  1. That ain't good. Looked like they were goin to get to JG eventually.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) You have to face the facts that baseball is a business. If these "relationships" were such a huge deal, then how is our release of Shingo perceived? Or how about when we let Frank, and Konerko walk? The fact is, the players on your team are the only opinions that matter. Trading Dye right now is a smart move, Anderson is ready, and we could use the money to get a bigger FA to play 1B or the middle IF. We may also need another bullpen arm. These are pieces of the puzzle that mean more than what someone thinks of you team. Every team makes moves like this, its a business, not high school. The odds of Dye putting up a good season next year will be better than Shingo at this time last season, simply because the Cell is heaven for HR hitters. Dye should be around next season, he took less money to come here and dealing him before his contract is up won't look good to potential FA's who want to sign with us. If Anderson is going to replace anyone, it should be Pods or Rowand.
  3. Jon looks good so far. Only 1 ball out of those 8 pitches.
  4. Paulie!!! That was a bomb to center. Great start guys!!!
  5. And after Burnett ripped McKeon, well the possibility is certainly there; Sounds like the team wants a positive manager. Someone like Ozzie Guillen.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) Actually while it scored a lot I think your OC should be more in trouble. You guys really call a lot of questionable plays and than to top it off going for it on 4th down was by far the dumbest mistake of the season. Im not just going on about this game 2 the OC made some bad play calling in that 4th quarter against the Redskins too. That would be Sean Payton. He's in his 1st year with us since Maurice Carthon bolted to Cleveland to join Romeo Crennel. Payton's more of a high risk, down the field type of guy compared to Parcells' control the ball smashmouth policy. Payton was the Giants OC before he Fassell took over the play calling duties. I've been happy with the offense so far though, besides the rushing where we do a better job of getting Julius Jones going. He should do well against Oakland though.
  7. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) It's nice to have that in our back pocket. Like they say, it doesn't matter HOW you get there, so long as you get there. Winning the division isn't automatically going to give us a better chance at making the World Series than if we win the Wild Card. We have a better record in away games to home games anyway.
  8. Yep. I'm also noticing the "pessimists" of the site haven't been around much in the last 3 days. Don't think they'll be around for the next 4 either.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) Well according to him even though the Steelers were winning most of the game and lost on a last 2nd fg they were being dominated by the Pats so I guess they would of lost in OT anyways As for Dallas the good thing you guys on defense is make adjustments on half time and held the 49ers to just a TD in the 2nd half. Although your defense looked really bad rush and pass. I think Mike Zimmer (the DC) in's a little bit of trouble ATM. He's never used the 3-4 before, and if the struggles continue, even though he's held in very high regard, Parcells might try to bring in one of "his" guys. But we got away with one today, and have got to perform better against an Oakland team that really pushed Philly today.
  10. So Orton had 5 INT's today. Did the Bengals just put a whole lot of pressure on him in terms of blitzes, or did Kyle just make some mistakes out there? Give credit to Cinci though, Marvin Lewis is taking them places.
  11. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) I haven't seen too many Cowboy's games this year yet. Has Newman improved? He was toast far too many times last year for a guy with his size and speed. He should be a shut down corner in this league. The 1st 2 games, everyone threw Anthony Henry's way, and he did a good job against it. I think they were going to throw more balls Newman's way this week. I think most people thought last year was the "Sophomore Slump" for him, and he would come on more this season. We hired a Secondary Coach for the 1st time, and with the better pass rush we should have, it should only help him.
  12. So we dodged a HUGE bullet today, coming back from 12 down in the 4th to beat San Fran. The defense took a big step back from last week which was very dissappointing. Giving up 269YDS and 3TD's to Tim Rattay isn't acceptable at all. And giving 125 yards from 25 rushes ain't good at all either. Julius Jones hasn't gotten it going yet, so that's still a positive sign, 26 rushes 85 yards, 3.3 per carry. that will improve. San Fran was always going to play 8 men in the box today anyway and blitz to try and make Bledsoe beat them. And he did. 363 YDS passing, very nice indeed, even with the 2 INT's. But I'm hoping Parcells and Mike Zimmer are still giving it to the them, especially the defense. We can't play football like that, and expect to go higher than 8-8. Why we're giving up so many big plays, I don't know. Yeah Roy Williams ain't good in coverage, but Newman, Henry and Glenn are 3 quality starting CB's.
  13. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) You can say get used to American style hockey after the first season. He's going on his third over here and still getting beaten in open ice and routinely coughing up the puck at the blueline. I dont think American style hockey has anything to do with that. Awareness and positioning shouldnt be a problem for a top 10 pick and such a big guy. I'm not cutting him too much slack this year, if he disappoints again in Norfolk, package him for picks. He wasn't a top 10 pick, wasn't he drafted at 23? And yes I would also stay away from drafting Russians from the luck we've had with Yakubov, Vorobiev and now possibly Babchuk. That's why you saw Tallon take Jack Skille, a change in philosophy if you will.
