  1. Let's hope Gavin can re-produce the goods. Will certainly be a tough matchup for him though, Seattle have swung the bats well recently.
  2. The game was on ESPN down here, so I got to listen to Stoney tonight, and I gotta say, I was impressed. He really had a good knowledge of the game and the players, so I'd like to see him there full time myself.
  3. From the Trib; So I can't see a deal happening here myself.
  4. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) BRING BACK DUANE! As what, the new team mascot? All in all, great night by everyone who started, really heartening to see.
  5. Little snippet; Now my question is, do we hang onto him? Is he going to get a chance to compete as a 5th starter next season? Or do you use him as bait to try and get a young SS who can contribute now?
  6. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) I miss that puke button, but somehow he's getting people out so maybe I'll warm up even though he is teh sucky. It might be a fluke considering his history, but anyone who has a 3.16 ERA in our pen probably deserves a place in this bullpen considering how bad it's been this season. Still with a WHIP of 1.48 and a BAA of .265, I doubt it's sustainable, especially when he doesn't K a lot of hitters either.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) I pay $8. Is that the going rate in Iowa?
  8. Glad they did it. Takes the lame duck scenario out of the way, and gives Savard some time to get things clicking with all of the new players he's going to have this season, especially with the forwards.

    Laptop Help

    Really depends on what type of laptop you're after. cnet.com is a good review web-site, and I think they do different categories for laptops e.g ones under $1000 etc.
  10. If we can get any type of young player at all, we should make the deal. It would either allow for Erstad to take over his role which I suppose is the lesser of 2 evils.

  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) ZIGIC TO VALENCIAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well him and David Villa will certainly make an interesting strike duo.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) I'm so juiced for this one. Also, will Tevez be dressed for Man-U on Sunday? I don't think so. IIRC the EPL lawyers are still to sign off on the deal (although they may have done that recently).
  14. Interesting story; He's certainly got some talent, is he worth taking a chance on? I imagine a team such as the D-Rays who are desperate for relief help would probably offer him a major league deal though.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Hu would likely be an upgrade offensively over Uribe. Yet the sox rely on strong defense--esp. up the middle--as their pitchers pitch to contact, and rely on the defense to make plays. Can Hu be reliable with the glove? Can two rookies at SS and 2b be counted on to provide the solid, consistent defense a playoff team needs? Most young players aren't going to be gold glovers right away. There's a learning process. You rarely see an inexperienced double play tandem for a team that wants to win it all. That's all I'm saying. And I know you like Hu. But you don't have to take my doubts about the sox getting him personally like I stole your Lucky Charms. Everything that I read about Hu is that his defense and glove are top notch, in fact, the main question about him going into this season was his bat. He still has to prove he can hit in the majors of course, but he's answered some of those questions at least this season. So that's why I think a lot of us are thinking about trading for him. He'll offer you the same defense you need at SS (especially if you have some groundball pitchers), we'd control him for 6 seasons, and hopefully he can grow offensively and actually give us a +.300 OBP from the SS spot.
  16. Let's hope he can keep pitching like this for us for a very, very long time.
  17. My cable provider just announced that for the afternoon matches for the EPL I can now select which match I want to watch instead of just being stuck with the 1. F'ing brilliant.

    College Move In...

    Well I never had to move into a dorm or anything for college down here, since it's only a 10 min drive from where I live, so really what's the point of moving on campus there unless you're forced to. It's my last semester, and dare I say, I won't be here living at home next year. So I guess I missed out on the whole "College" experience, since I only really spend 2, 3 hours max on campus a week.
  19. Hmm interesting. I wonder if he dominates in W-S for the rest of the season, where that puts him to start next season, maybe in B-Ham or repeating at W-S?
  20. Pretty much says it all about Ersty's chances of coming back next season;
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) What does Broadway plus a non-top 10 do for the Dodgers? They're trying to win, and trading one of their prospects who has good value for a struggling prospect and likely a young reliever who may or may not turn into anything is absolutely ridiuclous. I just think it's gonna take a hell of an offseason to make this team compete, and it's going to be harder if they don't trade Garland because that's $12 mill the Sox can't spend. The difference between a $12 mill 4.00 ERA and a $400K 4.75 ERA isn't just 3 quarters of a point. IIRC, the Dodgers have one of their SP's coming off the books (Tomko), and a few of their SP's in Schmidt and Wolf have had some major injury problems this season. So besides Billingsley, they may want an a prospect who's close to the majors, and could contribute in a pinch if need be. It'll just be interesting to see what the Dodgers would get for Hu if they put him on the market considering they have Furcal. I thought Danks would have the ERA around 4.75 next season, and whoever fills in for Garland would have something more around the 5.5 mark. I suppose I might overrate having some good starting pitching while we have it, no matter the cost.

  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) The Sox weren't in rebuilding mode this year, rather retooling mode; Kenny Williams thought the team he put on the field opening day could compete for a division title. We saw that turn to hell real quick. So, that being said, what makes KW think that a rotation of Buehrle-Vazquez-Danks and then 2 of Floyd/Haeger/Sisco/Masset/Gio/Broadway/MLC pitchers won't work? You're likely to find one of them who will perform well (ie, an ERA of 4.75-5.00), and another who can become a reasonable 5th starter (ie, 5.00-5.50 ERA). If trading Garland can net you Hu and Kemp - giving the Sox a legitimate shortstop and another outfielder - why would you not? And then, if you take on half of Contreras's contract, you may get another solid player out of the whole deal too. As is, the Sox would likely be looking at a rotation of Buehrle-Vazquez-Garland-Danks-battlezone and an outfield of Fields, Owens, and Sweeney. Does anybody on this board actually want that outfield? No I don't want that outfield. I still think we'll re-sign Dye though, or else sign a 1 year stopgap such as Geoff Jenkins and give Sweeney 1 more year of AAA ball. The difference b/w what you've suggested is that Garland is capable of seasons with an ERA below 4, while that 5th starter combo with a 5.50 ERA would possibly cost us 5-10 games during a season. If you could somehow pull off a Broadway plus non top 10 spect for Hu for example, I would rather make that type of deal. A Fields-Owens-Dye OF, with the bulk of our rotation coming back without Contreras gives me more hope that we can rebound for next season, and I think KW would rather go down that path as well.
  24. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) He will be up for grabs. It is a shame that he didn't have the surgery back in March. I believe that is his main problem resulting in his bad numbers this year but that is the risk he took by not fixing it right away. Draws comparisons to the Joe Crede situation really. Still the potential is there, and I think he'll be a better player when it's said and done than a Ryan Sweeney, just because of the power difference.
