QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) They would be really good if Carlos Boozer's pussy would ever heal. He's been out for the longest. As soon as he's healthy, Boozer's ass is out of Utah assuming they can find a taker for him. Definitely has burnt some bridges with Sloan and Larry Miller, and I can't say I blame them. As for teams that will be interested, possibly someone like the Sonics (Radmanovic goes the other way, Flip Murray could also be an option), the Lakers, or even the Cavs again.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) I heard that one of the doctors described Sharon's condition as "grave". Yeah I heard on the news that he may not make it through surgery, and his chances of surviving aren't good.

So it's closers you dig, eh? Dustin Hermanson is your White Sox dream date. Show up in bell bottoms and maybe he'll let you shave a flower into his head.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) When the f*** did Blockbuster begin charging $8.00 for video game rentals? I haven't rented a video game from there in several months, so obviously it occured sometime during this transition period. It's unbelievable. I'm surprised never to have heard any public outrage concerning this. Sounds like Blockbuster trying to screw the consumers again. There I am waiting in a 20 minute line with Shadow of the Colossus in my hand, when I'm shocked to notice a $7.99 rental fee on the checkout monitor. The dufus behind the counter reacted like I was crazy when I asked him, "I thought video game rentals were $5.00?" Since I only came with five I couldn't even rent the game. They just lost my business. But you can still return it, like whenever you want right?

I thought this was quite interesting from what Patrick Sharp said (doesn't really bode well for Trent Yawney);

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Or maybe if Parcells leaves the Drew Henson experiment begins... he has had enough time to get re-adjusted to everything so unless he is a bust without ever getting a chance really... Drew's pretty much a lock to go to NFL Europe at this stage. Unfortunately, right now he looks like a bust. They changed his throwing action from the sidearm, but now they've gone back to it, because he's more comfortable with it, and seemed to throw better with it. At this stage, I'd say Bledsoe's pretty much a lock to be the QB in 2006. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Never heard of the guy... idonno why the mets value Seo so little he seem like he was dominating for awhile last season. You've never heard of Sanchez?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Is Pettiti a free agent? On a related note, is Larry Allen signed for another 20 years? As far as I know, he'll still be under our contract for 2006. But if you saw the way Leonard Little terrorised him in the final game of the season, and how important it is to protect Drew Bledsoe, improving at RT is the #1 need on this football team right now. -
Pretty much rules out the Dodgers trading for Contreras;

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) well I hope Hill doesnt retire than because im hoping the bulls can land Al Harrington and Nazr Mohammed... dont want your team with him We may target Harrington anyway even if Hill re-signs after reading this, although I'd expect Nene to be our 1st target;

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) well I hope Hill doesnt retire than because im hoping the bulls can land Al Harrington and Nazr Mohammed... dont want your team with him There was an internet rumor going around tonight about a Cato for Donyell Marshall trade. We'd probably have to throw in a pick, but I'd definitely do it. Marshall's a BIG upgrade on Pat Garrity.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) It is a combination of a punt and place kick. The kicker drops the ball and must kick it after or exactly when it hits the ground. Earlier and it is a punt, later it is difficult or impossible to control. We use to do it as a kids. It is kind of fun when you time it perfectly. Basically they use it heaps in Rugby, and to start the games off. And you when you really connect on a drop kick, it sounds sweet.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) Burke is a natural 2b but Biggio is still around. Yeah, so as actually it probably does make sense for the Astros to keep Taveras, in the sense if they trade him to let Burke play in CF for 06, then Biggio retires, Burke moves back to 2nd, and suddenly they need a CF (because Lane or Wilson ain't gonna get the job done defensively there). But I'd expect someone to get moved there. Tim Purpura's definitely up to something in terms of a big move.

Orlando showed something against the Pistons today, they'll be around for a playoff spot I'm pretty confident of that. But to move to the next level, they just simply have to trade Steve Franchise and get a better passing and defending PG in there. I think Keyon Dooling could be that guy, so I'd be willing to trade for a good young big right now in exchange for Francis. And if Grant Hill retires, we're going to be MAJOR players in free agency. I can see us targeting Al Harrington to fill the Hill void.

I mentioned Chris Burke earlier in the thread as a possible option, if they decide not to go after Taveras. With the Astros looking like they're going to sign Wilson to play LF like I said earlier, suddenly you've still got that logjam of Biggio/Burke and Taveras for those 2B/CF spots. Burke played 83 games in LF, 18 at 2B and 6 in CF in 05. He's versatile, and hits lefties well, which could be important, because Anderson really struggled against them in his brief time that he was up here (although I don't expect that to be the case in 2006). Just throwing out the possibility out there, if the Astros decide they want to keep Willy, but still want to make a run at Contreras. Now that they've signed a bat for their lineup, that may be the case, depending on their budget.

