West Ham are off the mark with a 1-0 win at B-Ham. Cracking double tonight with the Manchester derby and then Liverpool - Chelsea. I too am picking Liverpool in this one.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) The Jason Jennings deal is a good starting point, just more. Yeah I'd say so. Although looking back at it now, how nice would it be if we did make that deal with Houston IF Hunter Pence was a part of it. I'm looking at a stud young major league ready SS or OF plus 2 top 10 prospects as a minimum if we deal Garland. We shouldn't deal Garland because of his contract situation IMHO. Only if a team makes you a favorable trade offer. Don't make a trade for the sake of making a trade I guess is what I'm trying to say.

On a 2 year deal, I'd take JD easy. But anything longer than that, I'm actually going to lean towards Rowand although he won't live up to the numbers he's produced this season.
-
That's 7 good outings in a row for Sisco now. He's really starting to come on nicely as a starter down there which is good to see. I wonder if he'll get the next oppurtunity as a SP if a slot opens up?

Did we sign those 2 guys we drafted in the 10th and 11th?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) It's a little more complex then that... but it will correct itself. The market usually does. Have you noticed that all the mergers and acquisitions have all but stopped? Where did these people get their money? Just some things to think about... I sure hope so. Our market's down another 3% at the moment. Some people here are speculating its bordering on a crash. 12 months of gains have basically been wiped out.

Well I suppose it's the "major" correction we had to have, or at least that's what I'm hearing. I suppose it's really a perfect buying oppurtunity, I mean especially down here, because if a stock has gone downhill up here just because some guy in Wyoming can't pay off his mortgage (something like that is the terminology we've been using down here), then it shouldn't affect the outlook of stocks down here, especially considering the boom in China etc. with resources.

Very interesting article from the Daily Southtown here; Ok so let's look at a couple of new players mentioned there. Khalil Greene is hitting .240/274/.456 this season. Sounds like another Juan Uribe doesn't it. However, Greene is hitting .267/.301/.498 on the road, a .799 OPS. But is he worth giving up Jon Garland and Brian Anderson for? Bell has a 2.27 ERA this season, his 1st real good one since being traded from the Mets. His numbers are actually better away from PETCO though. But is nothing more than a 1 year wonder, and would moving to the AL and the Cell majorly hurt his numbers as a reliever?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) So I feel like I have something caught in the back of my throat, basically trying to make myself throw up to get whatever it is to come up, and nothing. This is so much fun at 2:45 AM... I was like that for the past 2 weeks, everyone in the office where I work basically had the flu considering it's winter and all, I was the last one to catch it. Fun times.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) Shorey is a good player and was going to say that I doubt he stays at Reading long, and could be a name to watch for being transferred to a top tier EPL club. Not only did he play good defense, but I can recall him being responsible for some of the better played balls on the offensive side. The FSC recap just said the same thing about the transfer to West Ham, because he wont resign with Reading, btu I have to wonder if a bigger club might just snatch him. He would have been a good fit for Tottenham, but they went for Gareth Bale, who will probably be the best left back in the world in a few years, terrific striker of the ball. $5-6M has been the quoted price, certainly very willing to pay that amount for him. I could see Newcastle coming in for him though which worries me, they missed out on Leighton Baines who went to Everton instead. Also I have Newcastle finishing in the top 6 now after their performance at Bolton. I hate Fat Sam, but I think that team's going to do VERY well this season. And Bolton hardly looked very good Soxfan1. Relegation material this season I think, and Sammy Lee could be the 1st manager fired during the season for mine.

Omogrosso has been doing alright as a starter. I wonder if long - term they'll move him back to the pen though e.g Adam Russell

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) Two, count 'em two new episodes (though one is old cause Jason forgot to upload it.) http://www.soxtalk.com/podcasts/august5.mp3 This is the podcast reflecting upon the trade deadline where Gage/Scalise break down the lack of moves made by the Sox on July31st and what the fans should look towards for the remainder of the season. http://www.soxtalk.com/podcasts/8-11-07.mp3 I step behind the mic in place of Mario and Jason and I talk baseball with the Sox before covering the minor leagues and turning the show into an absolute trainwreck. I can imagine. Will check these both out tonight.