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) If he actually got touches, we would see how good he is. Yes, but when Denny Green would like Michael Bennett on a long - term deal, doesn't that also tell you something on the impression Arrington has made on him so far?
  15. So yes with Everett most likely not going be back next season, who's the DH going to be? I'd still like Durazo on an incentive laden deal, or even Nomar if he was willing to split time at DH/3B/SS, so that Uribe could still be that super utility guy, but that's not going to happen. Of course Overbay and Tracy would be the 2 main trade targets. I think this shows how important it is to keep Konerko as well, you can't lose Everett, Thomas AND Konerko. That's potentially 80-100HR's in a season right there. Other guys worth mentioning, Mike Piazza, J.T Snow, Daryle Ward, Reggie Sanders, Jacque Jones, Juan Encarnacion, Jose Cruz Jr., and of course Brian Giles. Of course a trade with the SP could be possible if Naoyuki Shimizu would still like to join us from Japan, or better yet, Daisuke Matsuzuka.
  16. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Yep, you're correct, but IMO he's been a disappointment. I expected him to be with the big club right now and being a major contributor. I think it's the curse of the Keith Jerseys, I'm pretty sure he has a Babs one to go with JoeBo. Hopefully it wont be the same scenario lol. But he was supposed to be excellent and still has that chance, but he's already been passed up by Barker and Seabrook and I think Barinka outplayed him in the preseason as well. He was always going to take a bit longer to get used to the American Style of Hockey. He needs to work on things like his awareness, positioning etc. but I still like him with that slap shot of his. But yes, with Barker, Seabrook, Keith, Barinka probably all going to be fixtures for the next decade, Babchuk needs to have a good year down at Norfolk. Pavel Vorobiev too, wherever he is.
  17. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I really liked Babchuck. How long had he been in our minor league system? He was in Norfolk for the last 2 seasons IIRC.
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) I agree with you about them being overhyped, and I overhype them (I continue to be stubborn and pick them each week to win), but Arrington has only run the ball 4 times, and has 22 yards, which is 5.5 yards per carry. If he actually got touches, we would see how good he is. That's way too small of a sample size to get a read on someone. If Denny Green started Marcel Shipp over him, you know Arrington's not ready.
  19. Bacbhuk's been cut along with 13 others. Keith, Barker and Seabrook fighting it out for the last 2 D-Man spots. Yawney said Keith's been the most consistent so far.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Crede is not even one > better than rowand. You want to be strong up the middle ( catcher, short stop, second, center) and why would we want to get rid of one of the best outfielders in baseball period unless we get a big bat in his place. Delgado is not that big bat. The marlins have no intention on trading delgado after signing him to a 4 year deal with an option for a fifth... even if some have speculated that. Podsednik's and dye's range make up for the loss of rowands? Dye has vitually no range and whatever speed podsednik has is countered by him running in on balls that are past him and going back on balls in front of him. Seen very little of anderson in the field and what i have seen leaves me no reason to believe he will be better than rowand in center... once more one of the best in baseball. Anderson could and most likely will be worse than rowand in his first professional year. He will strike out 150+ times in his first year with a ops around .725-.775 ( i think i am being generous). Rowand's got an OPS around that projection for Anderson this season qwerty. Anderson looked good in the games he played while he was up in the OF, 1 play in LF where it looked like he had no chance, he made it to the corner wall and somehow caught it. I know everyone loves Rowand's defense, but for me, his OPS has to at least get back up to .800+, and the K/BB ratio MUST decrease from 4:1, for him to be an everyday player. If a team like the Yankees who could really use his defense in center came up with a real good offer, I'd take it. Dye could always DH or 1B if we signed an OF like Brian Giles anyways (but yes I know that's unlikely).
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Brown 2 less RBI with 15 less home runs? wow. Brown has a higher batting average. He has a higher OBP. Brown 88 runs created, Dye 72 runs created. Brown 18 win shares, Dye 15 win shares (that's with Dye's inflated and Brown's deflated.) They both suck in the field. 05 Brown > 05 Dye. Not even taking salary into consideration. Brown's been hitting in the cleanup spot because KC has no-one else to put there. Dye's hitting at #6. If Dye hits at #4 for KC, how many more RBI would he put up with the likes of DeJesus and Sweeney in front of him? But like Gene said, the chances of Brown putting up another season like this are slim to none. If you take away Dye's bad start, he'd have a .300+ AVG as well. After Brown's May and June, he's only hitting around the .270's with pretty weak power.