Yeah, keep the good thing going. I think most people enjoyed being able to look back on some of the old game threads as well.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) If you want to add character or performance under pressure as a measure, then that would just elevate Contreras another couple of steps in my mind. I'll grant you, he sure didn't seem to be that kind of pitcher in June of last year. But once he found his Cuban personna again, I don't think he's going to lose it for the rest of his career. Vazquez, on the other hand, seems to me like he's lost his way on the mound. 65 HRs in 2 years. Maybe he'll find his way again, and I hope so, and if he does, then I won't want to trade him. But until he proves it, he would be the guy I'd consider moving at the deadline if I the Sox have some major hole(s) to fill. Wouldn't you say exactly at this point 1 year ago, what you are saying about Javier Vazquez right now, is what you would have thought of Jose Contreras, based on the all important stats? How can you be sure that Contreras is definitely going to be able to pitch at the same high level that he pitched in late 2005 for the next few years at his age? If he leaves us, I doubt that will be the case. As for Vazquez, let's see if Coop can work some magic with him, like he's done with the rest of our starters. Just remember at mid-season 2005, a LOT of people wanted Jose Contreras traded for Jason Schmidt. Just a word of warning if Mr. Vazquez doesn't set the world on fire in the 1st half of 2006.

I want Governor George instead.

It looks like my contract at work is definitely going to be extended for a month at least, and possibly for quite a while after that. The department I work for is being taken over in Feb by a branch of a major bank down here (mainly because we've increased revenue by almost 33% in 2005), and the manager wants me to at least come and work at the new office until I have to go back to Uni. Of course there's 2 options from this, and I can just finish my studies this year and not worry about it, or I can go part - time for both in March if they want me to stay on after that, and I won't finish my studies until 2007. Of course since experience is so vital in the field I'm workin in (finance), most likely headin towards the latter at this stage.

Dave Littlefield is getting desperate. You knew they wanted a power hitting corner OF, but at least he's gotta be good right?

Should be interesting to see how Perez hits in Jacobs. Still looks like a fairly good signing for them, should fill a need.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Chris Young could start right off the bat if Shawn Green plays first base this year. I don't see Tony Clark starting even though he will because of last year. Their outfield right now is Byrnes, Gonzo, Green, and Young. If Green plays first base then Young should start right away because Terrero proved he isn't ready for the MLB. If Clark can play third base then Green plays first and Young starts. Who knows guess we will have to wait, their can still be some position changes that allows Young to start. Green's staying in RF. Personally I don't know if that was the right move, but Josh Byrnes really placed a premium on improving the defense up the middle (which is quite ironic cos they go ahead and sign Byrnes). I'd have Green in CF so you can play Carlos Quentin in RF. Also Conor Jackson is going to play at 1B with Tony Clark, and then you've got Chad Tracy at 3B like Wite said. I don't know if they can afford to move Gonzalez either. He's a HUGE fan favorite down there, and they didn't do that well attendance wise last season. He's in the last year of his contract, could be a bit of a public relations disaster if they traded him before then, unless he gave his approval to such a move, to try and win another world series.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) I certainly hope a .176 OBP is a fluke. He won't be playing in the majors for long if it isn't. IMO, he'll be pretty good eventually... but that might not be for a couple of years. Borchard was touted as better hitter than BA and, well, he still hasn't panned out. The difference b/w Borchard and Anderson is that Anderson has shown in his minor league career so far that he has a propensity to strike out less then Joe. He also had an OBP better then Borchard has put up in 3 minor legues seasons for Charlotte. Joe's also hit never hit higher than .272 since 2002 (all of those seasons in Charlotte). Brian hit .270 in B-Ham in the 2nd half of 04 (notorious pitching park), and .295 for Charlotte in 05. No-one's saying that Anderson's going to put up super numbers straight away. But if he can hit .250-.260 with 15-20 HR's, that's almost better then what we got from Aaron Rowand in 2005. I don't mind having Taveras, but there's the option of platooning Anderson with an OF, since Brian was terrible against lefties in his brief time up (but that's way too small of a sample size to go on), but Taveras wasn't good against them either. Looks like the Astros are signing Preston Wilson for LF. Wonder how this will affect what they do with Taveras.
