  1. I'd say it's more likely the Bears would target McNabb instead as well. Leftwich must have burnt some bridges with Del Rio as apparently it was the best he had looked and most healthy for a while. I'd say he could end up in Minny maybe depending on how Tavaris Jackson develops? Maybe the Chiefs?
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) Because he wont be brought back to have a Mack like position. If he is here, and healthy he will start. Hell he is a shadow starter as it is right now. I don't mind the idea of Erstad as a 4th outfielder IF the price was right ( But I think it's more likely if Owens doesn't get a starting job, than he'll get the 4th OF spot. The last month is really huge for Owens and his future career right now. If he can have an OBP around the .350 mark (I think since the post ASB it's been above .300), then that may not be just enough for him to stick as a leadoff hitter if the Sox don't sign Rowand or Torii Hunter in the off-season.
  3. Uribe needs to be replaced as he's had 3 seasons here and gone down offensively in every one. He's not getting any better and is a liability at anything more than $2-3M. But Eckstein ain't really the answer. We'd suffer defensively, and I don't think he's all that good (although I'm sure KW would talk up the "grinder" factor). Hence why dealing Garland to a team such as the Dodgers for Chin - Lung Hu and more prospects makes more sense. And after Contreras' outing today, there may be some hope we can deal him as well (and not have to pay some of his salary to get him dealt).
  4. What are Wing's total numbers at now? He's had an excellent comeback season. There may be some hope for him yet. Good to see DLS and Poreda have excellent starts as well. The pitching side of our minor league system doesn't look too bad right now. It's completely the opposite for our position prospects though.
  5. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) I missed this. There better be an mp3 up. As Carl Carlson once said "I conquer.......... word of the day calendar".
  6. I bet Chris Kelly is feeling good about his defensive effort tonight.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 08:14 AM) Poitevint (and myself... A little back-patting necessary) pretty much nailed the scouting report on Matsuzaka...http://www.southsidesox.com/story/2006/10/25/173815/66 I wonder what his thoughts are on that Japanese SS who's coming across in the off-season?
  8. At least with Omar, he's got pretty decent plate discipline, it's just a matter of him putting the ball in play which he hasn't done a good job of this season. Also he's picked it up with a .351 OBP and 19/9 BB/K ratio since the ASB.
  9. I suppose the argument is there, would you rather a Terry Ryan who's much better at building a system but hasn't had major success, or a Kenny Williams who's more aggressive and has won a world series, but can get into trouble sometimes with his moves that he's made? Or a Mark Shapiro as well, who's starting to have some success with the Indians now.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) I'm getting a little concerned about D Lucy's hitting. Not that he's been spectacular previously, but he was pretty good at AA this year. Now in his first month of AAA, he is hitting just under .200. And worse, he is striking out a ton, which is something he hasn't done at ANY level. I wonder what the deal is there? Hopefully he can turn it around and get back to his more typical .260-.285 range that he has tended to have in his previous full seasons at various levels. With his solid defense, strong arm, very good pitcher handling and a little speed, he could be a great addition to the big club in 2008 replacing Toby Hall. I think 2008's still a bit too early for Donny to be up with us. I'd give him a whole season at AAA to handle the pitching there, and to get him comfortable at that level. Hall's signed to a 2 year deal as well, so I don't know if the White Sox are going to cut their losses on him, when he's obviously not 100% healthy at the moment, so they haven't really seen what he's capable of.
  11. I voted Walker, although I have to say I was shocked that no-one has voted for Cooper yet, considering the state of our bullpen, and some of our rotation. Just for me, it's inexcuseable that a player such as Juan Uribe who has a lot of talent has regressed so much. How can he go from being such a great #2 hitter, so someone who can't get an OP over .300 for 2 seasons in a row? Now he may not listen, and he may have a different swing with each AB, but for mine, Walker needed to find another way to get through to Juan, use that timing mechanism etc. Players such as Dye have also regressed from last season. In a park that's as hitting friendly as the Cell, that doesn't bode well for Walker. Very lucky to still have a job.
