QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) DBAHO, how do you think Redick would fare as a starter at SG over the course of a season? He'd be at least an average to above average SG in the NBA depending on the system and the players around him IMO. Basically he's Ray Allen lite, is the best way I'd describe him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) Really, I disagree. I think they'll storm through it. All this depth talk is overrated if Riley's only going to use a 8 man rotation.

Your friend Izzy was gonna get us into some fancy club / bar somewhere but that didn't happen. All I remember is it going downhill from there.

SHIPPS what was that 1st bar you took me too the night we went out drinking (with all of the girls getting absolutely trashed on St. Patty's Day W/K, that was quite good)?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) You've got a point there, that one still baffles me. The idea there was that Orlando didn't have any other bigs on the roster, and Otis would trade Gortat after a season (but obviously that may not happen now). I certainly don't think he was worth that contract though.

The Bulls are working out Adam Morrison in Vegas tomorrow also apparently via Alex Kennedy.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) I think you're missing the point a bit. It's not just the salary, they're so far over the luxury tax threshold that they'd be paying the league another $7 mil to the league. It'd essentially cost them $14 mil to keep Redick, which is pretty nuts if you ask me. Yeah I know the luxury tax implications, but I was just explaining what the actual contract was. Rich Devos is getting really old and really wants to see a championship. So in that sense, it wouldn't surprise me if we matched it. You have to remember with the Magic moving into a brand new building, they'll be generating more revenue going forward as well.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) How much would they have to pay Redick if they matched? It's 20/3 IIRC. Some of that is front-loaded I think (something similar to what Portland offered Paul Millsap before he re-signed with Utah).

People are speculating in Orlando that Otis Smith may still match the Redick offer. Q-Rich is getting the remainder of the MLE (the rest was given to Duhon) and he'll be starting at SF for us next season in place of Matt Barnes. That gives us 3 options at the wing spots now in Carter, Q-Rich and Pietrus, and that could still be 4 if Redick is kept. Nothing really surprises me with Otis these days, I thought there was no chance we matched Gortat's offer from Dallas last off-season and he did, so the same could still happen here. If we do that, then we'll be paying a LOT of tax this season, but we've got VC's expiring deal of about $16M to come off the books 1 season from now also.

Well gotta say I'm surprised bout that, but those contracts we gave out to Bass and Gortat last off-season are coming back to hurt us now. I think Q-Rich has played under SVG before, so that's prob why we've made the signing. I'll miss JJ, 2 years ago he looked like he'd be playing in Europe right now, but to his credit he worked his ass off to become a credible defender, and he's getting the rewards for it now.

This will get people talking; Good luck to the Knicks for trying to get enough assets to pull off a trade with the Hornets though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) One Magic reporter felt that the Magic will not match on Reddick due to the luxury tax implications. The Magic would be paying Reddick practically 38M (19 to Reddick and 19 to the NBA) due to those implications. Here's a good take on the situation by the best Magic blog out there in Orlando Pinstriped Post; I think we'll match, and then dump Gortat for picks plus a trade exception possibly.

Some moves were made last night. Hedo got traded to PHX for Barbosa. PHX also signed Childress to a 5/30 offer sheet. Diaw's gonna move to TOR for Calderon, and Chandler's going to TOR for PHX's trade exception they got in the Amare S&T.

Great stage today. Armstrong is done, crashed twice and couldn't get back to the leaders in the climbs. He finished around 7 or 8 mins back from the lead group. Andy Schleck won, Evans has the yellow jersey, Schleck is 20 secs behind and Contador's 3rd 61 secs behind.

Rich Devos is the Orlando owner, and he owns Amway. I think he's in his 80's, and pretty desperate to see a championship. And we're moving into a brand new building next season so we'll be making more revenue at least also. I think we'll match Redick's offer, let VC's contract come off the books next season, and JJ becomes our new starting 2 guard. SVG like JJ a lot, and if we have to, we'd probably trade Gortat for scraps if we needed to dump salary to keep JJ going forward.

I actually thought Matt Barnes would have been a better target for the Bulls than Korver if they were after a 3, he would have brought a little more toughness at least.
-

Can Korver even play at the 2? I thought he was more of a 3 guy. He'll get eaten up defensively though.

If re-signing Nik costs you the chance to re-sign Niemi, I'd take the 1st and 3rd and move on and try to sign another defender. But hopefully we can find a way to keep both going forward.

TT @ 5/40 isn't nearly as bad as say Amir Johnson's contract IMO. Whether or not he'll actually get the playing time to prove his worth in Charlotte is another question though.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Not drafted two points guard I imagine they'll probably trade Flynn now that it looks like Rubio's definitely going to come over. If they can trade Jefferson for a good SG, I like the makeup of that team quite a bit actually.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) you must have missed the word MANY, Joe Dumars, David Kahn, could go on for a while How are Dumars and Kahn idiots? Granted Dumars hasn't had a couple of good seasons, but he built Detroit into a NBA Championship team. In a couple of seasons, Kahn's loaded up the Wolves with quite a few good young assets to say the least. What else could he have done to make Minny any better?
