got to be on this team for 2008 the way he is hitting ATM. I don't care if it's at 3B or LF but it looks like for the 1st time in a while we have a young hitter who can be productive at the major league level. Now in regards to Antoni Otuska, I don't mind the idea of trading for him, if the price is right of course. I hope like hell Jon Daniels likes Brian Anderson. Now Anderson for Otsuka straight up ain't going to do it, but if you threw a pitching spect in there (Kyle McCullough?), then maybe something could get done there. Try to re-sign Otsuka if you can, he'd be a very valuable piece out of the pen for us, otherwise take the 2 draft picks, and keep rebuilding the system. As for Dye to the Mariners, well Bill Bavasi has been known to make trades that well don't make much sense. Considering the logjam at 1B/DH/OF that the M's have, I don't see how Dye would really fit in there. Still if they're willing to offer the best package, make a deal with them for sure. Dye and Contreras would pretty much be a pipedream for us. I don't think Jose Contreras has ANY trade value whatsoever after what he has produced over the past couple of months. Re-signing him to that 3 year deal, could turn out to be the biggest mistake KW has made in his tenure as GM right now.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Poreda continues to dominate btw....2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 3 k's, 3 groundouts......not sure if they think he's a SP or RP, but he seems ready for Kanny either way. You'd hope as a SP, otherwise people will start flaming the pick. Either way, I think they're just getting him ready for next season. You have to remember our previous 1st round picks such as Broadway didn't pitch much in the minors after they were drafted that season.
  18. Some people may have had a little hope for Honel, but his last couple of outings out of the pen have pretty much comfirmed he's done as a prospect. Just another fantastic selection from Duane Shaffer.
  19. QUOTE(GoGoWhiteSox! @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) so why the f*** would you immediately start dismantling the team after you win. Ridiculous!! Because you're trying to make the team better, and more often than not when you win a WS and then you stand pat, the next season you don't reach those kind of heights again.
  20. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) lmfao no they wont give up hughes or chamberlain what are you smoking So what would you trade Jon Garland for then?
  21. You can't really make a judgement until he reaches the bigs and shows what he's capable of. But he's certainly rebounded this season in AA, and the future is looking quite bright for him. But I remember when he was traded in the 1st place, some people (read my sig) said he wouldn't even be any good. Don't think that's the case anymore........
  22. Well she's headed down the same path as Britney Spears basically. Just a sad situation all around really for everyone involved.
  23. I want 2 out of Chamberlain, Kennedy and Tabata for Garland. Otherwise no deal, and look elsewhere. We shouldn't be looking to trade Garland unless a team overpays for his services, simple as that. I'd think Omar Minaya could overpay for him though, considering he is signed thru 2008.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) f***in Egbert gave up a run. You demand perfection from your prospects don't you.
