  1. So how did Floyd look tonight? Another promising outing, he seems to be getting it together a bit. On Keith's scenario, I think most of us would go for that since you're really improving more for the long - term, bur considering Ozzie and KW want to win next season, I can't see both of them being traded.
  2. Hmm a couple of injuries there for the Bears. And you guys really did a good job against LT. Hence the offense is going to have to pick it up, especially Benson. Peterson looked alright from the brief bits I saw of him though. For the Cowboys, Jason Ferguson is out for the season, and he's a big loss considering he's the 3-4 nose tackle, they don't exacty grow on trees. Gotta feel sorry for Mike Brown with what he's gone thru as well over the past couple of years, just rotten luck.
  3. Well decent start for the Cowboys. Offense obviously has picked up where it left out, Romo looked good. Defensively we will certainly have to improve. I don't like our pass defense if Newman ain't 100% with that foot injury all season.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 09:56 AM) Are you kidding me....relievers for Jon Garland. If Kenny does that he should be absolutely f***ing fired. RELIEVERS....your talking about RELIEVERS...NO NO NO. If you bring up some of there stud prospects..yes yes yes...but relievers...NO. Haha I take it that's a no there Jason. And I agree with you, especially when you consider as the article said Fuentes could make $7M next season. Do you want to pay that kind of money for a former closer? Hell no. I threw in Ianetta because even though he's majorly struggled this season, he's young, very talented, and would fill our need for a young catcher, which would allow us to trade Pierzynski if the deal was right. I think everyone is worried at the moment that KW is going to overpay and trade for relievers. Considering the state of our pen, it's easy to see why he wants to fill that need. And because there's not a lot out there in FA, if we're going to improve it, it's probably going to have to be with a trade, and that gets everyone worried. Keith brought up Atlanta as a good trading partner. The Dodgers could make sense, especially if they would include Hu in a deal. Jonathan Meloan perhaps as well? And Seattle loves Garland as well. So we've got options, and I hope KW isn't locked in to just trading Garland to improve the pen, he has to fill other needs and improve the farm system, he's got a LOT of work to do this off-season.
  5. Also from the same article; Garland and Aardsma in a package?
  6. Hmmm; Now I wonder, if the Rockies offered say Fuentes, Chris Iannetta and another reliever for Garland, would that get you interested?

    Create a Band Name

Ok, now I've going on a different path here. I need to come up with the most entertaining and creative name for a racing horse (it's to win a competition to get prime seats at Australia's equivalent to the Superbowl). So any suggestions?
  8. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) I'm definitely not sold on him. No way. Because? I'm not doubting your answer Greg, I just want to see something behind that statement. Anyways, if used right Logan can be very effective. You still have to remember his age, experience at the major league level etc. so he should only get better. I think if it was a choice b/w him and Myers for a spot next season, you'd have to go with Boone at this point.
  9. Sorry to hear that Jason. Had the same situation about 18 months back, we had to put ours down because he couldn't walk. We haven't replaced it with another cat, and I don't think we ever will to be honest. They really become part of the family.

    QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 06:11 AM) Did you see this? Same guys. I'd be so pissed if I was Arab . . . Yes seen that one before. They really do some great material;
  11. Hmmm will Southwest Airlines now have guidelines on "suitable clothing to wear on our flights" after this I wonder? Not exactly the greatest PR for them.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) Where is everyone??? I am usually around at the time, but alas it's a Friday Night and I've been out drinking. At least I wasn't near a computer like Heads though.
  13. Interested to see some reactions, people down here have been mixed, probably more think it's pretty funny though; http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/09/0...t/index.html?hp
  14. QUOTE(Wide-Stance Gal @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) I dunno about that. Perhaps they missed such gorgeous prose as this: But yeah, pretty funny. And, uh, Hi all! First post and all that. Welcome to Soxtalk!
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) Since the calendar turned to July, Oneli has a 50:6 K/BB ratio in 33.1 IP.... Kevin Towers (the Padres GM) says the most important aspect of bullpen building is finding strike throwers, a lesson we've learned the hard way this season. I'd say that Oneli absolutely deserves a shot this October. He's certainly more deserving than Broadway, who had to be put on the 40-man for his call-up. I don't disagree that Oneli's got good numbers, he's been good for 2 seasons now. It is easier for the Pads to find better bullpen guys though just because of PETCO. Our relievers if they pitched there would have much better numbers than they do now. But as Balta said, you don't want to pay a Scott Linebrink a 20M contract in the off-season. Hence why KW's in a tough spot. I think it'd be more likely he would acquire arms through the trade route before giving a shot to an untested rookie at the major league level, even if his numbers indicate he could be ready.
  16. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) Considering how pathetic the Sox pen was this year, I don't see how they could not consider Perez a viable option to make the team. I'd imagine considering how bad Dewon Day was when he was called up, the Sox may have some reservations on Perez making it in our pen before he hits AAA. A good showing in Spring Training however could maybe change that, but I think KW is really going to want some proven guys in there after this season's fiasco.

    Create a Band Name

QUOTE(Soxy @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Sometimes I want to start a band with my grad school friends and call it the PhDivas. But I don't think that will help your friend Andrew, sorry. . . What kind of music do they play? I "guess" you could call it rock. Thanks for the links Leonard.

    Create a Band Name

A colleague at work is starting up a band, and asked me for some ideas for a band name. Well except I'm not very good at creative ideas like this. So I thought I'd post it here and get some names for people on here, it can be anything basically.
  19. I'm late, but happy birthday Tex!
  20. Furcal or Chin - Lung Hu would be my preferences. If the Sox could pull off a Contreras plus a spect for Furcal deal for example, I would be very happy with that.

At least it's not Heads for once.
  22. The only way the Sox could think about signing Rowand or Hunter IMHO, would be to trade BOTH Contreras and Garland, basically for prospects (including a young SS that can play right now). You free up $20M then, because remember some people have speculated that Hunter could get 5/75 or even 18M a season, while Rowand will probably get around 5/55. Payroll has increased from season to season, but I wonder if it will increase as much as it has in the past considering; 1 - Our subpar season. 2 - Have we put more money into player development / scouting / Latin America etc. This team can be fixed for a quick rebuild, but I think it's more likely on the trade market than the free agency route myself.
  23. Yeah they have been good this season Great Falls. Still there's players such as Poreda and Salvador Sanchez who really should be dominating in that league (and they have). Not Kyle McCullogh's best outing tonight only going 2 innings.
