QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) CON...SID....ER For not very long.

Fact. You will give up far more in a trade for Lyle Overbay than Chad Tracy. Have a look at their splits; Tracy - .302/.345/.515 Overbay - .276/.381/.466 Tracy's only 25 and has been in the majors for what just over a season. Very important when it comes to controlling his rights. Arizona has Tony Clark and Conor Jackson coming up for next season. They have a big logjam, coupled with their need for pitching, they make a good trading partner.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I'll worry about winning now, and then worry about the measly 5 million we would owe Omar in 2007. People are always going to say that, but the fact is the Sox weren't willing to offer him a 3 year deal in the off-season, and they won't want to pay $5 million in 2007 for a SS that may not even start every day. If the Giants pay a little of his deal (which they probably won't) however........

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Why do you laugh at Lopez? Also, Feliz is not a SS. I would take Lugo and Vizquel over Uribe in a heartbeat. The only thing more overrated than Uribe's defense on this board is Iguchi's batting in the 2nd spot. I'm not laughing at Lopez, I'm laughing because there's no way in hell Cinci would give up Lopez, considering he's cheap and plays in an important position.

Chad Tracy. Now there's an option, for all of those who Mr. Overbay.

QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) J. Lugo(good speed) O. Vizquel(good #2 hitter and GREAT D) P. Feliz(dont really know how good of a feilder but got some pop) F. López(my choice but reds wont part UNLESS ) Lugo - Sucks Defensively. Vizquel - 3 year contract. Always going to be an issue. Feliz - Doesn't takes many walks. Has an OBP of .309. Lopez - BWAHAHAHAHA.

QUOTE(OilCan @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Also, good pickup for the Rockets getting Swift. So their starting 5 is McGrady-Swift-Yao-Sura-???, crud, I forgot who's their 2. :banghead David Wesley.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) That's not a bad contract if the Giants pick up the remainder of this year and the signing bonus. We can always turn around and trade him, too after this year or next. Milkman...c'mon, you know that even though they SAY they will do anything to win this year, that's not what management is THINKING. If Vizquel doesn't perform well next season, it's going to be hard to trade an old shortstop who's making $4,000,000 to someone. And yes we're going for it this year, but the Sox don't want to tied into a long - term deal like Ken Griffey Jr. It also impacts into their future plans with Crede and Uribe.
-
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) If the Giants are willing to pick up a good portion of his contract, say half, then why not? He could be a Sandy Alomar Jr. type...a SS and in-dugout infield coach. Uribe, if we decide to keep him, will be super-utility/Crede replacement. I don't think the Giants are going to pay any of his deal, hence why I asked the question. Here's his contract FWIW; 3-year deal worth 12.25M signed on 11/14/04 thru 2007 season- + he receives salaries of 2.5M in 2005, 4M in 2006 and 4M in 2007- + 1.75M of a signing bonus is deferred till 2008-2009 (1M paid in 2008 and 750K in 2009)
-
The Sox have got to decide whether or not its advantageous to acquire Vizquel right now, when they wouldn't offer him a 3 year deal in the off-season. Sure he probably contribute next season, but what about in 2007?
-
The Sox had the best record last season when Aaron Rowand hit 7th in the lineup. He just doesn't have enough power for the #3 spot at this point in time. If he picks it up to last season's form, then yeah he should be in the #3 spot.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) You are a fool if you think that Gooch is better than Castillo. But the Marlins are never going to trade Castillo anyway, so there's no real point to argue about him. They probably even trade Juan Pierre before Castillo.

Anyone getting tired of Larry Brown?
DBAHO replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Knicks won't make the playoffs next season anyway even with Larry Brown as coach. -
I don't know what the feeling is in Britain yet, Tony Blair the PM is due to speak shortly, but I first hand from down here a lot of Aussies are really starting to get worried about the possibility of a terrorist attack down here, we're really the only major allied country out of the big 3 that hasn't had one yet, and hopefully it stays that way. Looks like 1 guy is on the run, as I'm getting reports here on the news, ahh looks like they've arrested someone just now.

Uribe makes more than Rowand in his 3 year deal. Just some food for thought.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Yes, you are so right. I mean, look at what B-Mac has done in the majors. And BA has been so awesome in the majors too. Look, there's no such thing as overpaying for a World Series Championship. And you need to watch some more baseball if you really think that D-Lowe's ERA over the last month has anything to do with who he is and what he brings to a team. Did you even watch the playoffs last year? We all know B-Mac wasn't ready, so there's no real point in using the B-Mac in the majors argument. And yes we all saw what Lowe did in the playoffs, but is it a guarantee that he's going to pitch like that again especially when his regular season stats are not great to say the least? At least someone like Jason Schmidt has had good form leading up to the deadline. And have a look at Lowe's splits compared to an un-named pitcher (I'll let you all try and guess which one it is). (Lowe is #1 BTW) BAA: 1) .284 2) .228 ERA: 1) 4.18 2) 4.34 WHIP: 1) 1.36 2) 1.30 HR: 1) 18 2) 17 Away Games: 1) 0-5 2) 3-2 July: 1) 0-2, 9.22 ERA 2) 2-2, 5.09 ERA

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) He spent one year in low A and is in his 1st in high A. He hasn't set the world on fire with any of his stats. He's a decent prospect. If he can keep this production up in AA, he'll rocket up the charts in my book. I just don't think he's that good. Ahh my bad, I thought he had an extra season in A some form of A ball. Still he's only 21 and has 6 more home runs already than he hit for Kanny last season, so he is progressing. His BB/K ratio is also way better than season too.
-
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I don't see the need to promote him anyway. Not with the current circumstances at least, but I'd like to see how he would handle AA ball, he's been stuck in low A and high A for a few seasons now.

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Munoz pitched well, now 5-10 but has an ERA of 3.68, Charlotte wins 3-2 http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...rocaaa_chraaa_1 Munoz has seemed to pitch a whole lot better lately, but long - term he should still be a reliever.
-
Batista hasn't been that great this month, so hopefully if we do trade for him he will pick it up. He does have a 1.80 ERA away from the Dome though which is a positive sign.
-
Gio keeps the K's coming, hopefully his ERA comes down below 4 for the Warthogs by the end of the season though. Schnurstein's also an interesting guy to look at. He's ready for B-Ham, but stuck behind Josh Fields, so we prob won't see him there until next season. Has splits of .286/.355/.450 with 12 HR.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) If Rowand was on a team like the Rangers, Yankees, or Red Sox, he'd be the perfect CF for that team. However, on a team where you have a few other players who are defensive players (Crede and Uribe this season), his lack of offensive production sticks out a little more. The only recommendation I'd give Ozzie is to not be afraid to bench Rowand against RHP pitchers will real good sliders. Rowand doesn't adjust very well to the ball moving away from him. He had that big weakness at the start of last season where he just couldn't hit anything at all that was low and away. Looks like he still may have that problem.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) I'm not so much worried about his defense as I am his offense. I wholeheartedly agree.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) If the price for Guardado and Wagner are 2 high Id love to have Batista in our bullpen. Hence why I've said he's a perfect option for us to trade for. Has great splits as well.

Not giving up B-Mac in a Schmidt is a good idea at least in my mind, I don't mind giving him up in a Burnett deal on the condition that A.J signs a long - term deal with us ALA Freddy Garcia. But as beck said, if Schmidt leaves at the end of next season, you've got about 3 to 4 cotracts in our rotation will be up, and B-Mac will probably be required to come into one of those roles. I don't mind giving up Brian Anderson for Schmidt at all though however.
