  1. QUOTE(SouthPaw @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) I'm not a huge Rangers fan or anything, but I would love to see Maggs go there. I think he would have a pretty good chance to win there. I find it hard to believe they won't sign anybody. Even if they miss out on Delgado, they may still try to offload Soriano to the Astros for some good young arms, and use the money they saved on an 1 year incentive laden deal for Ordonez.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) I don't know many guys who, if they had a 3.42 ERA over the course of 73+ innings, would be considered bad... And that was really a bad year for him, I think he had a dead arm for the most part even though he could hit 95 MPH or faster on the radar. Like I said before, I'd prefer to sign Iguchi and hang onto Marte.
  3. With the Mets looking like they'll hang onto Mike Cameron, or end up trading for Eric Byrnes, the only 3 teams I could possibly see still being interested in Maggs are the Orioles, Rangers and Tigers.
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) "Basketball is a wonderful sport......FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!!" What if it happened on a Hockey Rink?
  5. Ok there seem to be a lot of people around here worried about Iguchi and how he would be a flop here on the Southside. Let me point out some things in favor of him being a success here #1 - The team he plays for in Japan has a really good pitchers park. Ichiro and Kaz Matsui both played in hitters' parks, and I think Iguchi's last 2 seasons have been better than Kaz's. #2 - Hitting at the Cell. This will definitely help increase his stats and batting average if he doesn't swing for the fences at every AB. There are also other factors to consider such as he wouldn't be under as much pressure as Matsui was, and he should have a good comfort level and lifestyle here with Shingo around to help him settle in. I've said all along that signing Iguchi would be a risk, but a calculated risk at that, the Sox will have definitely scouted him enough to determine whether or not he can be the guy we need at second base.
  6. There's already a forum on this in the Sports Bar... so me thinks its time for some merging.
  7. The Aussie Embassy bombing was fairly big news down here, at least no Australians were killed unlike the bombing of the embassy in Jakarta a few months back.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) You interested in dealing Bobby Simmons? Yeah for the right offer. I'm going to make you a trade offer.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) I'll bet it was a commentary of exactly how well the Pistons have been playing lately... Uhhhh they're 5-1 so far this month. Personally I think it was a reflection on how Darko Milicic feels in the Motor City right about now, and how he feels about Larry "I don't play rookies" Brown.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) I'm definately interested. I offered Rowand 44 a deal for Tyson Chandler but I never heard back. Anything you are particulary looking at, I could probably use another real good scorer.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) IMO your logic is sound, but I wonder if the White Sox feel they can go for a pennant with two big question marks at 2B ... plus a talented guy at SS who's claiming the full time job for the 1st time. To be frank, I'm more excited about this Pablo Ozuna guy than Valdez, simply because he stole a bunch of bases last year. I don't know much about either player and the stats never tell the whole story. Neither appears to draw many walks. I may be wrong here, but didn't Ozzie talk about Wilson Valdez in September, saying he's got some things to work on? Something like, he might be a decent reserve soon but I'm not sure about him ever being a regular? Maybe I'm just reading into it. Point being ... they need a veteran somewhere in the mix. Appears to be their thinking, I happen to agree. But I would definitely like to see Valdez get a ton of playing time in spring. Let's see more of what this guy has. If somebody gets hurt, they'll probably need him. The skinny on Valdez is that he's a great fielder, which is extremely important in Ozzie's book on SS's, and has a good arm and range, so he's got no major problems in the field, plus he played some 2B in September IIRC. Now the main problem with Wilson is that he never takes a walk, although he has 2 in 1 game for the Sox or Knights, which was really quite freaky. So unless he can hit above .270 in the majors, his OBP isn't likely to get past or maybe even up to the .300 mark. He has hit .300 with Charlotte and Alberquque though.
  12. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) humina, humina, humina! If the new rave at soxtalk is hot women in your sig, I may have to get a Jennifer Aniston one like that when b-ball season is over. I think it's always been the rave quite frankly, except for when the Sox are winning.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) FWIW, that's one more good season then Iguchi has ever had in the major leagues And that was a few seasons ago. Aurilla could be a chance to actually hit at the Cell though, his last 2 stops at Safeco and PETCO aren't hitters parks at all. But we all know signing Iguchi is a risk, but if it pays off, which personally I think it will, it could help put this team over the top in the division. I still think we need to make some more moves in order to do that.
  14. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) I'd be very surprised if Det. dealt w/ the Sox. Though w/ Percival on board, Det. could do w/o Urbina. Some team will want Urbina, maybe the Marlins if they decide to hang onto Castillo and don't trade for Marte. Even though he's expensive for a setup man, Urbina will be effective for anyone.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) I jumped in and signed Stephen Jackson from the Pacers. I believe he comes back soon... Anyone think it was worth the risk? Hmmm actually I think Turkoglu is a wash with Jackson long - term, even though he'll be coming off the bench. Jermaine O'Neal has been taking up so much of the offense lately. Anybody up for some trades as well possibly?
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) Good luck to Esteban! I do have to say I am relieved to see no one gave him a multi year deal. I'm suprised he settled for this though. The Dodgers were rumored to have offered him $9 million over 2 years before they signed Derek Lowe.
  17. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) That's Mayor McCheese, not the Hamburglar in that photo -- DBAHO. My bad, the good mayor never decided to visit our shores.
  18. Does any1 else think Hamburgler looks evil in that picture.
  19. Contreras in July - 3-2 5.82 ERA August - 4-1 3.52 ERA September - 0-3 9.21 ERA Garland in July - 2-2 3.92 ERA August - 2-3 6.14 ERA September - 2-1 5.14 ERA The thing is with Contreras, you don't know whether he'll pitch 9 shutout innings, or give up 8 or 9 runs per outing. At least with Garland, he's more consistent, even if its 4 or 5 runs in 6 or 7 innings.
  20. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) who Contreras? Contreras had 3 very bad starts with the Sox, and Garland had 9. Of course Contreras only pitched with the Sox for a couple of months, unlike Garland who pitched for us for the whole season. And I'm sure Contreras' bad starts gave up more runs than Garland's, who only gave up more than 8 runs once all season long I think.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) So what? Who had more sucess in their first 4 complete seasons? Who showed more signs of being a great MLB pitcher? I could only imagine the Sox signing some stud pitcher out of pony ball, and every time he got lit up, people would be screaming "HE'S ONLY 12 YEARS OLD!!!! HOW MANY WINS DID ROGER CLEMENS HAVE WHEN HE WAS 12???" So are you blaming the Sox brass then for calling up Garland too early?
  22. It's definitely Jon, although he'll be pushed up if there's an injury to El Duque or if Contreras goes back to his early Yankee form.
  23. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) So how long do we get to use the excuse that he is young? I think it's still valid probably only for this season though. If Garland was pitching in the NL for a team like the Padres, his ERA would probably go down by 1, and he would be one of the better young pitchers in the game. You just have to give young pitching time, Jake Peavy and Oliver Perez showed that last season. A lot of teams in the MLB would like to have Garland as their 5th starter right about now.
