  1. Is Hopper your next version of Reggie Willits there beautsox? I just can't see a deal like that happening. Keppinger isn't rated that highly for starters and I don't know if he's that good defensively at SS, not to mention his lack of power offensively. And you know Wayne Krivsky loves his relievers. Cincinatti is definitely an option when it comes to trading Garland though.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) Alright, then you spice it up. Either throw in another piece, or lets say you pay 5 million of Jose's 09 salary. I really believe with the FA market for pitching, guys value are going to be way up. I just wonder if the Sox would be willing to do that (pay half of Jose's deal) in order to fill a need, or trade him to someone who can take the entire contract for less. What would the Brewers want in addition from us? Bullpen pieces maybe? Maybe some prospects etc.
  3. Oh and Tony, if there was any way we could make a Contreras for Hall type of deal, I'd make it in a second. I just can't see it happening, as although Hall's value will be down, Jose's will be even lower.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) Capuano would get rocked in the American League. I'd want a different player than Cap. I guess it all depends on how much value Garland actually has. Hmm, well I threw Cap in there not because I think he'd be the "best" acquisition, but because KW wants to win next season, and I struggled to find someone who would help us next season who the Brew Crew would give up. Would Dave Bush be a better idea perhaps instead of Cap?
  5. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) It'd be an upgrade, that's for sure. I'd prefer some other scenerios, but I wouldn't criticize a move like this, with knowing other moves would still be made. I actually wonder if the Brewers would be interested in Garland. Bush, Suppan, Vargas and Capuano all have ERA's above 4.5. Sheets is always injury prone as well. Would anyone be interested in say Hall and Capauno for Garland (just throwing it out there), instead of dealing Garland for prospects?
  6. According to Phil Rogers; Hall had a .899 OPS last season, but that's down to .256/.317/.428 (.744) this season. I don't know if the move to CF might have affected him mentally, and that carried over into the batters box? He'd cerainly be someone I would consider, but his Post ASB stats have really tailed off big time.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) No, I don't think he can play 2nd base, and I don't think we need a 2nd baseman anyway. We need a SS. Yep, if we're getting a .736 OPS from our 2nd baseman (at a cheap cost and the potential to get better) I don't think that's really an urgent need that we need to fill right now (compared to SS, CF and the pen). On Fields, hopefully he can improve in LF defensively in the off-season. But that shouldn't be the end all to be all to determine whether or not he plays there next season. Of course it's a major factor though.
  8. Fields could have around 25 HR's in 400 AB's this season. That's a 1 in 16 chance every time he's at the plate that he'll hit a home run, which for a rookie is quite amazing. He has some shortcomings obviously, but I think those can be fixed in the long run.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) I am drinking more though. Some correllation there? I like vodka.... Oh don't worry, we already knew that.
  10. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) I'm definitely in You better hope they serve Fairy Floss.
  11. Icons? No.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) I just wish that some posters would realize that if we have a high pick, and don't sign them....we get that same pick the next year. Also, I showed a list of recent college hitters that were drafted and made it to the pros very quickly. I believe we'll choose a college player in the 2008 draft. Still that's a year of wasted development that you could have used if you draft a player but don't sign him, so it's not the ideal situation. Everyone should be very happy with the outcome of tonight, even if you want this team to lose. Why? Jose Contreras. When was the last time he pitched a complete game and looked so good doing it? A team like Seattle may see that in think "He may have something left after all".
