  1. I'll be ZZZZZZ unfortunately. 4AM ain't the best time to be watchin a baseball game.
  2. If we could get Chad Tracy for a package of El Duque, Sean Tracey and Daniel Haigwood, I'd make the move right now. That said, I think teams are going to want a guy like Contreras to move a real good player offensively. But KW's probably thinking about locking up Contreras for the next few years after next season anyways.
  3. If Rowand continues his 2004 output offensively, then Brian Anderson would be the better choice in CF. If he can produce at least to somewhat of a level of his 2003 but better than 2004, than Rowand would probably be the better choice for next season. That said, if a team like the Yankees which could really use a good defensive CF came along with a good offer for Rowand, I'd take it, and let Anderson start in CF.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Right now, I'd take a #3 hole hitter and then worry about the 4 hole. Where did I ever bash the payroll? All I'm saying is that its doubtful again to raise the payroll such a significant amount to be able to resign Konerko and other key additions. Really, do you want an offense like this years? You'ree neglecting one part of the offense to fill another. Iguchi can move down to the #3 spot if we get a #2 hitter. You lose Konerko, there's no-one who's gonna replace his output. Thomas comes off the books, so does Everett. That's about $10M free right there. You trade a Contreras in a deal for Chad Tracy, that's anither 6-8M saved right there. Payroll should go up by about 10M at least. Garland will get a raise for next season for about 2 to 3M, same for A.J. That leaves plenty of payroll room left for Mr. Konerko. Konerko has not been the problem with this offense. You take him out, how much worse would our offense be?
  5. I don't think Ozzie's handling of the offense has been the main gripe. It's been his use of the bullpen and starters and bringing in the wrong guy in crucial situations etc.
  6. Someone proposed on minorleagueball that if Ozzie bolts to Florida and Pierre leaves (don't know 100% if he's a FA), Ozzie may want Pods to go down an join him.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) How is that Pods' fault that his teammates can't get him over? Wouldn't you want to bring in a guy who can then. And that's my argument all along, it's easier to find a good player to replace Pods, than it is to find one who can replace say Juan Uribe. If you get Furcal, and then sign a Brian Giles, doesn't that look much better than what we have now with Pods and Uribe?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) And Pods .352 obp looks godly to what we would have had to put in the leadoff spot which probably would have been Aaron and his .329 obp. Carlos's obp is pretty ugly as well for someone in his spot. Well who knoes if Rowand would still have an OBP of .329. I tend to think he would have a better K/BB ratio, and a little higher OBP as he'd just be trying to get on base more instead of driving runs in. Even he said and I know irish71 remembers this, that he changed his swing a little after the San Diego series.
  9. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Nobody plays .850+ a full season. You have to admit they're playing over their heads right now, and making up for their poor first half quite well. Yeah I as talking about how they've played in the 2nd half, you wouldn't expect them to do it for a full season, but it's not suprising what they've done in the 2nd half with their schedule, and the way their offense and pitching has been going.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Totally dumb argument. 1.) You stated FANTASY baseball stats. 2.) No one knew who Vizcaino was huh? 3.) Stolen bases are overrated? I NEVER want to see you cheer in a game thread or anything about SB's then. How is getting 1/4 of the way closer overrated? Not to mention sometimes stealing 2 bases and getting 1/2 way there. What's the point in stealing a base if you're not going to drive them in from 2nd anyway? And without Pods SB ability right now, he's pretty much useless, even though he'll still get on base for ya.
  11. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) The pitching obviously isn't the same, but I see a big difference between the offense of the first 2 months and what we call our offense now. Remember Konerko was terrible in the 1st half of the season, so was Dye in the 1st couple of months etc. and Pods was doing good. Now it's vice versa.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Playing .900+ ball isn't over their heads? I agree, their offense is better than ours but not .900 better. And the question had nothing to do with Cleveland, I just wanted to know because our execution sucks. That's because Cleveland's pitching has been much better. You get good pitching with the way Cleveland have been hitting, they are going to win a lot of games. EDIT: And our execution sucks. Like Pods' bad BA/RISP. Just saying if we still had Carlos Lee with his good BA/RISP we'd be scoring a lot more runners from 2nd and 3rd.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Better season then Maggs had in 04. Not from 01-03, once those two got injured last year the team basically died. The point still is, if we had Carlos Lee hitting in the #3 spot, how many more runs do you think we would have scored? His .282 looks godly, compared to the way Rowand, A.J and Everett are hitting the ball in the #3 spot right now.
