QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) For the money brown>>> dye. No? Yeah, but Brown's not a better player than Dye. Besides, it's not like Dye's contract is breaking the bank here.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Too bad we didn't sign Emil Brown. He's from Chicago, makes less than 1/10 of Dye's salary, and has actually been better than Dye this year. I don't agree with that. Dye has 15 more HR's than Brown. He has a better slugging percentage. He has a better arm than Brown. I don't think Brown's going to put up the same numbers next season as this one though, this is the only time in his career, he's been effective in the major leagues.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) "Through two starts and two relief appearances, totalling 10 2/3 innings, the organization's top lefty prospect has 17 strikeouts and four walks." 17 strikeouts?????? Sounds like it could be golden sombrero day at the cell. Here's hoping Mark steps up and the Sox pull out another nail biter. Yep. Remember what San Francisco gave up for A.J Pierzynski? Joe Nathan, Francisco Lirano, and Boof Bonser (11-9, 3.68 ERA in AAA, 168/57 K/BB ratio). OUCH. :banghead

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) That freaking rookie is Francisco Liriano. Whatever you do, just don't look at his numbers in the minors so far this year. Please. HAHA. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title. He's Johan Jr. basically. 5 years ago from now, we'll be telling ourselves "He was just some freaking rookie".

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) 18th sellout this season... Yep, so the payroll should be going upwards next season.

Yep, I don't live in Chicago (obviously), so I don't know what it's like with the Cubs, the history, the idiotic fans etc. So I generally tend to stay out of these things. If you aren't living in Chicago, I don't think you can comment 100% exactly on it.

So as for coaches on the hot seat right now, Norv Turner would be right up there. Can't see them having any chance in Philly, and they'll be 0-3 after this week. With home games coming up against Dallas, San Diego and Buffalo, they need to win at least 2 of those. Don't think it will be happening though, tightening the noose around Norv's neck. Looking at the Cardinals, man are they going to have an awesome passing attack for the next decade, depending on who's at QB. Fitzgerald has developed into a monster, and Boldin would easily be a #1 receiver on a 1/3 to half of teams in the NFL. Kurt Warner's done ok so far, racked up a lot of yards, hasn't done a good job in the red zone or protecting the football though. Kind of like Drew Bledsoe, they'll rack up yards, but protecting the footbal and red zone conversion is going to be ABSOLUTELY crucial, if those teams want to go above .500 this season. -
Before the season began, I remember Gene Honda Civic predicted that Dye could go .280/30HR/100RBI's due to the Cell Factor. Well after tonight, he's hit the 30HR mark and is hitting .273 with 84RBI's. For $4,000,000 this season compared to other RF's making about the same amount or more; Richard Hidalgo - .211/.286/.412 ($5,000,000) Casey Blake - .240/.311/.442 ($2,250,000) Jeromy Burnitz - .260/.326/.439 ($4,500,000) Jacque Jones - .251/.323/.446 ($5,000,000) Aubrey Huff - .262/.320/426 ($4,916,667) He ranks 7th in OPS for qualified RF's and is 2nd in SLG behind Vlad. He's been a great pick up to replace Maggs.

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Yea, I realize it, but when comparing Konerko and Overbay, I would rather Konerko's 40 HR and 25 2b than Overbay's 20 HR and 35 2b. Then again, adding Tracy would even it out. Another problem I have with this deal is the defense. This deal takes alot away from our defense, and this team is built around pitching and defense. Without Crede and Uribe at SS and 3b, we would probably allowed alot more runs/hits this year (depending on who is in their place), and Konerko is great at picking balls out of the dirt. From what I know, which isnt much, Overbay and Tracy are DH's if they were in the AL. Also, if they do add Furcal, he should hit 9th, not 2nd. Iguchi is perfect for the #2 spot, rather than the #3 spot. Don't you think Iguchi could hit 20+ HR's if was moved into a run producing spot?

GOOD JOB LEW!!!!!
-
Good pitching. Check. Good hitting. Check. Everyone should be happy.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) I disagree that unhappy, pissed people, pretending to be happy is better. Clear it up today, don't keep it in. I'm not talking about how Everett feels. We're trying to win a World Series. If OG thinks that Carl Everett can't contribute in the #3 hole anymore (which the stats prove), then he shouldn't be there anymore regardless of reputation/results etc.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) We have crap happen all the time we don't like in our workplace. Either deal with it man to man or STFU and stop complaining. I disagree with you on this one, Tex. Especially when it's for the BETTERMENT of the team here.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Well supposedly he has bulked up a lot this off-season because he was being pushed around last season. He also added another move on offense when he drives in so we will see how he is this season. Iggy is like the exact opposite he is a great defender but his offense consists of dunking the ball. Iggy still shot .493 from the field though last season which is very good for a SG. I just think long - term he's got more scope to improve then Gordon, don't get wrong, Gordon's a very good player though.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Don't worry about that Garland and Contreras are signed through next season. I think everyone knows what our starting rotation will look like in 2006: Buerhle Contreras Garland McCarthy Garcia It should go in that order also. Garland's not signed for next season. He's arbitration eligible for next season like Joe Crede, but he doesn't have a guaranteed contract....... yet.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) Well, at least this guarantees Everett won't be back next year. I'm proud of Ozzie for doing the right thing in this case. Of course, he'll probably be in the lineup tonight, which he should be. Everett has been amazing vs Mays in his career. But Ozzie never looks at the stats remember? (Or is that just for pitching?)
-
Interesting Statement here; The Red Sox and Angels look to be the 2 teams most interested in him.
-
Really good chance for the bats to get going against Mays who's been terrible in about his last 5 outings.
-
With the way Detroit have quit, it's pretty much INEXCUSABLE if we don't take all 4 games from them, even with the way we've been going lately.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) I have to rethink this whol coastal living situation. Yeah I'd be thinking long and hard about that right about now if you well living on the coast. It's just something that were probably going to see a lot more of in the future unfortunately.
-
Right now would you still have Ben Gordon over Andre Igoudala? I know everyone loves the impact BG has coming off the bench, but long - term is he ever going to be good enough defensively, so those good SG's don't score heaps on him?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I still believe that Roy Williams will end up at OLB sooner or later. His coverage skills just plain stink, but he has the speed and hitting ability along with good enough size to dominate at OLB. Yeah, they moved him to SS this season, he was the FS when Woody was the SS. As the 8th man in the box, he's the best run stopping safety in the league, I've got no doubts about that. When in coverage, the Boys go cover 2 which they do quite a lot of, he just ain't good. That's why it's so important they need Keith Davis the FS to step up, as they need one who's really good in coverage. -
Chad Tracy - .299/.350/.536. Age 25, can play 1B/3B/OF. Home and Away Splits are almost identical, and he's still about .280/.290 from the ASB. Making $335,000. Lyle Overbay - .278/.370/.458. 3 Years older, weaker power stats, known for being a 1st half hitter. Just asking, if the asking price for Tracy and Overbay was pretty much the same (and it could be, since these 2 teams need young pitching / bullpen help), wouldn't you rather Tracy instead of Overbay?
