QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 05:53 AM) He also said it was a tough decision that he left in the hands of his agent, plus we didn't make a really big offer or anything. We'll need to offer quite a bit more this time around, but we should still try it IMO. Ditto with Carlos and Beckham. I wouldn't mind buying out Alexei's two arb years either. I think there's too many question marks on Alexei ATM for the Sox to do that. I'd like to at least see him hit around his career average / OPS for the 1st 2 months of the season in cold weather instead of hovering below the Mendoza line for starters. The improved plate discipline this season was a nice improvement though.

There's no way the Hawks can get Halak, and I certainly wouldn't give up Cam Barker to do so. Waiving Huet is an interesting thought though, although I certainly don't see it happening, not at the moment.

I was meant to travel to Baltimore for a weekend trip, but basically decided against it after starting a thread on here and being told it basically wasn't the world's greatest city (ended up seeing a St. Patty's day parade in Hoboken instead). Hope that doesn't put you off or anything.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 02:54 AM) Winter aint so bad. Especially when you move and your work commute changes from a half hour on major roads to 5 minutes on one backroad...... Oh god, I can tell you I ain't going to miss the North American winter for the next 5 months.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 07:48 AM) Dubrovnik, on the Croatian Coast Fruska Gora National Park, in Serbia Dubrovnik's actually been in the news a lot down here over the past year. Aussie girl got murdered there, and her body was dumped in the sea, they haven't found who did it to her, pretty sad story really.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 02:50 AM) Spain is definitely one of my favorites. My cousin just came back from Ibiza, had a lot of fun. I'm planning on spending most of the summer in Europe next year actually. Definitely want to do basically Spain, France, Italy, England and Germany if I can. Ibiza is outrageously expensive though, so dunno whether I'll do that, even though it's a fantastic party town.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) Your greatest hope is that one of the cheap goalies in the system emerges as decent, and you can dump Huet. With the big 3 due for raises in the off-season, I think this is pretty much the ideal scenario we can hope for, especially considering it'll be unlikely that we'll be able to dump Campbell's contract.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) I just don't see Liney bringing anything of value. Why not dump his salary for a hack (reclamatiion project) hopefully for less money. I really don't get why baseball teams overpay these middle reliever guys (Farnsworth, Dotel, Liney, etc.) Supply and demand. How many quality relievers become available in FA each season? Bullpens are such a crapshoot however. 2 years ago, it was pretty bad to say the least, so KW went out and got 2 guys who at the time were certainly above average reliever wise in Linebrink and Dotel, and at least on the former, it's certainly backfired because of the length of the deal.
-
KW's on the record that if we're adding anything to the offensive lineup this off-season, it's guys who can get on base. Jose Lopez had a .303 OBP this season with a 69/24 K/BB ratio. I will say that at least away from Safeco though, Lopez had a .883 OPS this season with a .348 OBP, so this is some sort of merit to think that his numbers at the Cell would be certainly in the upper echleon for a second baseman. I think we'll stick with a Getz / Nix platoon at 2B for at least another season. Getz showed enough potential plate discipline wise, to indicate that if he can improve his power numbers next season, he'll become a very solid second baseman for us. Danks would be a Cy Young contender potentially pitching at Safeco also, hence why that guy probably proposed the deal in the first place.

Be glad that Ron Turner ain't your head coach then, and you don't have a Jim Zorn type of fiasco in Chicago.
-
Norv Turner just ain't that good of a football coach. But they really miss Jamal Williams more than anything.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Oct 20, 2009 -> 06:43 AM) I won a trip to London this past week, I am planning on going for around 2 weeks and catching as much as possible without feeling like I am spending the majority of the time travelling. Anyone ever do this before? I have been to Ireland 3 times so I have some family there and in England that I plan on visiting for a small time. Some other places I have on my list are the Swiss Alps, Amsterdam, Ibiza, Italy amongst others- Anyone have any tips and/or suggestions of where to go in Europe? How much to bring Money wise if we are staying in Hostels? I actually found flights from Dublin to London that are as low as 5 Pounds each! Spain - Barcelona and Madrid. Have heard Barcelona is a very cool city to check out especially. Sevilla's a cool place too, also right on the beach apparently. I'd also check out some of the French countryside, and places such as Nice, Marseille, have heard they are pretty spectacular.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 02:07 AM) I hope I can make it back to Camelback this spring. It’s a spectacular facility. ^. And go check out a minorleague game if you can also. Got to see about 2 or 3 game at the same time this year which was pretty cool to say the least.

Same as Kyle. Hope you had a great night Gerry (and got suitably plastered).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 11:50 PM) Orton wouldn't have put a point on the board in this game last night if he had gotten the same protection and running game. Probably, but he's shown at least that in the right system and with good protection he can actually be pretty successful in the NFL, which I didn't think would be possible. As for the Saints vs. Vikings debate, it all comes down to the Saints D. If they can actually become a top 10 defense in the NFL, which they've been pretty close to so far, I actually think they just shade the Vikings. Because Brees is certainly a better QB than Favre, while Peterson obviously beats Bell, Bush and Thomas.
-
That's a damn good trade by Angelo, especially with Rod Marinelli as the defensive line coach.
-
So now that the U.S have qualified, how far do you see them going in South Africa next year? Can they get out of the group stages and into the 16?
-
Buff's certainly had a nice start to the season.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Serbia handled Romania 5-0 to win Group 7 and qualify for WC2010. It was amazing day. Now we play a meaningless match in Lithuania where some of our younger players will hopefully get some quality experience. Was it Serbia that Argentina beat in the last World Cup 5 or 6-0 or am I thinking of another European nation? I think you have a good chance of making the 16 at least depending on the draw though.

Thought this was quite amusing;

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) The Cleveland-Buffalo game may have been the worst of all time. And surely it'll be the end of Dick Jauron, it has to be. Wonder how TO is taking it all right now also.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Unfortunately for us, Pence will probably be one of the only Astros Houston will NOT look to unload; however, I guess I could see a situation in which they were forced to unload him in order to restock a bit of talent into their weak system. The problem is with the Astros, is that their owner basically demands that they be in playoff contention every season. Hence why they have the worst farm system in baseball. Now if he were to change focus in 2010, there's an opportunity to go nab Pence.

White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
DBAHO replied to kitekrazy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (qwerty @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I am not the biggest believer that a certain position requires a certain amount of production... but... You simply do not dh a hitter as poor as podsednik or any player of his ilk for any signifigant amount of plate appearances. I certainly wouldn't have Podsednik as my DH. I'd have him split time as a LF / 4th OF who gets about 75% AB's during the season. The biggest way this offense gets back to beng at least above average is for Rios to take a step forward, and for Quentin to get back to level close to his 2008 production. -
White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
DBAHO replied to kitekrazy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) He may accept a very minor discount, but let's face it, Podsednik is trying to take care of his family with this next contract. He's made a reasonable amount of money over his career, but he's never had a major payday, and being married to a former Playmate is probably not cheap. My guess is Scottie is going to follow the money here, as this his probably his last chance to make some real cash. He does that, he'll probably end up going back to what he did in Colorado. Hence why he should look at staying with the Sox, even if it's on a 1 year deal with an option, because it's the best chance for him to produce and if he does that, he'll get taken care of. He signs a 1 year deal somewhere else and doesn't hit well, he's back at looking at minor league contracts for 2011 IMO.