  14. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Remember when we held a lead in like the first 30 or so games of the season? Yeah, tell me Pods means nothing. Frank meant something too, though I will agree. But Pods means a lot as well. That's because we had good pitching. Remember when JG and MB were pretty much a lock to win everygame? We only had to score about 2 runs which is what we're still doing now.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Since you seem to have the stats...compare the 1st half Sox abg with RISP and 2nd half... That alone doesn't make up for the amount of runs scored. Cleveland has a better offense than us. They're offense isn't playing over their heads. What they did in the 2nd half AFTER guys like Boone and Martinez were hitting below .200 is remarkable.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) They had Frank and Maggs. And Jermaine Dye's had a better season than Maggs this year, and has pretty much hit for the same power for about $8M less. Thomas and Everett, well Everett after the 1st half has pretty much stunk.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) White Sox 1st half offense = Indians 2nd half offense Your joking right? Cleveland have scored 36 more runs than us. If you remember how bad they were in the 1st half of the season, what they've done in the 2nd half far outweighs what we did in the 1st half.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) No. Let me add that I was against the trade when it happened as well. Carlos is having an overrated season if you ask me. I was never a huge fan of his to begin with but if you swap those two it's the 01-04 offense minus Maggs and Frank, plus a subpar rowand and uribe. We'd be worse imo but that's jmo and I know a ton of people disagree. Carlos Lee is hitting .282 with RISP. That'd be pretty damn valuable right now. And don't forget the 01-04 offense put up more runs than the one we had this season. It's all been the pitching.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Your still not getting it. Like Yahtzee said, do we have to fit the mold of every toher team? LF is NOT a vital "power position." You get power from where you have it and you get defense from where you have it. Why do you think a team like Cleveland's offense has become so good then? And I know you're going to say Travis Hafner, but don't tell me you wouldn't want Grady Sizemore and Coco Crisp over Scott Podsednik and Aaron Rowand then? And it's not like our offense is fantastic anyways.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) But that's my point dbaho. We have power everywhere as it is, it's ok to have a slap hitting left fielder. Not everywhere. Rowand and Pods have 12HR b/w them. Not good enough in 2OF positions. Right now would you still want Carlos Lee back over Scott Podsednik?
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Your not getting it. The comparisons are not things youd expect and that is why your vital power in LF point is moot. Pods has 0 Hrs but 60 SB's while Kent hits 40 Hr's and 100 RBI's. Those are not numbrs youd expect from people in their respective positions. The fact that im stating is that it doesnt matter what position you play DEFENSIVELY and it doesnt affect your ways OFFENSIVELY. Doesn't that make Kent for more valuable than Pods then? Like I said before, SB's alone don't make up for the other bad parts of his game.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) Why is that again? Because other offenses may not hav Konerko/Crede/Uribe/Iguchi in the infield that could hit for almost 100HR's in a season. Look at the NL for example. Teams like Arizona and Florida rely on their corner OF's for production in the middle of the lineup. It's easier to find a better power hitting corner OF than to find a power hitting IF for example.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Carl Crawford is an athletic freak. He is about as swole as a body-builder yet as fast as a cheetah. Bad comparison. They're both leadoff hitters in an OF position. What is a good comparison for Pods then?
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) That makes no sence. Playing a position in the field has NOTHING to do with how they bat. Scott Podsednik LF and Jeff Kent 2B. Compare the 2. Juan Pierre CF and Andruw Jones CF. Compare the 2. Or Jason Kendall C and Adrian Beltre 3B. Compare the 2. Did I say if Pods played 2B then he'd hit for 50HR then? Can you answer my original question as well, about the other corner OF's in the league that have hit for 0 HR and have an OPS higher than .705?