  12. The pitching is good, I have no beefs about that ATM, it's looked better than it has over the past couple of years. But the Sox almost need to do a 180, and draft nothing but position players in the 1st 7 rounds of next season's draft. I don't think you could find a worse system than ours when it comes to position player prospects.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 05:14 AM) Just 22 years old and his wife is 6 weeks from her due date of their first child. So very sad. Yeah it's just a tragedy. And the player was a very good one as well, think he was linked to Arsenal last season. Just puts things into perspective, how a healthy 22 year old can suddenly lose his life in such unfortunate circumstances. Hopefully the wife and the child will be looked after. I can't imagine what they'd be going through right now.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) Joe Crede averaged an .800 OPS over the past 2 seasons in the same sense that Bronson Arroyo averaged a 3.85 ERA over the '05/'06 seasons -- mediocre for the 1st year and playing way above his career averages in year 2 -- 4.51 ERA/3.29 ERA. Crede hit .250 with no OBP and a little power in '05 but upped his OPS 70 points last season. It's fun and all to say he's averaged a .796 OPS over the past 2 seasons but that's incredibly misleading seeing as how he was mediocre in '05. There's really no reason to believe that if Crede is retained for next season that he'll put up anything better than a .750 OPS. That season though in 2005, Crede had 4 months where he posted +.800 OPS's, and it was only due to 2 real bad months he had, that he dragged his OPS down overall. I remember coming into the 2006 season telling people, the chances of Crede improving were good because of that statistic. Not saying that's going to happen again, but he's got some runs on the board there for mine.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 05:52 AM) Maybe Gavin Floyd can go there again and get Kenny all excited. I knew someone was going to say that.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) I can't wait to watch Crede pop up softly to the right side of the infield, hit .250 with no OBP and little power. I, of course, have little faith that Crede's back will be alright enough for him to put up solid numbers and be an active contributor but it's not my four million or roster spot wasted next year. I'm just glad we've got so many players in the minors waiting for people to get injured or leave via free agency so that they can come in and contribute. Well I mean obviously it's all going to depend on how Crede's back recovers, and whether he can get back to 100% fitness. But I mean even a not 100% healthy Joe Crede is going to put up better numbers then that. He's averaged around an .800 OPS before this season over the last 2, so his numbers weren't too shabby. I think the Sox are basically going to roll the dice here, and hope that Crede gets back and can produce, so at the deadline he'll bring in a very nice package from a contender. Long - term I think the 3B spot belongs to Fields, I can't see Crede getting re-signed a long - term deal, but the Sox don't want to give him away for nothing. Will be interesting if they keep him, and if he has a real BAD start in April/May, whether or not they hang onto him, or cut their losses.
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:32 AM) I'm sitting in teh home office working on the computer and my 8-year old son has me shaking my head in disbelief. he's talking on the phone with his best friend from school, playing an online multiplayer Internet game with some other kids, AND playing a game on his DS handheld system as well, all at the same time. Talk about a sensory overload. I dunno, maybe it's Ritalin time. I call it multi - tasking.
  18. I agree with the person who said Half Life was way better than Halo. Half Life 2 was simply the best 1st person shooter I've ever played hands down. And I can't wait for Episode 2 to come out next year. That along with GTAIV are the 2 games I'm most hanging out for ATM. Also, can I ask how much a Nintendo Wii is currently over there ATM?
  19. Not DLS's best outing this season. Very nice outing for Broadway though. Needs to be more consistent however, as he's had his share of good and bad starts this season.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) There's NO way Ichiro would have come here anyway... that's just plain ridiculous. Well I don't know about that, obviously we would have needed to hang otno Iguchi and not re-sign Dye. But if Ichiro left as a FA, I think we would have been one of the favorites to sign him, because we had some favorable factors.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) Owens would provide some very nice speed off the bench while acting as the backup CF. Yeah he'd be an ideal 4th OF for this team, with his speed etc. In no way should he have a starting job handed to him next season. I mean people bash Podsednik, but he has an OBP better than Owens, so what message are you sendin there if you give Owens a leadoff spot? That's why Ichiro getting re-signed really hurt, he would have been absolutely perfect for this team.
  22. Arsenal won 1-0, late goal from Fabregas, still undefeated in the EPL this season. We drew 1-1 with Wigan at home. Terribly frustrating game, but we came back from a goal down. Liverpool had an easy 2-0 win over Sunderland. I'm impressed with Liverpool so far, they really dominated possesion, and I give them a real chance of winning the league this season.
  23. Yikes, those are some decent numbers Reynoso has.