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) Ya know, I am starting to think otherwise. Contreras seems to have gotten back on track, finally, his last few starts. Looking good again tonight. If the early part of this season really was a glitch - and his odd behaviors seems to indicate such - then maybe he can be pretty good again. And the other, possibly more important point - Contreras would get very little in trade, if anything, whereas Garland will fetch much more. I am starting to think I'd rather they trade Garland than Contreras. I'm just very wary on hanging onto Jose though. I think this off-season, KW's #1 priority should be to trade Contreras for well anything, if another team will take that contract off our hands. I just think there's too many question marks in terms of his age, potential injuries, problems with delivery etc. for him to be a CONSISTENTLY good starter for us. Sure he may have a month every now and then where he is dynamite as he is tonight, but those are becoming less and less frequent. But still I think if the chance is there to really trade Garland for a good package, do it. If a team doesn't you offer anything good, I'd hang onto Garland instead of Contreras. Our team will be better in the rotation, and there's always the option of dealing Garland at the next trade deadline or getting picks for him. If you free up that $10M from Contreras's deal, you can use that money to fill other holes e.g sign that Cuban guy for CF, and that top Japenese reliever for the bullpen.
  14. There's not much point in winning right now obviously as you guys have said above. But you want to see the likes of Contreras and Floyd pitch well, you want to see the likes of Owens and Richar getting better offensively with each game at the major league level, you want to see Fields make better contact and show he can handle LF defensively. If we happen to win the games that Jose and Gavin pitch well in then so be it. I'd rather that than to lose because those guys gave up more than 5 runs in their starts.
  15. So at least Contreras is raising that trade value of his. I would rather that and win this game, than to lose and get 1 better spot in the draft. If that helps us move Contreras and save $10M, then I'm all for Jose pitching well and us winning his starts.
  16. They'll kill Sarah since she's no longer on the show. That will get Michael all pissed for revenge. Eventually he'll lose his brother as well. I'm calling it now, that Whistler dude will end being that bad bald guy's son.
  17. Felix your stupid celebrity thing said I most looked like Cary and Hugh Grant. I'm disgusted right now.
  18. I'm going to bump this, because of Joe Cowley's piece here for discussion's sake;
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 06:12 AM) Tank Johnson signs a 2 year deal with the Cowboys Shows how desperate we are for a 3-4 nose tackle to rotate with Jay Ratliff while Jason Ferguson is out for the season. And that's the spot Tank would play, even though he's never done it before.
  20. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) This is a big camp for Bourque and it appears he had a nice game tonight. I'm gonna say "think again" on the center ice blackout but that'd be sweet. Him and Brouwer may be competiting for 1 spot possibly. And that's quite interesting, because Brouwer is basically where Bourque was a couple of season ago, after they both had really good seasons for Norfolk.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 07:21 AM) Google Earth is the coolest thing ever created by humans. I've bookmarked every single place I've been on vacation overseas, in China, Malaysia and the U.S. So I've wasted many a hour on there. It's also pretty cool to look down on my house and see my car parked out on the street.

    I'm listening to the new Jimmy Eat World CD "Chase this Light". 1st impressions are pretty good. Don't think it's as good as Futures was, but it was always going to be hard to live up to that.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) Yeah, I'm not a big Norv Turner fan either, and I really think the Chargers are going to disappoint a lot of people this year. Probably a 10 win team just because of how ridiculous the talent level is on that roster, but it really wouldn't surprise me if Turner's gone after this season. Outstanding OC, bad head coach. I'd also assume he got the job simply because he was experienced and it was late in the offseason when Schottenheimer was fired. They really mismanaged the situation there by not ending up with Phillips or Cameron as their head coach. People may criticize Phillips' playoff record, but the guy knows how to run a defense very well, and his regular season record is really pretty decent.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Not sure why the Patriots needed to blatently cheat with this much talent, at all, just makes it more confusing. But damn they are good, and damn the San Diego offense has major issues. And yet Norv Turner is meant to be an offensive genius Could A.J Smith's ego cost this team a superbowl I wonder?
  25. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) DBAHO is Greg Ellis making any progress with his injury or is he still leaning towards retirement? Right now it's probably 50-50. He's been passed by Anthony Spencer on the depth chart at his spot. I wouldn't be at all suprised if he's going to retire right now. It just hasn't really improved enough since the surgery and rehab for him to get back out on the field. And it's a shame because he was really looking good at that OLB spot in the 3-4 before he did his achillies.
