  1. Q and now Swarzak have been so unlucky today. That's brutal.
  2. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) I'd have let Q try and get out of this. I trust him more than Swarzak. I'd have kept Q in too but Napoli is a *massive* platoon splits guy.
  3. Pretty cool gif of the best pitcher in baseball https://twitter.com/OldComiskey/status/881236747820171265
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) Yolmer Sanchez is probably our most patient hitter. That's something. I'd say Narvaez has the best plate discipline. The fact he can have 1/1 K/BB rates despite having 0 power is very impressive.
  5. Sort of feel like it flies under the radar how awful Melky is. People constantly rag on Frazier even though he's a **significantly** better player.
  6. UZR + DRS both had Anderson as a very good defender last year and I think it's safe to say he passed the eye test as well. This year he's taken a step back. Development isn't always linear.
  7. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) who wants to make Sanchez SS, Moncada the 2b and deal Timmy? Definitely not me.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Anderson made that play without any hassle but FFS dude start using good fundamentals. He catches the ball off his left foot way too often. I'm as high on TA as anybody defensively as he has everything you can't teach, including "go get the ball" instincts, but fundamentally he's a disaster this year. Agreed on all of this. It's a shame we can't combine TA's natural ability + athleticism with Yolmer's instincts and grace. If that were possible, well, defensively at least you'd have peak Alexei Ramirez. Hopefully he's able to reach something close to that over the next few years.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 01:44 AM) How is a 1.7 fWAR terrible? That's worth around $13-14 million...if you want to talk about terrible, you can line up all the Sox free agents signed since 2014-15 through the following season. Granted, he might never be nearly a 4 again, but a $31 million contract over three years is far less than the Sox are paying Cabrera and even Robertson for an everyday catcher. Even if he ends up at 1.2-1.5 fWAR this year, that's still not a bad value compared to the other huge overpays on the FA market the last couple of offseasons. fWAR is likely underrating Flowers too because it doesn't account for pitch framing. I don't have data for this year in front of me, but stat corner had him being +22.5 runs in '15 and then +13.3 runs in '16. Never at any point when Flowers was on the Sox was I clamoring for a long-term extension but it was obvious at the time they were making a mistake opting to sign Avila and/or Navarro over keeping him.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Because with the bullpen they have, that lead could be gone in a month. That might be true if they weren't playing in what's possibly the worst division I've ever seen.
  11. Dane Dunning pitching another gem. 5 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB.
  12. The Sox need to find a decent framer to pair up Rodon for the long-term.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) He's so clearly not. Bad hands, inaccurate arm and poor fundamentals/instincts It's difficult for me to believe what we saw last season was a fluke. I think in the long run he'll be fine, but he's definitely going through growing pains right now.
  14. A big league SS needs to make that play.
  15. Matt Davidson is a massive human being and Judge just towers over him.
  16. Anyone watching Hansen's start tonight? Looks like it's still full steam ahead on the hype train.
  17. QUOTE (zisk @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) typical KW draft pick.great athlete, looks fab in the uniform. Only problem is he's not a baseball player. He was productive his entire way up the ladder in the minors and was an above average SS last year despite only playing 99 games. Pretty impressive for someone that isn't a baseball player.

  20. The Sox have the run differential and baseruns of an average to slightly below average team. Even if they clean house and deal Quintana, Robertson, Kahnle, Frazier etc those departures will be offset by players like Rodon, Lopez, Moncada, etc being added to the major league roster. It's difficult for me to envision a scenario where this is a bottom ~3-5 roster in the majors even after all the trades have been completed. I've cheered for this team to lose every game so far this season. I hope they finish with the worst record in baseball. But I don't see any reason to believe they're actually bad enough to make a serious push for it. My biggest worry right now is that with promotions and a backlog of home games they'll play ~.475 baseball the rest of the way and play themselves out of a premium draft slot.
  21. No Moncada for Charlotte tonight.
  22. Lambert with a no hitter through 6... but also 5 walks and he's already at 86 pitches.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Nice job by Kahnle and Robertson Contending teams should give up all of their prospects to acquire them.
  24. Kahnle is one of the best relievers on the planet and I hope he's playing for a different team ~35 days from now.
  25. I'm a big fan of replay but also wouldn't mind if it couldn't be used in a 6 run game between 2 mediocre teams.
