QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) Kerry Wood? Jose Contreras suddenly doesn't sound so bad does he.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) I was actually thinking tonight that Soriano could be the big offensive weapon we needed. Texas is at .500 now, and looks to have a slim chance to win the wild card. With the Rangers needing pitching, I'm sure McCarthy would be intriguing to them. If we were to acquire Soriano, we could switch him between 2b and DH. If people complained about Paul Konerko, what about Alfonso Soriano, his .318 OBP, .230/.270/.382 away from Texas, and 74/18 K/BB ratio?

QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) I like looking checking the minor league boxes to familiarize me with what certain players are doing. I saw the boxscore in last nights game that showed ROgowski was the catcher. Is this a fact ? I hope he does well he may be up quicker if he can make the transition. In last night's game he wasn't, he was playing at first base. You may have been confused becaused they had a C right after Rogowski.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) if the dodgers are offering Odalis perez and we are not taking i would call that when two fools meet one for offfering and one for not taking them up on their offer. What would you offer for a pitcher that is bound to go on the DL at least twice a season and isn't clubhouse friendly?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) I dont mind a guy who hits better at home than the road, but at least be respectable on the road....Its all I ask for and Konerko cant do that and obviously hasnt hit well with RISP either. Unfortunately since we play half our games at the Cell, things like that are more likely to happen now and in the not so distant future unless they move the fences back. Look at Jermaine Dye away splits, not many people are really complaining about that.

Gooch 1 for 2 with 2 walks in his last game, that should quiet down the haters. And of course he had 1 of those most IMPORTANT doubles.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Why dont you look at his road stats.... While just looking at them makes them seem all nice if you consider the fact he only showed up for half our games it isnt as pretty. I rather have a guy hit .277 with 30 HR's and only 100 RBI's but is a consistent presence on the road and on home. Problem is it's just hard to find a guy like that. Hence why IF Paul Konerko moves on, a guy like Chad Tracy who has better road splits than home splits would be an ideal target.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) I bet this thread hits better with RISP than Paulie does. But of course that's the ONLY stat you're going to focus on here, I guess since he hasn't hit any triples he's just not good enough to be a regular player. Take away Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko leads this team in OPS. How do you think teams like Boston, Detroit, Toronto and Cleveland who have the likes of Kevin Millar, Ben Broussard, Eric Hinske and Dimitri Young feel? "We feel great because we don't have PAUL KONERKO 111111!!!!!"
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) f*** Frank. His had a great career with the White Sox. But for this team he just cannot help anymore. He's more valuable as a PH than a Regular Batter. Everett should play a lot more DH, and Ozzie knows that. So a guy with a OPS of .905 just can't help us? Right-io.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) BTW, I really, really do hate Wirtz more than anyone, but just reading TSN and rotoworld, and almost half the teams having to buyout or decided which stars to keep and who to let go, the Hawks did a great job of putting themselves in the position there in. They can go to seller dweller to playoff ready very fast. They've got no excuse NOT to get a top 6 forward this off-season. -
Does anyone remember who our LAST 3rd base coach was and what happened to him?
-
Rowand's OPS has increased by about .20 over the past few games, he needs to keep the hot streak going. After the All - Star Game however he has a 1.169 OPS (that was before today though). There's two things I'd like to see Aaron do more, obviously hit for more power, and start taking more walks. He has 1 this month, for a grand total of 17 this season. But his AVG has also gone up about 20 points, which shows the streak he's been on.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) Well, myself and someone else (DBAHO, perhaps) could tally everything up, check each other's numbers, and then send the figures to you for insertion on the website instead of you having to do everything solo. Yeah I helped Spiff won one week with some html stuff on those picks, so I'll help out again this season, since it's always good fun.

Official NFL Season Predictions

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) Vikings will be worse. No Moss + No Linehan = 0 Offensive Production. They cannot succeed without those 2 offensively. Williamson is no Moss. On Paper, the Vikings D is pretty good looking. WRONG. Pat Williams cant play more than 2 plays in a row, he's out of shape no matter what. The LB corps still is trash, even with Nap Harris on the Outside. Sam Cowart in the middle is gross. The DE's are young, and could be good, Udeze and James got serious upside; but James specifically has injury problems. Depth at DL on that team thought is amazing. Kevin Williams is probably the best defensive player in the division minus Urlacher. The thing thats terrible is the secondary. Maybe the worst in football. Smoot was tied the most burned CB in the NFL (Cleveland CB Gary Baxter was the other). Winfield is the best run support CB in football and decent in coverage. Barring Williams and C-Pep he's the best player on that team. Darren Sharper? LOL. Puh-leeeze. The Lions will win this division because Harrington cannot go wrong with those WR's. The Bears will make the Wild Card, b/c the balance of power between the AFC and NFC didnt change this offseason. The NFC still blows. Tice has promised they'll be more of a running team this season anyway, and they do have Culpepper at QB, he's always getting better, so I think they'll still be fine on offense. Pat Williams is one of the best run stuffing DT's in the whole league. That's why they signed him, they don't want him on the field on third down, they've got Kevin Williams, Udeze etc. to take care of the pass rushing. No matter how bad the Vikings LB'ers and DB's were last season, there's no way they can be that bad again this season. Hence why I think the Vikes have upgraded on D. No matter how bad Smoot got burned for the Skins last season, he'll be better than anyone they put out beside Antonio Winifield last season. -
QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) He would be an offensive upgrade over Rownad. And with some of the stupid things Rowand has done in the outfield lateley he would be a defensive up grade as well. The only thing is if he is a $10,000,000 upgrade. I don't think so. The amount of money they have to pay Griffey this season isn't the problem, it's the deferred contract that requires him to be paid until 2024-2025.

It's round 3 in the Battle of the Sox, as Wade Miller (2-4, 5.01 ERA) takes on Orlando Hernandez (7-2, 4.98 ERA). This one will probably be a high scoring game considering how these 2 pitchers have done this season (especially El Duque at home), but let's go SOX!!!!

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Tony, Babs is unlikely at this point because he was REAL disappointing in Norfolk last year. He didnt show the ability to play consistently good D. But who knows when it gets to camp time. And DB, I dont think the Hawks would take a goalie in the first round. They have a decent stockpile with Anderson and Leighton and Crawford. Also in the system is Michael Brodeur but I think he's on his way out. If they don't decide to bring back Thibault which is still very possible, then maybe they will want a goalie in the draft, but they should take best player available regardless. Some people rate Crawford very highly however, and think he'll be better than Leighton or Anderson. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) The reason i picked the bears was because everybody in that division has ? marks. The Packers lost a ton in the off-season and nobody knows Walker's status, the Vikings lost their playmaker in Moss and they lost they lost their running back Smith for the year, and the Lions are the Lions. This division sucks. Vikings will have a much better D, and they've got Bennett and Moore at RB, so I don't think they'll miss Smith that much. Of course if Grossman goes down again the Bears have NO chance of making the playoffs. -
The more I think about the Dooling signing I like it. He's only 25, coming into his prime, and gets a chance to start. At only $10 mill over 3 to 4 years compared to Antonio Daniels who got $30 million over 5, I gotta feeling Dooling is gonna outproduce Daniels over the length of that contract all for $20 million less for 1 year less. And there were these little things on it;
