  1. Gotta stop the 3 headed monster, and Krstic's been playing very well at center so far. Should be a good game though.
  2. QUOTE(Yoda @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) The Eagles are making a mistake by suspending their only good receiver. Good luck against a good defense Sunday. Short term pain for long term gain. I applaud the stance the Eagles have taken here.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Great point on Blalock. I've always though very highly of him, but because of your post, you forced me to look at his stats on bb-ref. 94 OPS+ this year -- ick! Career high OPS+ of 118 -- that's good, but certainly not great. And, most importantly -- the past two years, he's had K/BB ratios of 149/75 and 132/51. Hell, his .749 OPS this year was WORSE than Joe Crede's. Wow -- he was a worse player than Joe Crede this year. That surprises the hell out of me... Yep, and don't forget Crede put up +.800 OPS's in 4 of the 6 months in 2005. As with all the other thoughts on Blalock, agree wholeheartedly. Stay away.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/columnists/askba.html I'd recommend you read this disclaimer, first: and Damn, the Diamondbacks are loaded. Jackson and Drew are going to be spectacular, Quentin has had awesome numbers throughout his whole minor league career (lowest OPS = .937), and if Upton pans out down the road... This team could be a force. Yep they are absolutely LOADED with top tier position prospects. Hell, Stephen Drew could be their opening day SS in 2006 depending on what happens with Royce Clayton. With Josh Byrnes saying he wants to improve their middle infield D though, with Drew still not that great defensively, I doubt it will happen, but it's an option. Still with all of their prospects, they'd want to improve their young pitching stocks.
  5. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) not only that but Wrigley is a home run park and we all know how good he is when he starts swinging for the fences. That is why he sucked in the 1st half. Simple recipe for Furcal to have success, put the ball in play; Pre ASB - .254/.310/.393 (45/29 K/BB ratio) Post ASB - .322/.394/.474 (33/33 K/BB ratio)
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) This the same team that completely shut down the best overall player in the game? (LT) And then got lit up the next week vs. Denver.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) No surprise that yahoo sports is reporting that the Twins are interested in Jim Thome. Obviosuly, as the brief summary pointed out, the Twins will need much of his salary paid by the Phils. We'll see what Gillick wants to do, and the relationship between how much the Twins are willing to pay vs. how much they are willign to surrender. While Thome will certainly be floated in rumors including the Chicago White Sox, The Anaheim Angels, the Seattle Mariners, and the BoSox (just to name a few potentials)-the Twins rumor makes some sense. How much will the Phillies want of the loaded Twins system (you can assume that Liriano would be off-limits-although who really knows?) Kubel and any other OF would seem to be of little interest to the Phils unless they were willing to depart with Bobby Abreu. But would the city of Philadelphia buy into a team that trades Thome and Abreu in the same offseason? From the Twins perspective, Thome gives you a ton of thunder when healthy but isn't it a problem that your three best players (Morneau-Mauer-Thome) are all left-handed? Hmm. This will be interesting to follow. If the Phillies eat 75 percent or more of the deal, I think Liriano is a Philie. Rotoworld was speculating Torii Hunter and Jason Michaels could somehow be part of the deal.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) He's accomplished 2 things in his pro career: 1.) Managed to take a good amount of $ from the Bears while starting 7 games over 3 seasons. 2.) Blocked a FG vs the Titans last year. Which lead to a game winning safety in OT for the Bears. He signed a 2 year deal as well, so he may possibly be our starting RT in 2006.
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) I agree. But being the Bears fan I am, and knowing that you are a Cowboys fan, isnt it fun watching the Eagles lay in the bed they made? How could they have possibly thought that anyone could make T.O. happy? Exactly, but Brett Favre alone doesn't make this football team any better. They're very susceptible against the run and pass now, Drew Bledsoe lit them up when we played them, and with no running game themselves, they often find themselves behind early in a lot of games, and force Donovan to pass all day long to try and catch up. Doesn't equal winning football, and in our division, I seriously doubt they're gonna make the playoffs. Have to beat Washington on Sunday Night.
  10. Great to see everything went well, and the baby is healthy. Congrats to Mike, Angie and Madison.

  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) Eh, it's not so bad. No worse than licking the inside of a week old sardine can at least. Whodathunk Colin Hay would have duped the world about the 'joys' of a vegemite sammich? Jim, don't make the Soxtalk general public hate on seafood now. You should know better.
  13. QUOTE(He Gawn!!! @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) Since the Sox bought out his contract, cant they resign him with a ton of incentive clauses. Like he has to play a certain amount of games? I dont see why not. And if that is the case, I cant imagine the Sox saying "HE GAWN!" to the Big Hurt. I love Frank, it would kill me to see him in another uni. Something like that probably seems the best option, or he'll get something around the 3-4M I'd say. My thoughts on Thomas put simply are this. History shows, he doesn't put up good numbers coming back from a major injury. He's almost at the end of his career, we shouldn't be relying on him sorely to be our DH. We need another good option in there.
  14. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Am I the only person here that would rather have Contreras than Teixiera? Contreras is a dominating starting pitcher, Teixiera a power-hitting first baseman. Which is more rare? Plus, if that trade takes place, that even opens up more money to spend. So would the Sox then spend it on a starting pitcher in free agency? Well you also have to look at it from the view that Contreras could be older than 35, and Tex is a lot younger than that and has his best years ahead of him. As for the Sox spending money on a FA SP, unless it was A.J Burnett, I'd doubt they do it in this weak FA market. They'd probably let El Duque start.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) I wonder how much Randa would cost. I mean, if Blum wants to sign with a team on the west coast, perhaps Randa could be had for cheap to back up Crede and whoever is our 1B next year? I dunno...I like Joe Randa. I don't think Randa would settle for a backup job, nor should he unless he wanted to play for a contender after the numbers he put up in 2005. There'll definitely be a market for him as a starter I'd say.
  16. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Asoxtalk.com+fock Oops;
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) I just hope that Bobby Valentine gets a managerial job again. I just really like that guy. I think the Dodgers will take a long hard look at him. Seems like McCourt wants some veteran winners in there.
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) I could see a deal of Contreras along the lines of Mulder and Hudson if the right prospects were involved. During the off-season, I don't think that's going to happen, you're basically putting up a white flag for the season, especially if Paulie leaves as well. Now if we're out of it at the deadline, I'd be all for a move like that.
  19. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) what is it about frank thomas that you dont like? you dont want the big hiurt back? (please dont respond to this with crunched numbers) There is more to life then just wanting a guy back. Look at Jeff Bagwell and the Astros. Sentimental value says Astros fans would want him back so they can see him win a ring. But at a value of $17M, is he worth it with a bum shoulder? Hell no.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Songo is a better defender than davis is at this point in his career and i view sweetney and curry as basically a wash defensively. We are better imo ... but it is by a very slight margin. Songo was an excellent pickup at the price you got him at. I wish we would have made an effort to sign him as our backup PF for Dwight, but we got Bo "I'll scrap for everything" Outlaw. Darius always produced in Sacramento when he was given minutes, and under Skiles he should do the same.
  21. Really if I'm McNabb i'm telling Philly Management either he goes, or I go. Talk about a cancer in the lockerroom.