Good to hear about Shorey Badger. West Ham have been interested in him for a while, and if Reading can sign a replacement, they'll sell him to us because he won't sign a new contract with Reading. I too like Liverpool's chances of breaking into the top 2. I was very impressed with Babel when he came on. It all depends on Torres' impact in terms of how many goals he can score, because that's always been Liverpool's problem, a pure goalscorer.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) Is there any way to save this video to my computer? When you guys click on the link that I just provided, it'll tell you the video has been removed due to copyright issues. The thing is, I still have the video up on my laptop from before the video got removed. I know on YouTube, I thought I remember being able to just right click and save it, but that's not working for this Daily Motion. Any help is appreciated. Those bastards have taken all of the replays of this video (it's a soccer goal) off all the video sites and I'd really love to have it on my laptop. If it's a youtube video, you can convert it to a .flv file, and then either download a .flv player, or convert that to an .avi or MP3 file. I forgot how to do it, but there's a site on the net somewhere which gives you the steps of how to do that.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 08:15 AM) QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) Haeger has absolutely no shot at being an above average major league pitcher. Gavin Floyd does. Based on what? Well I'd guess on his stuff, the fact that not many knuckleballers have made it over the past 20 years, and his record this season in the minors. Just on Floyd, how did his curveball look in his start yesterday? From what I heard in Detroit it was really working for him. If he's missing his 1st pitch strikes as well, really sounds like the problem Jon Garland had 3-4 years ago.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Holy crap, didn't watch the ManU/Reading game but I just saw that Rooney broke his foot. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=afp-...p&type=lgns Very lucky they have an able replacement in Tevez. Apparently Man U dominated, but just couldn't score. Sounds like Arsenal of last season really. Chelsea beat B-Ham 3-2. Kapo for B-Ham scored the hardest shot I've ever seen. Peter Cech didn't even move. Check it out if you can (it'll be on youtube somewhere).

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) Not having Lucy around seems to have an effect on Gio and Jack. Hmmm I'll say. Still that might not be such a bad thing, if Lucy can eventually make it with the White Sox and he ends up catching those 2 in the rotation one day.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) Yeah, that's perfect. Anybody know anything about the Championship this year? I'm sort of a Cardiff City fan and after leading about 1/3 of the way through they finished just outside the top half. Anybody know if they are favored/who is favored to earn promotion this year? Well they sold Michael Chopra to Sunderland for $5M (and he scored the winner in the 93th minner against Tottenham), so I don't know if they'll get promoted. Charlton will go straight back up for mine. Pardew has bought well mainly from the Darren Bent transfer fee. Sheffield United would like their chances of bouncing back straght up, while teams such as Coventry, Wolves, West Bromwich Albion and Watford will be there around the mark.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) West Ham looked like piss in there game so I'm sure somewhere Dbaho is crying Yeah I was all pumped up and everything, and we came out with a lethargic performance like that. Still it's only 1 game though, and it's good to see Dean Ashton finally back. We badly need Scott Parker to get fit, we got overrun big time in the center of midfield last night.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) That would be sweet (I thought I read where he was out, but I should know better than trust the papers as they can be off on that type of stuff). In that case the Sox can play around with him a bit next year and it makes Masset the guy to watch this off-season (They are going to have to be pretty confident in him to keep him, especially considering the other 5th starter options, and the fact that with a good finish to AAA he could still have decent trade value). I say this because I think the pen is almost finished (Wasserman, Logan, Jenks, Thornton, MacDougall, Bukvick all seem likely to stick). The two guys that could change are obviously Wasserman/Bukvick (if they struggle in the last month that could open up another spot, but again that spot could be filled by a number of Masset/Sisco/Floyd or someone else). As bad as our pen is, I kind of expect a lot of the same pieces to be back in the pen next year (the key is MacDougall and Thornton will have to step up there game again). And no, I'm not saying that will necessarily be a good pen but I still feel some of those guys are more than likely to have much better seasons in 2008. What we do with the pen is going to be one of the more interesting parts of the off-season. I think there's a good chance Thornton could be dealt if he doesn't pick it up (which he really hasn't all season), considering there was good interest from the Yanks in him at the deadline. Of course the only way we would trade him is if we could find a suitable lefty replacement. That guy could be Sisco, or a FA.
-
I ate there twice. Gage this is all your fault.
-
So Heads is Cook your new man now instead of Eggy? Sisco 2ER from 5.2IP, not too bad of an outing from him.
-
I forgot to add, is he more expendable than other arms in our system? Would you rather trade Lance Broadway instead of Sisco for instance?
